Section 1 – Critical Incident

The nurse that I was observing had taken her lunch and I decided to take this time to go ahead and log in to the computer and look into some of the records of the patients. I hear someone saying help, help. I look around and see no one except TCU students that are sitting at computers picking out their patients for the next day. So I quickly get up and head in to the room. This is not one of my patients, but it is a patient that I had helped with earlier. I head in and introduce myself again while asking the women what I can do to help her. She appears to be about 70 years of age and she is crying. I don’t see anything that appears to be physically hurting her so I ask her what is wrong and she says she is in pain, saying the worst pain she has ever been in. She says it’s as much pain as she was in when she came in. She says her catheter hurts. I know she doesn’t have one I helped take it out earlier. I tell her that she doesn’t have a catheter in anymore and that I am going to go get her nurse for her. She says okay thank you. I go to get the nurse and he is now sitting at a computer and I tell him the situation. He says, “Yeah I just gave her some pain meds and anxiety meds it should work in like 15 min or so.” He was not acting as if he was going to go in there. I say okay I will go let her know. I head back in the room and her hands are in the air and she is crying and praying to god to take her away. She sees me and I tell her that she was just given some meds that will ease her pain they just haven’t had enough time to work yet. She really starts crying again and says how bad it hurts. I tell her I understand and that the meds within 30 minutes should bring relief and the pain should lessen then I notice her food tray. I ask her if she has eaten, she states,

Mouth Watering Jelly

...Mouth Watering Jelly One year, my husband and I had more watermelons than we knew what to do with. There were too many for us to eat without having to throw some out. We tried calling our friends and family, but no one wanted them, even though they were free. So, I found a recipe for watermelon jelly. I wrinkled up my nose with the thought of how that would taste, but I was out of ideas on what to do with all that watermelon, so I printed out the recipe and got started. First, you will need to gather all the ingredients and equipment that you will use throughout this process. You will need four cups of chopped watermelon (without the seeds or rind), three and a half cups of sugar, three tablespoons of lemon juice( fresh or store bought), one package of dry no sugar needed pectin, jar grabber (to pick up the hot jars), jar funnel, one five quart or larger pot, one two quart pot, one large spoon, one ladle, one water bath canner (huge pot with a lifting rack to sanitize the jars of watermelon jelly after filling), eight 8 ounce jelly jars with lids and bands, one food processor or blender, one small bowl. I went out to the garden to pick out a nice ripe watermelon. If you don’t have a garden of your own, you can find a watermelon at your local farmers market or grocery store. Wash the outside of your watermelon with cold water. Before you cut your watermelon in half, fill the water bath canner up about three fourths of the way full with water and put it on the stove...
