Final Essay California, and Florida are similar in some ways but difference in others, per example The beauty of California if I compared to Florida it is the Mediterranean, tropical weather, its vast ocean front waters, the beauty of its coastlines, the Agricultural land, and the reaches of the Employment opportunities, all in contrast makes California more desirable place to live than Florida. Introduction

California is one of the best and desirable places to live in the world. In the winter of 1987, I was living in Florida city, one morning I got up to go to work, the day was very nice from one minute to the next the sky started to get dark, darker clouds cover the sky. People at the trailer park was so fearful, they started to run to shelter places, they were right that day, it rained so hard, and it was lightning and thundering, the winds were so strong that, it could take a tree up from his roots. The people who did not have enough time to run to the shelter place, suffer very big loss, the next day I went to the town to look around, the little city was devastating, windows from business broken, trees were laid on the streets, cars were upside down, and broken homes all destroyed, it was a disaster that I will never like to re-live again, and it was a big experience in my life.

I. First main point. California’s tropical weather makes life enjoyable, when the rain is falling it rains so smoothly that it is hardly any lighting or thundering to the point for people to get scare, everybody drives to do their activities enjoying the rainy day. The rainy season bring many activities for people to enjoy, people go fishing out in the ocean, some people go whale watching, others go Jet Skid, or snow skid at the mountain of Big bear, from November through April is the best time to enjoy the smoothly reined days, and the

Driver Shortage

...The growing U.S. economy has exposed a driver shortage among the motor carrier industry. The rise in consumer demand has increased freight volume in the industry. While this is positive news the growth in the industry could be hampered due to a lack of available drivers. According to the American Trucking Associations, the industry’s shortage is close to 35,000 drivers (Carey, 2014). This issue could continue to get worse if nothing is done to combat it. It is estimated by 2020, according to ATA, the motor carrier industry’s driver shortage could grow to 240,000 drivers (McNally, 2014). While many trucking companies are finding ways to attract drivers, such as covering the cost of licensing and signing bonuses, U.S. Xpress is addressing the driver shortage with its own approach to the problem (Carey, 2014). One of the ways U.S. Xpress is handling the driver shortage is to increase the base mile pay (McNally, 2014). This has raised drivers pay by 13 percent (Carey, 2014). While that is a big step to close the shortage gap more is needed to confront the problem. U.S. Xpress, to counter the shortage and attracting drivers, is removing the OTR (over the road) solo driver’s sliding pay scale (McNally, 2014). For OTR drivers, who spend long periods of time out on the road, calculating their base pay from week to week under the sliding pay scale was difficult (McNally, 2014). Now, no matter how long a haul is every OTR solo drivers makes the same base mileage pay (McNally, 2014). U...

Driver Retention

...Schedule for Implementing a Driver Control Program MKTG6513 Abstract This marketing plan is used on lessening driver turnover by reducing the communication gap between drivers and dispatchers. For each of the three years of the marketing plan, a trucking company starts with$1,000,000. To prevent repeating prior mistakes which cause drivers to leave the company, effective marketing and promotion which highlight the change in hiring style need to be implemented. To be effective in a trucking company, technology plays an imperative role which is utilized very carefully in this plan to remain within the budget while using most of it. In order to retain and minimize the turnover percentage of drivers, their training is vital, so that they represent the company in a more effective manner and help the company to retain the client. Together, the relationship of drivers with dispatchers and technology suggest the company can generate profit with a moderate rate. The prevalent concern confronting the trucking business is not the mounting fuel and insurance expenses, but rather, the aptitude to entice, recruit and preserve excellent drivers. According to Keller and Ozment (1999), “[1] the cost to replace a driver has been reported to range from 3,000 to 12,000 dollars [1]” (p. 99). Where does one start to better retain a quality driver? Chances are you have many worthy drivers in your fleet, and the odds are even...

