Ted Bundy

Early Life
Childhood:
Bundy’s birth name was Theodore Robert Cowell born in Burlington, Vermont on November 24, 1946 to Eleanor Cowell.
The identity of his father is unknown. However, family members signified suspicions that the father may actually have been Louise’s own violent, abusive father named, Samuel Cowell, though there was no evidence to support such speculation.
For the first three years of his life Bundy lived in the Philadelphia home of his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Eleanor Cowell, who raised him as their son to avoid the social stigma that accompanied illegitimate birth at the time. Family, friends, and even young Ted were told that his grandparents were his parents and that his mother was his older sister. Eventually he discovered the truth, but how and when is not clear. He told his girlfriend that a co usin showed him a copy of his birth certificate after calling him a "bastard", but he told biographers Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth that he found the certificate himself. Biographer and true crime writer Ann Rule, who knew Bundy personally, believes that he tracked down his original birth record in Vermont in 1969. Bundy expressed a lifelong resentment toward his mother for lying about his true parentage and leaving him to discover it for himself.
While Bundy spoke warmly of his grandparents in some interviews and told Ann Rule that he "identified with", "respected", and "clung to" his grandfather, he and other family members told attorneys in 1987 that Samuel Cowell was a tyrannical bully and a bigot who hated blacks, Italians, Catholics, and Jews, beat his wife and the family dog, and swung neighborhood cats by their tails. He once threw Louise's younger sister Julia down a flight of stairs for oversleeping. He sometimes spoke aloud to unseen presences, and at least once he flew into a violent rage when the

Early Life Experience and Potential

... with social and emotional wellbeing variously described in terms of mental health, resilience, psychosocial competence and the like. While the discourse of wellbeing is now widely appropriated as a way of capturing our aspirations for children and young people, the term itself is poorly defined and under-theorised (Griffiths & Cooper, 2005; Hamilton & Redmond, 2010; McAuley & Rose, 2010; Noble, 2008). There is a significant instability and ambiguity around the term ‘wellbeing’ both in public policy and popular discourse. Ereaut and Whiting (2008) contend that signals a shifting set of meanings, that is, it represents what is collectively agreed by a group or number of groups constituting the Aristotelian notion of ‘the good life’. In similar vein, Ryan and Deci (2001, p.141) propose that wellbeing is a complex construct that concerns optimal experience and functioning, which will of course be somewhat relative to context. While it is beyond the scope of this paper to canvass literature the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of wellbeing it is worth pointing out that the current research on wellbeing has been derived from two broad perspectives: the hedonic approach, which focuses on happiness and defines wellbeing in...

Life in Early Virgina

...There were many key factors that made early life in Virginia miserable. Many of these unfortunate events began before the settlers even arrived at Virginia, and many died on the four month long expedition through the Atlantic Ocean. Once the remaining crew arrived at the New World, conditions did not improve and due to many different aspects. Lives of early Virginia settlers were made miserable due to consistent high death rates and food shortages. Hardships began even before the settlers first arrived on Virginia’s shore. Many traveler’s died on the four month voyage such as in April 1607 when only 105 of the original 144 settlers arrived to Chesapeake Bay. The hard times continued that summer when 46 more settlers died and even still in the winter months when by January, only 38 men were still alive. The death toll was still shocking even 15 years later in 1622 when roughly 3,500 Virginians went missing. There are some theories that account for some of the missing people, but cannot rationalize the whole sum of people. Some theories include the immune system being weakened by the voyage, diseases including malaria and typhoid fever, and poor diet. Another reason life in early Virginia was miserable was because of food shortages. The lack of food especially hit hard during the winter months when farming did not occur. During the winter of 1609, the food supply they had including sheep, goats, hens and hogs dwindled, so the settlers had to switch to eating “doggs catts ratts...

According to the Julian calendar and Annunciation Style of enumerating years, then in use in the British Empire, Washington was born on February 11, 1731; when the Gregorian calendar was implemented in the British Empire in 1752, in accordance with the provisions of the Calendar (New Style) Act 1750, his birth date became February 22, 1732. Washington's ancestors were from Sulgrave, England; his great-grandfather, John Washington, had emigrated to Virginia in 1657. George's father Augustine was a slave-owning tobacco planter who later tried his hand in iron-mining ventures. In George's youth, the Washingtons were moderately prosperous members of the Virginia gentry, of "middling rank" rather than one of the leading planter families. At this time, Virginia and other southern colonies had become a slave society, in which slaveholders formed the ruling class and the economy was based on slave labor. Six of George's siblings reached maturity, including two older half-brothers, Lawrence and Augustine, from his father's first marriage to Jane Butler Washington, and four full siblings, Samuel, Elizabeth (Betty), John Augustine and Charles.
