Doctors should provide free care In this essay I will show that doctors should provide free care to their patients some time during their career. I will argue that doctors provide a public service to the greater benefit of their community during time of natural disasters. Secondly I will show that most doctors already do provide free care to their patients through church or other charity. Lastly I will argue that doctors have a moral obligation to provide a service and give back to their community. During natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina and other epic events many doctors and other medical professionals will provide their skills and labor for free to help out their fellow countrymen in time of need and despair. Many doctors and other medical personal also serve in the military for a period, providing care at a lower pay than they otherwise could have earned as a civilian. During normal times, most doctors I meet do provide free care in their community. I see this happen in church related activities and happenings. One example is vaccinations against the flu or at local homeless shelters etc. Many doctors work several days per month for free at their local church hospital where they volunteer and help out. Besides volunteering at the local church I also believe that certain professions come with a moral obligation to give back to the community in which he lives. Dentists, doctors, teachers and police officers are all providing a unique contribution to our society. A doctor makes a lot of money and has a unique skill which can benefit large parts of his local community. So providing care to the poor and elderly who can’t afford it is morally correct and benefits the community at large maintaining stability. In this essay I have shown that doctors should provide free care sometime during their career. I also show that many already do via their local church,

...help health care cost? The main cause for the healthcare reform bill is the rising cost of health insurance for the American citizens. From the 1960s to the 1980s healthcare spending went from $28 billion to $255 billion. By the beginning of 2000, healthcare spending increased to $1.4 trillion. The United States economy has slowly declined due to several factors, the cost of health care is one. Presidents, state representatives, hospital and insurance executives, and economists have tried to attack this huge deficit. There are several things that can be done in order to reduce rapidly increasing health care spending. Some actions that could benefit the United States economy is the stop of wasteful spending, create a team to control fraud, and give incentives to health care providers. Wasteful spending is one of the number one causes in health care cost. For years private insurers have relied on the police to focus on fraudulent people. Creating a team to focus of wasteful spending and fraud is a start in the right direction. There is wasteful spending within the hospitals, clinics and doctors’ offices. Medical fraud is also a problem that the team can focus on. Medical fraud can be fake claims, or payment schemes from doctors. Insurance executives should also be held accountable for their wasteful spending and unnecessary travelling. The money that is saved from wasteful spending can be given to the team for any resources that they need. Under the new health care system, companies...

Single Payer Health Care System

...Single Payer Health Care System Purpose – The focus of this research is to identify, analyze and evaluate a type of health care system called Single Payer Health Care System by finding answers to the following questions. Health care is one of the basic necessities that a government should provide to its citizens. Single Payer Health Care systems are catered towards the well-being of its citizens that regard people’s health as their main priority. What is a single-payer health care system? Single-payer national health insurance, also known as “Medicare for all,” is a system in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health care financing, but the delivery of care remains largely in private hands. Under a single-payer system, all residents of a country would be covered for all medically necessary services, including doctor, hospital, preventive, long-term care, mental health, reproductive health care, dental, vision, prescription drug and medical supply costs. The program would have a single public system of administration, eliminating the present highly expensive multiple, fragmented, and duplicative system operated by different government agencies and private hospitals. The whole operation would be paid by a combination of present Medicare and Medicaid expenditures, existing state and local expenditures for health services, mandated employer contributions, and additional tax revenues equal to the amounts now spent by citizens out of pocket, savings obtained...

Health Care

...Health care is one of the most important insurances in the world today. Health care is extremely important for everyone because it does more than just treat or take care of an individual. It provides an opportunity for doctors and physicians to prevent and capture diseases before they mature and take effect. Every nation around the world should have some type of medical or health care for the individuals in their country. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many countries. There are a great deal of people suffering across the world from multiple types of diseases and illnesses. There are tens of thousands of people that die every day due to unfortunate living conditions or infections. Some of the major health conditions and categories that are used to record the number of deaths around the world include infant mortality, surgical disease, measles, respiratory diseases, diarrheal diseases, HIV, malaria, nutrition deficiency, and chronic disease. The number of infants that died across the world in 2005 was around 56 million. Of the 56 million children that died, 10 million were under the age of 5 and 99% of them lived in a low income country. This is equivalent to 30,000 children dying a day. Health care could not only treat the infants who are dying, but it could prevent most of them from dying at such an early age. Another health condition that continues to be a problem is the fact that diseases can be acquired after a surgical procedure. Doctors and surgeons...

Universal Health Care

... Abstract In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that has become a popular topic recently. The difference between the two sides is a difference in values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper I will argue why the Government should put in place The Universal Healthcare Systems. Health care reform to provide universal coverage was first proposed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" in 1938, then again by President Harry S. Truman's "Fair Deal" in 1945, by President Richard Nixon in 1971, and more recently by President Bill Clinton's administration in 1993 and during the second presidential debate on Oct 7, 2008, US President Barack Obama, then presidential candidate, said health care should be a “right for every American.” Each attempt faced staunch opposition from varying interest groups and did not result in the passage of universal health coverage legislation. www.healthcare.procon.org In my research it states, it’s no secret that health care costs are spiraling out of control in this country. On average, we now spend more per person on health care than both food and housing. Insurance premiums are multiplying much faster...

Health Insurance Persuasive Essay

...Beep. Beep. Beep. The nurses’ chattering sounds fill the hallway outside the door, while patiently waiting for the doctor to make their early morning rounds. Lying in the cold hospital room after receiving the devastating news. Cancer. Hearing those horrible words, then worrying about how to afford the hospital stay to begin with. Now all the follow-up doctor appointments and treatments, without a clue how to make the financial obligations. This is something thousands of people without medical coverage face on a daily basis. Should I go to the doctor? Should I call the ambulance? How will I pay for any extra bills? Sadly many Americans must make a horrible costly choice, to put food on the table or pay for medicines and doctor bills....

