Dota Addiction

...My case is slightly the same with the guy in the mentioned link, though I got over my Dota's addiction. Here are some backgrounds. I grew up in rural Laos to poor parents. When I was little, my father was drinking every single day that my mother or his cousins must went out to find him and brought him home. If he had made himself home, there would have been a fight/argument between my mother and him. When I was 10, my father got over his drinking problems, I have a little sister, and my family were in good term financially. However, one day my mother was scammed by her friends. That was a lot of money by Laotian's standard. One year later, I was 14, my mother got a stroke and was subconscious for more than a week. Despite all the odds, she got over it and recovered in 3 years. I was in high school doing really well. Many of my friends were addicted to games but I was not. Fast forward a couple of years, I was in an OK university (by Laotian's standard). I was on top. Then my mother got a second stroke, this time she was subconscious for 2 months. Where I visited her, she was terribly thin. I touched her arm hopelessly. I remembered the piteous look of a nurse. She got over it this time too. To this day, she can't speak and can’t control half of her body but her mental condition is extremely good. She remembers everything and she can write using her left...

Student's Addiction to Dota

...Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is an action real-time strategy mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The objective of the scenario is for each team to destroy the opponents' Ancients, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters. As in role-playing games, players level up their heroes and use gold to buy equipment during the mission. The scenario was developed with the "World Editor" of Reign of Chaos, and was updated upon the release of its expansion, The Frozen Throne. There have been many variations of the original concept; the most popular being DotA Allstars, which eventually was simplified to DotA with the release of version 6.68. ...EFFECTS OF DOTA Playing this game also triggers the player to lose his/her temper and values. Why? It simple because of the different languages used during the game or what we called “Trash talks”. Trash talks such as foul languages can really lose their temper and values. As a result, the both sides will fight against each other. Gamble is also present in the game, the highest bet is 5,000 pesos and the lowest is 300 pesos. Again, money for them is not that important anymore. Many players says that “Dota is the best past time ever,” so it’s Ok for them to waste their money. Due to playing, eating is irrelevant; the satisfaction they get form playing is the same as the satisfaction they get from eating. As a result, the body’s immune systems are getting weaker and now expose the different viruses and diseases. All in all, Dota really affects the life style of the youth who are in to this game, although it has one good benefit, but it corrupts the mind and the way the youth think. ...Smoking  Definition Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Casual smoking is the act of smoking only occasionally, usually in a social situation or to relieve stress. A smoking habit is a physical addiction to tobacco products. Many health experts now regard habitual smoking as a psychological addiction, too, and one with serious health consequences. Smoking risks Smoking is recognized as the leading preventable cause of death, causing or contributing to the deaths of approximately 430,700 Americans each year. Anyone with a smoking habit has an increased chance of lung, cervical, and other types of cancer; respiratory diseases such as emphysema, asthma, and chronic bronchitis; and cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke, and atherosclerosis (narrowing and hardening of the arteries). The risk of stroke is especially high in women who take birth control pills. Smoking can damage fertility, making it harder to conceive, and it can interfere with the growth of the fetus during pregnancy. It accounts for an estimated 14% of premature births and 10% of infant deaths. There is some evidence that smoking may cause impotence in some men. Because smoking affects so many of the body's systems, smokers often have vitamin deficiencies and suffer oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that steal electrons from other molecules, turning the other molecules into free...
