Go to: Abstract Knowledge about users and their information needs can contribute to better user interface design and organization of information in clinical information systems. This can lead to quicker access to desired information, which may facilitate the decision-making process. Qualitative methods such as interviews, observations and surveys have been commonly used to gain an understanding of clinician information needs. We introduce clinical information system (CIS) log analysis as a method for identifying patient-specific information needs and CIS log mining as an automated technique for discovering such needs in CIS log files. We have applied this method to WebCIS (Web-based Clinical Information System) log files to discover patterns of usage. The results can be used to guide design and development of relevant clinical information systems. There were some research in the 80’s and 90’s arguing that the economic loss for the whole society due to suicides (majorly due to the lost productivity) is significantly high. “There are about 30,000 individuals who completed suicide each year in the United States. According to an estimation of the costs to society of depression in 1980 calculated that the 16,111 depressed people who completed suicide in 1980 resulted in a loss of $4.2 billion due to lost productivity, which comes to a loss of $260,691 for each person who completed suicide.” However, some other researchers (Yang, B., & Lester, D) redid the cost-benefit analysis a decade later, arguing that the total savings from people who suicide, in fact, exceeds the cost to the society, and therefore there is a net savings to the society as whole. Although it does not imply that suicide should be acceptable to society, but purely in economic sense, the prevention of suicide is likely to incur economic costs to the society as does the prevention and treatment of medical illness. I use the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth whose respondents graduated from college between 1979 and 1989. I estimate the e¤ects of both national and state economic conditions at time of college graduation on labor market outcomes for the …rst two decades of a career. Because timing and location of college graduation could potentially be a¤ected by economic conditions, I also instrument for the college unemployment rate using year of birth (state of residence at an early age for the state analysis). I …nd large, negative wage e¤ects to graduating in a worse economy which persist for the entire period studied.