Taxi Driver

...Taxi Driver The movie Taxi Driver, directed by Martin Scorsese, "may be the greatest first person character study ever committed to film" according to an interview of Quentin Tarantino. Within the realm of film noir there is interplay with light and darkness and there is the classic main character. The main character within every film noir has a couple key components that are common within many of the antiheroes of the genre. The film noir anti-hero, or corrupted hero, is most known for their descent moralistically or in the case of Travis Bickle, mentally. The conventions used to display this mental ambiguity is via the mis en scene, cinematography, and editing. Most normal formal elements that are used in film noir are within Taxi Driver. The hero, most of the time in film noir, is a washed up hero who is preconditioned to descend into darkness in order to let justice prevail. In Taxi Driver, Scorsese doesn’t have Travis Bickle descend in terms of moral ambiguity but rather turns Travis from oddball to murderer. Travis’ dissension mentally is synonymous to a film noir hero’s dissension morally.
Like many film noir heroes, Travis seems predisposed on becoming a psychopathic killer. Being an ex Marine, it seems he needs a lot of time to keep himself busy, and as a result is a complete loner. The mis en scene, editing, and cinematography of the movie show the audience many scenes that connote to his later and more troubling behavior. The lighting is a part of mis en scene that...

Device Drivers

...Q1. What is device driver?                  OR          Use of driver software.   Ans.   A device driver or software driver is a computer program allowing higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device.                  A driver typically communicates with the device through the computer bus or communications subsystem to which the hardware connects. When a calling program invokes a routine in the driver, the driver issues commands to the device. Once the device sends data back to the driver, the driver may invoke routines in the original calling program. Drivers are hardware-dependent and operating-system-specific. Uses of device driver: a. A device driver simplifies programming by acting as a translator between a hardware device and the applications or operating systems that use it. Programmers can write the higher-level application code independently of whatever specific hardware device it will ultimately control, because code and device can interface in a standard way, regardless of the software superstructure or of underlying hardware   b. The device-driver accepts these generic high-level commands and breaks them into a series of low-level device-specific commands as required by the device being driven.   c. Drivers can provide a level of security as they can run in kernel-mode thereby protecting the operating system from applications running in user-mode.                                               SECTION - B ( 5 MARKS )     ...

Taxi Driver Thesis

...The worldview of Taxi Driver is the cynical take of what New York reality was in 1976. One of the characteristics that distinguish a film or TV show shot in Toronto, but set in New York is the garbage. New York streets are filled with garbage and it litters every frame of Taxi Driver. In Scorsese’s view, New York has become so vile that men like Travis have prepared themselves to clean up the streets as they wish to. That’s not to say Scorsese condones their actions, the film is shot in documentary style for a reason, no reason to cover that fact up. The world is being built in such a way that it becomes an excuse for violence. Several assassination attempts toward political figures have been cited as reasons by the perpetrators, such as John Hinckley Jr. He supposedly identified with...

...With a Super Bowl ring under his belt, along with four pro-bowl victories, and winner of Season 14 ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Driver’s net worth is approximately 16 million. And although he is known far and wide to be a good player, and a great man, Driver’s past was anything but ‘16 million.’ He was born on February 2, 1975, in the slums of Houston, Texas. Driver encountered many hardships during his early youth. The entire family was forced to live out of a U-Haul trailer for a long period of time, after a collection agency seized the family's belongings. They would also spend many nights in motel rooms that his mother had bought using their food stamps. He and his older brother Marvin III, began stealing cars and selling drugs during their teenage years in order to keep their mother and sisters alive. Driver was quoted by USA Today stating, "You try to do anything you can to provide for your family." Throughout his early years, Driver began to shine as an athlete. He excelled in not only football, but also basketball and track. Even with a patchy attendance record, Driver graduated high school, and started to attend Alcorn State University in Mississippi, where he was noticed by talent scouts for his Olympic-class speed and high jump. This was a turning point in Driver’s life, where he not only met the woman of his dreams, but also started seeing his...

Loneliness in Taxi Driver

...boundaries. However, film is not only created as an entertainment tool, it can often also mirror society and its changing values. A film can be a communicator of ideas whether it is reflecting political perspectives or challenging cultural issues. This is the case in 1976, when Martin Scorsese and screenwriter Paul Schrader had created the modern film classic Taxi Driver. During this time America had undergone a lot of fluctuations in its economic and social movements. This film takes place in New York City through the perspective of the protagonist Travis Bickle, who is played by Robert De Niro. Through Bickle's eyes the city appears to be corrupted and struggling. Furthermore this iconic thriller takes place when America is facing new wounds from the post-world war two eras. From the main character’s perspective, the film examines the theme of loneliness that influences the protagonist’s character development in an urban society. On the surface, the film is based on the life of Travis Bickle who was once a Vietnam vet that finds the means to survive in the big apple through a blue-collar job as a Taxi Driver. The film illustrates the alienation that occurs to individuals after a social change to political events. In this film the story’s backdrop is placed in the 1970s of New York City....

