The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The OIG is charged with helping the EPA protect the environment in a more efficient and cost effective way. The OIG performs audits, evaluations, and investigations of EPA and its contractors, to promote economy and efficiency, and to deter and detect fraud, waste, and abuse. Helping to ensure a clean and healthy environment for Americans.
In order for the Office of the Inspector General to be effective it must perform audits, evaluations, and investigations of EPA and its contractors, to ensure efficiency, and to detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse. These findings and issues are provided in detail to Congress twice a …show more content…
A common trend among all three reports pertain to mismanaging funds and abusing company resources.
In the November 2015 report the IG cites EPA region mismanaged coastal wetlands planning, protect and restoration ACT funds. The IG recommended that the
• EPA reimburse the Task Force due to questioned cost of nearly 800,000 dollars.
• Unless the EPA can substantiate the funds in questioned were incurred in accordance with CWPPRA law and principles and interagency agreements, its recommended that the EPA reimburse the funds.
• Region 6 Assistant Regional Administrator work with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) to perform an internal review of the Water Quality Protection Division’s (WQPD’s) Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) spending for the fiscal year ending in 2014 to identify improper expenditures that occurred in 2008 and 2009. IG ultimately urges the proper stewardship and accounting of CWPPRA resources

• safety of the work space for employee reasonable accommodation telework.
