Definition Essay On Mainstream American Slang Words

...As an individual who regularly accesses the internet and social media, I can say that I am aware of the mainstream American slang terms used everyday. However, there are still some particular words that I have never heard of before. The term bleeding dry refers to taking away all the money from an individual. It would be used as, “The new computer software company taking my business and bleeding me dry!”. The final term I have never heard of before is dookie salad, meaning someone is unsatisfied with a certain situation. An individual can say, “Daniel already left. Dookie salad!”. The word york refers to the action of vomiting. Someone can use it as, “Phil had too much to drink, he yorked all over himself!”. Although I now know the definitions of these words, I don’t believe I will use them....

...still talk about him like he's still here, you know. I can't figure it out. It doesn't make any sense…” he was surprised that he was gone, Cobain’s family, friends and fans felt the same way. This incident changed the way that people looked at the band. They now felt sorry for them because they had lost a member and they listened to their music in order to remember Kurt Cobain. In the other hand, Green day is a punk-rock band that was formed by Billie Joe Armstrong (lead vocalist and guitarist), Mike Dirnt (bassist) and John Kiffmeyer (drummer) in California, one year before Nirvana, in the year 1986. Their first album 39/Smooth (1990) did not have the same success as their other albums. The band's most successful album, their third album, Dookie (1994) sold 20 million copies worldwide. This album contained songs that people really enjoyed and connected with. The songs would talk about having paranoia, about drugs, trying to stay alive, etc. Throughout the years, members of the band have been replaced and there are many reasons of why they were replaced. The band is still making music up to this day. Their recent album is called Revolution Radio (2016). They have influenced their fans in a positive way through their songs up to this day. ...

Milk Milk Lemonade Rhetorical Analysis

...video. Relating fudge specifically to poop makes one never want to touch it again in their life. A great visual of this is about halfway through the video, Amy Schumer seems to pick up a piece of fudge from the ground, while dancers are twerking behind her and began to eat it. After taking in the song for about a minute the visual of that can make one cringe. Another great use of the conventions is the relationship between the lyrics and the scenes. Towards the end of the video they display multiple visuals of bouncing butts while repeating phrases such as, "this is where my poop comes out" and "this is what you think is hot." They also go even further to disgust you by giving butts more nicknames like, "turd cutter," "loaf pincher," and "dookie maker." These lyrics lead us to believe that they are mocking those who find butts attractive because they should seem repulsive as we poop from them. Additionally, the music video declares that a woman's body is the most important thing about her through its conventions of lyrics, costume, and dancers. In the video, most of the costumes are very revealing and fairly tight. On top of that, all of the women in the video have similar body types: they have the slim waist along with big butts and breasts. This leads you to believe that this is what society's idea of a "perfect" body is and that all women should look like this. On top of that instead of revealing the vocalist's face first, they give you a camera pan of her body and afterward...

...1984[edit] Ten-year-old Tre Styles (Desi Arnez Hines II) lives with his single mother Reva Devereaux (Angela Bassett) in Inglewood, California. After Tre gets involved in a fight at school, his teacher calls Reva and informs her that although Tre is rather intelligent, he is immature, aggressive, and lacks respect for classmates and adults alike. Frightened about the future of her child, Reva sends him to live in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South Central with his 27-year-old father, Furious Styles (Laurence Fishburne), from whom she hopes Tre will learn valuable life lessons. On the night of Tre's arrival, he hears his father shooting at a burglar who tried to rob the house. LAPD officers arrive more than an hour later, and eventually decide the crime is unimportant because nothing was taken and the burglar escaped completely unharmed. The police, particularly the African American officer, treat Furious with disrespect and contempt. The following day, Tre reunites with childhood friends Darrin "Doughboy" Baker, Doughboy's maternal half-brother Ricky, and Chris, their mutual friend. While Ricky is naïve and trusting, Doughboy is aggressive and street-smart. The next day, Chris takes the group into another neighborhood to view the decaying corpse of a murdered gang member. A Crip gang member tricks Ricky into giving up his football, prompting Doughboy to confront him to get it back. Doughboy is beaten up, but the ball is returned to him by another Crip member.
