In Dodson v. Shrader, which took place in 1992, the plaintiff, Joseph Dodson, who at the time was sixteen years of age, purchased a pick-up truck from the defendant, Shrader. Nine months after Dodson purchased the truck; it began developing a mechanical problem that was eventually diagnosed as an internal problem with the engine. Dodson did not have the money to fix the problem so he continued to drive the truck until it eventually “blew up” a month later. After the truck “blew up”, Joseph Dodson parked the truck at his parent’s house and contacted the defendant requesting a refund, but was refused.
