...Zipcar, is an innovative car sharing company, founded by Antje Danielson and Robin Chase. In Cambridge Massachusetts, 2000. The business model consist in an immediate, electronic, car rental reservation, using mobile phones. Users can reserve a car at any time, in over 400 college campuses and over 50 airports. Zipcars are located in different areas of USA, Canada, UK, Spain, Austria, France and Turkey. The driver has to return the vehicle to the same parking space were the car was initially located ready for the next user. Zipcar has its competitors, RelayRides and GetAround offer a similar service, traditional car rentals are another option for the customer, and Uber is also considered a competitor. The main problem that Zipcar is having, and that is mentioned in the case “Zipcar – Influencing Customer Behavior” is that sometimes drivers are not calculating the time they have to use the car and when cars are reserved for another service after, it causes a lateness problem that affects the Zipcar´s service model. As mentioned above, Zipcar, is located in different cities around the world, with more than 10,000 vehicles, it also offers an innovative mobility service that gives their affiliates...

Evolution of Distracted Driving

...dates back almost to the beginning of the automobile. In 1930, car radios were in question. Massachusetts and St. Louis proposed laws to ban radios while driving. According to historian Michael Lamm, “Opponents of car radios argued that they distracted drivers and caused accidents, that tuning them took a driver’s attention away from the road, and that music could lull a driver to sleep” (qtd. in DeMain). In a 1934 poll of New York Auto club members, 56 percent considered the car radio a “dangerous distraction.” However, the Radio Manufacturers Association recognized the potential benefits of the radio and defended keeping them for the purposes of informing drivers of bad road conditions, severe weather and helping sleepy drivers stay awake (qtd. in DeMain). Automobiles have changed greatly since their inception, including the interior accessories and instrumentation. Automobile manufacturers have not always taken into account the diminished vision of older drivers when designing labels for the interior accessories. This can lead to older drivers spending more time struggling to read the poorly labeled instruments instead of concentrating on the road. Many people use the car interior as an office, restaurant, and beauty salon. These functions are completely acceptable, just not while the vehicle is in motion. A drive around town will reveal many activities being performed by drivers that fall into the category of distracted driving. With the pace of life getting faster and...

On Street Parking

...parking as crucial in benefiting activity centers on numerous levels. Users of the downtowns consistently valued these landefficient on-street parking spaces over and above off-street surface lots and garages. Low-speed streets with on-street parking also had the lowest fatal and severe crash rates of any road category in the study of 250 Connecticut roadway segments. Part of the reason is that the presence of parking had a measurable effect on vehicle speeds. On-street parking is not purely a device to be used in the right environment; rather, it is a tool to help create that right environment. On-street parking should be more commonly used but especially in situations in which the road is part of the destination and the intent is to cause drivers to slow down. Results suggest that these places are safer, are more walkable, require less parking, and have more vitality. The ongoing debate about the merits and drawbacks of on-street parking offers few definitive answers because research on this subject has been lacking during the past two or three decades. Some downtowns simply provide on-street parking wherever possible,...

Htt200 Week 9 Assignment

...I have chosen Dublin, Ireland as my destination choice. I chose this place because I’m part Irish and I’ve always wanted to visit. I think there would be many cool things to do and see in and around Dublin. “Celtic tribes arrived on the island between 600 and 150 B.C. Invasions by Norsemen that began in the late 8th century were finally ended when King Brian BORU defeated the Danes in 1014. English invasions began in the 12th century and set off more than seven centuries of Anglo-Irish struggle marked by fierce rebellions and harsh repressions. A failed 1916 Easter Monday Rebellion touched off several years of guerrilla warfare that in 1921 resulted in independence from the UK for 26 southern counties; six northern (Ulster) counties remained part of the UK. In 1949, Ireland withdrew from the British Commonwealth; it joined the European Community in 1973. Irish governments have sought the peaceful unification of Ireland and have cooperated with Britain against terrorist groups. A peace settlement for Northern Ireland is gradually being implemented despite some difficulties. In 2006, the Irish and British governments developed and began to implement the St. Andrews Agreement, building on the Good Friday Agreement approved in 1998.” Ireland is located in Western Europe, occupying five-sixths of the island of Ireland in the North Atlantic Ocean, west of Great Britain. “Ireland has a mild, temperate climate with a mean annual temperature of around 50°F.
