Documenting Sources The main topic of my essay is Beautiful Woman-A Organization Creating Powerful Women. The subtopics chosen to support this topic is: Education, Self Esteem and Workshops. These topics will best describe the point of the main topic chosen for women. As woman working to become the overall "Beautiful Woman, I have learned the major sacrifices it takes to be that soulful and realistic person. Often time's women tend to loose themselves in the shuffle of life and they forget about the importance of being a woman. Sure we were placed here to be the nurtures to our families, friends and spouse but aside from all of that we have to nurture [us] first (which can sometimes be complicated when you become use to pleasing others). I plan to show in this essay why it is important that every woman understands her position as a woman and how it is important for us to be as empowered as possible.

In 1833; Oblerin College was founded. It was the nations first university to accept women and black students. The next important event was the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. This convention added fuel to the flame of education and suffrage. The Seneca Falls Declaration has been called “the single most important document of the nineteenth-century American woman’s movement”. At the convention a declaration concerning women’s rights was adopted modeling the Declaration of Independence. Appearing in addition to issues of suffrage were issues of education and employment. The Declaration of Sentiments states: He has monopolized nearly all the profitable employments, and from those she is permitted to follow, she receives but a scanty remuneration. He closes against her all the avenues to wealth and distinction, which he considers most honorable to himself. As a teacher of theology,

Documenting Source

...Documenting Sources Documenting means showing where you got source information that's not your own. Remember, a research paper blends your ideas with ideas and information from other sources. Documentation shows the reader what ideas are yours and what information and ideas you've taken from a source to support your point of view. Why Document? * By correctly documenting, you establish your credibility as a writer and researcher. You're letting your reader know that you've consulted experts whose ideas and information back up your own thoughts and ideas. Consequently, you make your viewpoint or argument more believable. * When you don't document correctly, your academic integrity can be called into question, because it may seem as though you're passing off others' ideas as your own. * If you don't document, you could inadvertently plagiarize, which is grounds for dismissal from college. Academic Integrity Academic integrity involves not only acknowledging your sources, but also creating your own ideas. Academic integrity, explained in this way, sounds relatively simple. But the particular applications are a bit more tricky. The most common academic integrity problems that most students encounter are: 1. relying too heavily on others' information in a research paper 2. relying too heavily on others' words in a paraphrase or summary 3. citing and documenting sources incorrectly 4. relying too heavily on help from other sources The most egregious...

Documenting Sources

...significant phrase intact from a source, you must use quotations marks and reference the source. Sentences and phrases must have quotation marks and citation in order to escape an accusation of “excessive use of undocumented sources.” In 200-level courses or lower, these errors are usually the result of not knowing yet how to properly document sources. However, if large portions of an original source are used without documentation, instructors tend to assume that the plagiarism was intentional rather than accidental. "Word Switch Plagiarism" If you take a sentence from a source and change around a few words, it is still plagiarism. This is commonly done by students intending to commit plagiarism but hoping that using synonyms and switched word order will prevent the plagiarism checking program from identifying the original sources. Because it is “overt” and not an accident, its detection is grounds for punishments ranging from failure of the assignment or course up to the possibility of being expelled from the university, regardless of the course level. How to Avoid Committing Plagiarism 1. Any Information taken from another source (even from the textbook) must have an in-text citation which points to the full bibliographical information for that source on the References page at the end of the essay. 2. Quoting should be kept to a minimum. One or two sentences (or even just a couple of words) can be quoted directly from a source only when that information in a...

...Documenting Sources: I have chosen the three websites below as possible sources to help support my chosen topic as well as the subtopics of my expository essay: http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php http://dba-oracle.com/dress_code_tattoos.htm http://www.isus.edu/ia/journals/ideology/conter as required by APA guidelines, I as still exploring and cross referencing the reliability of these websites to even be used as cit-able sources by checking the credibility of the author and or organization, affiliations that may indicate bias, and if the website offers the opportunities for user feedback and or updates. I discovered all three websites by using the Google search engine in an attempt to corroborate my topic through the World Wide Web. Two of the Three were scholarly articles; one by Florida State University and the other by the Eastern Illinois University; both had multiple citing for correlation between ethnicity, age, sex, and tattoos. The third is a website sponsored by a consulting firm called Burleson consulting whose main goal is to help potential employees advance in the work place despite their body modifications. All three help build the foundation of my investigation into why the body modification industry seems to be booming when other businesses are failing in the present economy, however, they don’t really substantiate my query as to a concrete reason. For the answer to that I know that I will have to do some exploring of my own at my job and...

