Despite the many roles that African Americans had taken on during World War II, upon their return, they were still discriminated against. They were discriminated against by the same people that they had risked their lives to protect. So, on February 7, 1942, the Double V campaign was launch. The Double V Campaign was a movement organized and initiated by the Pittsburgh Courier. The Pittsburgh Courier was an African American owned, a weekly newspaper. “The campaign pushed for full citizenship rights for African-Americans who were risking their lives for their country overseas.” It also used its platform to unite African Americans and spread awareness about various forms of injustice, segregation, and discrimination.