Troubeshooting Graphics Drivers

Microsoft’s testing lab has an extensive amount of resources pertaining to today’s top leading manufacturers to ensure compatibility with Microsoft operating systems and other software. As such with the wide assortment of graphics cards or adapters ensure optimal performance and usability. However, there are instances where a display issue may be caused by and fixed by Microsoft or the manufacturer by way of the graphics adapter’s drivers. Troubleshooting a video problem is a straightforward process with a limited number of issues. First off, the graphics adapter’s driver is either corrupt or improperly installed under a different version. For example, downloading and installing a driver for an x64- based system when the actual architecture is an x86-based version of Windows 7 and vice versa. Secondly, the issue may be caused by the user improperly installing the graphics adapter. And thirdly, the adapter may not be compatible with Windows 7 either. Your video card must have a display driver installed in order to do anything but the most basic drawing to the screen. If you're having any problems with your video card, one of the first things you should do is download the latest display driver, uninstall the current display driver, and then install the new driver you downloaded. This can make lots of problems disappear. There is no point in spending time trying to trace down the cause of video...

Taxi Driver Film Critique

...Taxi Driver Martin Scorsese’s, Taxi Driver is the definition of dark and gritty. The movie follows a military veteran, Travis Bickle, who lives in New York as he battles insomnia and some dark demons. Travis decides to become a taxi driver in order to make some extra money. Travis seems to have this infatuation with cleaning up the streets of New York from the filth and scum. Travis records his accounts and thoughts daily in his diary. Travis decides to work the worst neighborhoods in New York; just adding to his hatred of the drug dealers and prostitutes who run free. The film has its moments that are a bit awkward. Like Travis’s unhealthy obsession with porn theaters. Later in the film, Travis becomes obsessed with a girl who works as a campaign volunteer, Becky. After a misunderstanding between them and she no longer wants to see Travis, he comes enraged. I thought the movie could not get any darker, but Travis begins to train and mold his body to what I would assume is a killing machine. I suppose he saw himself as a super hero sent to clean up the streets of New York. He begins to purchase fire arms and train with them regularly. Along the film, he meets a young girl by the name of Iris, who is caught up in a prostitution ring. Travis becomes determined to free her of her abusers and after a violent shootout between her pimps, he is able to rescue her. I enjoyed the film very much. At first, I just thought it was going to be a memoir of a lonely New York taxi driver. As...

American Dream Themes in Taxi Driver

Film Quarterly Vol. 29, No. 4 (Summer, 1976). Pp. 37-41. Print. Dempsey’s review of Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese is an analytical synopsis of the film given in comparison through other novels and films. Dempsey opens his criticism of Taxi Driver by stating that Taxi Driver’s inspiration came from Robert Bresson’s Four Nights of a Dreamer. Dempsey continues to recap the film and calls De Niro’s portrayal of the main character as bringing a brilliant conception alive with expert minimalism. Dempsey’s most surprising review comes in the form of the infamous climactic end to the film. Dempsey describes this as “only a revenge movie cliché; like the shark attacks in Jaws” further stating that is only provided a reflexive physical reaction. Ebert, Roger. “Taxi Driver”, “Blue Velvet” Y El Sueño Americano

...DRIVERS OF GLOBALIZATION PROCESS The key factors seem to underlie the trend towards the increasing globalization of markets and production: 1. The decline of barriers to trade and investment: Decline in Trade barriers: Many of the barriers to international trade took the form of high tariffs on imports of manufactured goods. However, this depressed world demand and contributed to the great depression of the 1930’s. After World War II, the industrialized countries of the West started a process of removing barriers to the free flow of goods, services, and capital between nations. Under GATT, over 140 nations negotiated even further to decrease tariffs and made significant progress on a number of non-tariff issues (e.g. intellectual property, trade in services). The most recent round of negotiations known as Uruguay round was competed in December 1993. The Uruguay round further reduced trade barriers, covering services as well as manufactured goods provided enhanced protection for patents, trade marks and copyrights and established WTO to police the international trading system. With the establishment of the WTO, a mechanism now exists for dispute resolution and the enforcement of trade laws. Average tariff rates have fallen significantly since 1950’s, and under the Uruguay agreement, they have approached 3.9 % by 2000. This removal of barriers to trade has taken place in conjunction with increased trade, world output, and foreign direct investment. Decline in investment...