...Annotated Bibliography Drugs in Sport Calum Thouless Legend 2154980 (Kumar Neeraj, 2011) Spelling - Red Grammar - Green Sentence construction - Yellow Incorrect reference - Blue In this article Kumar Neeraj, Paul Maman and Sandhu J.S perform a survey to increase their knowledge and insight as to why the supporting factors of psychological and social could potentially lead players towards using drug abuse substances. The authors gained primary data by conducting surveys which 303 players participated in, with the questions consisting of performance enhancing attitudes, perfectionism and motivation among other factors. Their research focuses on reviewing the player’s answers to their surveys and their opinions on the different factors which could lead to drug abuse. This article is helpful to me as it indulges into the players own personal opinions on what factors lead to drug abuse in sports and there are multiple surveys in which these opinions are portrayed. The main limitation of the article is that the 303 participants were all in the age group of 18 to 35 which limits the opinions to older/former players or athletes. The authors of this article mention how much of this research is restricted to an individual’s perception rather than a whole team’s perception and that more in depth research needs to be conducted in order for this entire subject to be concluded. (Nadra E. Lisha, 2010) In this article the authors review data of 34 peer-reviewed quantitative...

Light Brigade

...Vima How far do sources 1, 2 and 3 agree with the view that the charge of the light brigade was a disaster? On one hand there is a substantial agreement with the sources regarding the charge of the light brigade and that it was complete disaster. For example in source 1 it depicts the theme of injury and death, the newspaper referred to the majority of the soldiers as “wounded men” and when they were charging the Russian soldiers were “cutting them down” this shows that the battle of the light brigade was a disaster as there were many wounded men and vast casualties at such a short period of time. The theme of death and injury is further echoed by source 2 where it gives a more graphic representation of the theme of injury and death, The source says to back up this theme “A corporal who rode on the right was struck by a shot or shell full in the face, completely smashing it, his blood and brains bespattering us” this further backs up the theme of death and injury as the solider gives a very brutal and horrific example of death that occurred on the battlefield. Therefore this further supports source 1 that it was a disaster as there was very violent and horrific deaths. Also this was probably not the only example of horrific death on the battle field as cannonballs were flying at them from all sides. Nevertheless it is key to note that source 2 is a very credible source to use to back up this point. This is because by looking at the provenance of the source it was written by...

Dram Shop Law

...I think the Dram shop laws is good when it comes to hitting the source to stop the crime but it also affects businesses and our economy, especially when it come to tax money. The real question is can we suffer as a society and economically to deter and prevent alcohol related crime and death. In my opinion, this theory/law will not work due to the fact that alcohol is not only widely used on a daily basis, but also because it will be extremely challenging and expensive to enforce the law. On top of all that, there will be a black market just for alcohol and/or people will start manufacturing their own and selling it at their own expense, just how marijuana is produced and sold illegally. If anything, the laws should be strict and less forgiving. We should not focus on the bars and social events that disrepute alcohol but focus more on what happens out on the streets and what or how we can do to prevent crimes and drinking and driving on a daily basis. If this problem became more advertised and spoken about, i feel like it would be less of a problem and we would have more of an solution on our hands. Its widely known and talked about but not taken seriously. If we just change the way we present it and show the people how seriously this is and how much of an impact it has on not only families but also society as a whole. On the other hand, restricting the sales of alcohol and pointing fingers at the source will not stop the majority of the crimes from happening, but will...

...The sources I chose or my articles are reliable, relevant sources for my Personal Responsibility Essay. Managed Healthcare Executive for example is a reliable source; they are members of the Modern Medicine Network. This network consists of Editorial Advisory Board and Professional Advisory Council members. There is no author bias; the information published is actual facts, driven by statistics and research. Below is the section I used from this article for my essay. “Consumers' personal choices and behaviors are significant determinants of their overall health, and those who fail to take personal responsibility for their health can cost the system billions of dollars each year. For example, a 2010 study from the UnitedHealth Center for Reform and Modernization found that more than 50% of Americans could have diabetes or pre-diabetes by 2020, carrying a cost of $3.35 trillion over the next decade. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, smokers cost the community more than $193 billion annually in lost productivity and healthcare costs ( Managed Healthcare Executive" (2013).” I was relevant to my essay; I want to show the reader the cost to all insurers because of people who refused to take care of their health. This information only proved the point I was trying to make so I feel that it strengthen my essay. The other source used for my essay is from a Journal called HEALTH EDUCATION JOURNAL. Why Wikipedia Is Not a Valid Source

...Wikipedia has been the subject of considerable debate for some time now. Several people think the site is not quotable, while others argue that it is. Many teachers do not accept Wikipedia pages as a source of information because any one can add or remove information from such pages. Also, this online encyclopedia does not always cite sources for its articles. Plus it is difficult to find the credentials of the authors. A huge part of credibility is attributed to a sources currency, indicating how recent a certain source has been updated. Wikipedia’s credibility lies within its immediate opportunity to alter, and update a specific topic. One may argue the fact that almost anyone can be an editor of this reference site, which allows opportunity to diminish the validity of certain information. However, once an editor posts information on a topic, the information is examined and removed or edited. With thousands of pages being edited daily, how is it possible for all of them to get reviewed? It’s not; much incorrect material will stay on the pages. Many other pages could contain out dated facts or information that has been posted by someone who is not an expert in the field, or by someone who wishes to provide misinformation. Wikipedia does not always have cited sources, let alone sources to rely upon. There are several articles with...