Cultural Diversity

...HEREDITARY Each person is a unique individual. At the time of conception the hereditary traits are inherited from the mother and father to form a unique combination of traits. Since thousands of traits are involved, the possible combination are limitless. Therefore, each person, from the time of conception, is endowed with a one-and-only combination of traits that will affect that individual throughout life. Some traits are expressed, meaning the individual will definitely manifest that trait. Other traits are unexpressed but predispose that individaul to manifest the trait under certain conditions For example, a person may have the gene for a specific hereditary disease but will develop the disease only if the life situation includes certain conditions. A person who has the gene for a disease but does not develop symptoms is a carrier; that gene can be passed on to the children, who may manifest the disease. A genetic disorder is one that results from individual’s genetic makeup. It may be apparent at birth, may appear as a developmental disorder, or may appear later in life as a disease or health problem. The study of hereditary has expanded rapidly and is making significant contribution to medicine and in the medical office. Sociology

...Assignment title: Sociological Approaches The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to gain an understanding of the different sociological approaches and how they can be used to study health and social care. Functionalist perspective The functionalist perspective analyse all aspects of institutions (jobs, education, families) within a society and discusses how they contribute to society as a whole in terms of having stability. Functionalists believe that in a society, social consensus is held together by all members of a society agreeing upon worldly matters. Functionalists believe in the central value system, the way in which agreement in society works is by socialising within institutions such as family, education, and the mass media. For example, the social norms of a family would be to: * Reproduce * Care for children, * Economic function * Providing emotional security They believe that society flows well; as well as for this to happen, functionalists express that working as one to achieve what is seen as “best” for society as a whole, is what keeps a society stable. • Assignment 1: Applications of Epidemiology – a Case Study

...Public Health Preparedness Mary Anderson Strayer University Health Policy and Law Basics Professor Dorothy Moore December 15, 2013 Abstract Healthcare is one of the top social and economic problems in America today. The United States is considered by most to be the greatest country to ever grace the face of the planet. It has the largest military, the largest economy, freedom of speech and religion, and one of the first successful democracies and of course, the American dream. Yet, what is the one thing that most people seem to forget? That the United States of America, the most dominant force in the world, is also the only westernized industrial nation without a Universal Healthcare system(Capretta, Moffit, 2012). Public Health Preparedness Examine the existing procedures related to at least four of the ten essential public health services. Views of the Health Care System

...Views of the Health Care System According to the text, U.S. health care spending was $2.1 trillion in 2006, a huge amount of money to be spending in health care every year in the United States. The video “Sick around the World” shows how the health care system works in different countries. In order to compare the health care system in the United States, I would like to use Japan’s health care system as an example. It manages to provide some form of universal health coverage to its populations. American health care system is with high costs, multiple gatekeepers and fails to provide insurance for much of the population. Japan’s health care system, Patients are free to select physicians or facilities of their choice and cannot be denied coverage. The clinics and hospitals in Japan may not be as spacious and well buffed as those in American suburbs. But the actual consumers of care show rates of satisfaction that should make American providers blush. Doctors, hospitals, and insurers are for the most part private in Japan. The services are provided either through regional to national public hospitals, or through private hospitals to clinics, and patients have universal access to any facility. There is no combat between insurers and insured. And it’s with no fear on the part of doctors and hospitals that they won’t be paid. The patient is accepting responsibility for 30% of these costs while the government pays the remaining 70%. This system has dramatically lower administrative...

The Public Needs to Know

...The Public Needs To Know Christina D. Cromwell Professor Wayne Marshall English 115-English Composition January 31, 2015 People in the community, without typical means, should have a place to go for medical treatment just like everyone else. Unemployment and no insurance should not be what keeps people from getting the proper medical treatment. The new free clinic opening in our community will be available for adults and children who do not have traditional means of obtaining medical treatment. There will be several doctors on site with a wide range of specialties. Many have practices focusing on certain types of medical problems and some who can assist with any general issues. In some cases, patients may have to visit doctors off site. Because we are aware that some patients may not have the means to get to other areas, we will provide a shuttle service on preassigned days for this very reason. Doctors are volunteering their knowledge as well as their time to raise awareness and help those in the community in which some of them grew up in. We are aware that examination and knowledge is but a portion of what is needed. For this reason, we have partnered with some local pharmacies who will provide medication at a substantial discount and even free of charge in some cases. Patients will be informed of everything every step of the way and be given the same assistance as if they were paying customers. Each new patient will complete a short questionnaire informing...

Health Care

...Health Care Through the decades there have been many public policy topics in our society that have a very large impact on the county as whole. They are reasons why American have either prospered and have been set back into recessions. Health is one of the most talked about public policy topics. Health care is topic that affects local and state governments for many reasons. First of all, health care is insurance for people that are injured or ill. Each county has their own type of health care. There are many different types of health care organizations that are offered to people all over the world. Some of these organizations include: the health maintenance group, provider group, and a proposal that combines aspects from both the health maintenance group and the provider group. The most important type of health care insurance is a universal health plan. Universal health care is what will eventually save Americans a large amount of money and it will also guarantee that every American is insured. The number of uninsured citizens has grown to be above 40 million people. Health care is becoming unaffordable and we can eliminate wasteful inadequacies. A centralized national database can be established to make life easier for doctors, and medical professionals will only have to worry about the patience and not who’s paying for the medication for people. There are many people today who do not like the idea of universal health care and refuse to get it. America is known for having...
