Criteria Pollutants

Criteria Pollutants
The EPA determines and places legal limits of certain pollutants in the water. Water quality standards are determined by Scientists who make a list of who uses the water like, humans, plants, and animals. Then they determine the uses like drinking, showering, homes for fish, bugs, wildlife, or irrigation of crops. The Scientists then group the uses into categories like Aquatic Life, Drinking Water, and Recreation. After that they determine what uses that the bodies of waters support. An example is that all bodies of waters should support Aquatic Life. When all of those things are established, the Scientists, oversee the water bodies to decide if they support the category. The scores that the water bodies receive, after they are monitored, are Good, and Impaired.
The EPA has indexed 167 chemicals as criteria pollutants. Most of the chemicals are very harmful. Some of the chemicals are even natural chemicals. The level of the chemical that is in the water determines if it is toxic or not. This list shows what chemical, then it confirms the concentrations for freshwater, saltwater, and human consumption. The results are given for the CMC-Criteria Maximum Concentration.
The standards for drinking water are much higher and tougher. The standards are from Drinking Water Standards and Health Advisories contain a list of tables that covers ninety-four contaminates. The ninety-four contaminates are enforced by the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, and are shown as maximum contaminate levels (MCL’s). That means there can only be a certain amount of the chemical in the water that are at a safe level for drinking.
The quality criteria pollutants are like indirect chemicals in the water that is being used for washing, watering plants, and cooking. The maximum contaminate levels are the maximum levels of chemicals that can be in water

American Bald Eagle

...commonly known as the American Bald Eagle, is the only eagle that is indigenous to North America. This majestic bird of prey, the emblem of our county, was once on the brink of extinction despite its lack of natural predators. The bald eagle is one of the few species that has been removed from the Endangered Species list due to successful recovery efforts. Within the temperate deciduous forest of United States, the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is home to the largest population of breeding bald eagles north of Florida (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service , n.d.). Identification Despite the distinct markings of the mature bald eagle, identification between male and female can be difficult. Immature bald eagles can be even more difficult to identify as they do not have the distinct white head that the adult eagles do. Another factor that can make identification of young eagles challenging in the area of observation is the similarities to the Golden Eagle that, while not as prevalent, also reside in the biome. (Clark, 1983). Mature Adults Mature adult bald eagles have distinct white plumage on their head and tail. The bill, legs and feet are bright yellow while the body and wings are dark brown. Female bald eagles are larger than males, with wider wingspans of 6 ½ to 7 feet versus 6 to 6 ½ feet in males and weigh 10-14 pounds versus 8-10 pounds in males. (Seattle Audubon Society, n.d.). Immature Bald Eagles Immature bald eagles plumage are uniformly medium to dark...

Geoffrey Dutton brings to the light one day from the life of these pilots and depicts the event that makes the reader cry – the killing of one of the most gorgeous and powerful bird - wedge-tailed eagle.

Prosperous but Destructive

...Hotel” is a song produced by the Eagles, in the 1970's. Similar to many other songs and articles, “California Hotel” talks about the lifestyle these artists encountered after settling in California. To many people, living in California was a dream. In “Golden State, Golden Youth” Kirse Granat May states,“To those who followed the rush to gold, California remained unique: a place to regain health, live on the frontier, build a railroad, exploit agricultural possibilities, discover oil, or make fortunes in real estate. For newcomers, it was still the land of the second chance, glowing with opportunity amidst sunshine.” The Eagles were a band that moved to california to pursue their dreams, just like millions of people across the world. These artists heard many rumors about the endless money, women, and fame thats awaiting for them in the golden state, so they took their chances. Unlike many people which moved to california, their dreams of money and fame came true. But what they didn't know is that everything comes with a price. The lifestyle that came with that much fame and money, was a life style that had no true love, only meaningless sex, drug abuse, and an unethical life. After these artists discovered the true life of a Californian star, they wished they have never came; they tried to escape the life they were living but it was too late and they couldn't. The introduction of this song was very detailed and I think self explanatory. The Eagles try to make us visualize their...
