When it came to a female weighing 87 pounds (39.545455 kgs), the patient received over triple the amount prescribed to her. She was taking 3,837 milligrams per day, when she should have only been taking roughly 790.90 milligrams per day. There were three other discrepancies that I found within the information. A male weighing 63 pounds (28.636364 kgs) received 2,778 milligrams per day when he should have received around 575.72 milligrams. Another male weighing in at 32 pounds (14.545455 kgs) received 1,410 milligrams a day, when he should have received roughly 209.909 milligrams. Lastly, a female weighing in at 47 pounds (21.363636 kgs) was taking 2,073 milligrams, when she should have only received about 427.272 milligrams. My findings were that the patients that were under 100 pounds were getting the incorrect dosage. With some of the patients receiving the incorrect dosage, many find it to be the hospitals fault in most instances. I think that part of it was the hospitals fault for not double checking the correct dosages for their patients, but I also think the manufacturers could have also played a role in the incorrect dosages. Parents purchase one for kids for their infants and then give them the “proper” dosage which is actually a lot for a newborn. This causes health risks such as liver damage, coma and death. This is not properly labeled on the container of medicine because Johnson and Johnson fear that proper labeling will drive down costs and that they will lose money in the long run. Over 100 law suits have been filed against Johnson and Johnson because of their Tylenol medicine poisoning. For Johnson and Johnson would rather pay settlements than have to lose profits from having a proper labeling system. Therefore consumers do not know the risks involved with the medicine that they are taking and that hurts the consumers.
