Gage Lucas Professor Tanya Torres English 306 17 November 2011 Consolidation: An Attempt to Save Money, or an Effort to Reduce Student Learning The proposals by the state to consolidate several public schools on O’ahu has created no small amount of concern by parents, students, and teachers. This is probably due to the recent attempts by the state to close small public elementary schools like Pu’uhale and Likelike Elementary. Despite the state’s numerous attempts to cut short the number of school days in a week (furlough days), the state legislation has finally decided to cut short the number of schools on the island (consolidation). Their goal - which is really a short term goal - is one that involves the reduction of spending, which will save the state approximately one million dollars a year. While this may seem reasonable and understandable, the viewpoint that the state has totally dismissed is the viewpoint of enhancing these small schools and providing incentives for those schools that perform well in their test scores and achieve exemplary academic growth. There are multiple reasons for why the state should not consolidate these small schools, and the four arenas this proposal will examine to support it consists of a political reason, an economic reason, a social reason, and a cultural reason. And in examining these reasons in light of the argument to not consolidate public schools in Hawaii, people - especially parents - will be able to defend these small schools and provide solid evidence for why their child’s school should not be shut down. It is easy for one to promote consolidation without doing research on school performance and academic achievement. Thus, this research proposal will examine this situation of

Lease Exposure Draft

...Exposure Draft on Leases The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) published comment a revised Exposure Draft on Leases on May 16th, 2013 and closed on September 13th, 2013. Based on this exposure, two boards claimed that the existing financial reporting of leasing activities fails to meet the needs of users of financial statements. While the existing accounting principles require to record the leased assets and liabilities on the lessee’s financial statements under capital/finance lease but not under operational leases, the new approach would require a lessee to recognize assets and liabilities for all leases with a maximum possible term (including any option to extend) of more than 12 months. This new approach also changes lessor accounting that it more accurately reflect the leasing activities of different lessors. The boards received 786 comment letters in response to the 2010 Exposure Draft from entities and organizations from many industries, including nonpublic entities. Some respondents supported the effects of the proposed model, some respondents disagreed with the lessor accounting proposals. The reasons are that it was not consistent with the single accounting model proposed for lessees; it did not support the performance obligation approach; and the existing lessor accounting requirements still work well in practice. Respondents also concerned with the costs and complexity of the proposals and the......

The Draft

... Since the primary intent of Congressman Rangel, Hartmann and others in reinstating or supporting the draft is antiwar, portraying this legislation as a national service program offering a choice of a nonmilitary alternative -conscription into the civil service - is disingenuous and a distraction from its true purpose and goal. What possible relevancy does forced service in the Peace Corps, for example, have to ending unnecessary war and American apathy? Further, should Congressman Rangel's Bills become law, as endless and futile wars for profit, greed and power continue and escalate, is it realistic to assume that draftees will choose military service in adequate numbers to restore the ranks of injured and killed combatants? Or, as is more likely, wouldn't "national security" considerations require an abrogation of choice and individuals to be conscripted into the military regardless of their preference? In reality, then, these bills are not about creating jobs and rebuilding this nation's infrastructure. Nor is their purpose to provide American youth with much needed discipline, structure, responsibility and an opportunity to recommit to their country. Nor will they accomplish these goals should they be enacted. Though misleadingly titled a National Service Bill, what is being proposed here is clear and simply nothing other than the reinstatement of a military draft. The Moral and Legal Argument against Conscription While I share Congressman Rangel's and Thom Hartmann's...

Identify the correct target market 2.1. The current target market is simply too young to fully grasp the meaning of the comic. Stupid boy is a philosophical lesson to teach which is good however a 4 year old will simply not have interest in getting such a book. 2.2. 4 – 8 year olds are also more engaged if the content has good visuals, bright colours and easy messages thus the new target group should be from 7 – 12 year olds. 2.3. Be aggressive to drive sales. 2. Get creative with your merchandising even when using different locations to sell your book. 3.4. Make banners of characters using your current workforce, with the character and the company’s name/logo and get an advantageous spot in the other retailers to attract attraction to your book e.g. the centre spot by the entrance with higher customer traffic. 3.5.
