* Evoluţia demografică a României

Earth Day

...Earth Day I think one of the biggest environmental problems we face worldwide is air pollution. Air pollution is the presence in the atmosphere of any substance at a concentration great enough to produce an undesirable effect on humans, animals, vegetation, or materials, or to significantly alter the natural balance of any ecosystem. Air pollutants can be solids, liquids, or gases, and can have local, regional, and global impacts. One form of air pollution is photochemical smog. "Smog" is a contraction of the words "smoke" and "fog," and was originally used to describe air pollution caused by coal burning in London. Urban smog is photochemical because many of the chemicals found in urban air are formed by chemical reactions driven by sunlight. Among the many air pollutants in urban smog that are produced by photochemical reactions, one of the most abundant is ozone, O3 . Ground level ozone and other photochemical pollutants are formed in urban atmospheres by the reactions of oxides of nitrogen (mainly NO and NO 2 ) in the presence of hydrocarbons. In CHE 133 we learned about combustion reactions. A combustion reaction is a type of redox reaction in which a combustible material combines with an oxidizer to form oxidized products and generate heat. In a combustion reaction oxygen combines with another compound to form carbon dioxide and water. Oxides of nitrogen are byproducts of combustion processes. At the high temperatures generated during combustion, some......

...Let’s save the ‘Mother Earth’ The noble ‘Earth’ has bestowed the human beings with incredible and beautiful nature in the form of mountains, rivers, forests and various natural resources that helped human beings to survive and initiated our evolution. So, now it’s our time to save our planet from the challenges which are threatening the existence of the earth… The life of Human beings originated on the planet Earth .The “Mother Earth” is calling us for her protection. People have become selfish and they are killing the beautiful forests, damming the rivers and making more concrete walls without even realizing that by doing these activities, they are giving invitation to the termination of their own existence. Our earth is burning from both ends as the river beds are running dry. The plants and mammals are like us-living things. The biggest challenge that our earth is facing today is ‘global warming’, the glaciers are melting, sea level is rising, & the climate is changing on a fast pace. So, we must help to save them all. World Earth Day is celebrated all over the world annually on 22nd April. This time; it will be the 40th anniversary of World Earth Day. | Origin It was first launched by honest efforts of the US senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970 from Wisconsin along with Denis Hayes as the main organizer of the activities for the grand event. It is really heartening to know that even at the commencement of the Earth Day; approximately twenty......

Earth Sun

...LECTURE 2 Earth-Sun Relationships and Illumination of the Globe I. Earth-Sun Relationships: Why we have to understand? Because by understanding earth-sun relationships one will be able to determine the apparent path of the sun in the sky, the angles at which sun's ray (light) strike, the lengths of day and night, and the occurence of seasons. The earth is turning on its axis at the same time that it is moving in a path about the sun, and because the earth's axis is tilted with respect to the plane of its orbit, therefore, it will be much easier for us to view these relationships in 3-dimension, or to view the earth from space. II. Motion of the Earth: Rotation and Revolution A. Rotation: The spinning of the earth on its polar axis. Direction of Rotation: is from west to east (eastward), eastward rotation of the earth. Looking down upon the North Pole - it is counterclockwise rotation; clockwise movement on the South Pole. Time of Rotation: Mean Solar Day - consisting of 24 mean solar hours, it is the average time required for the earth to make one complete turn (rotation) in respect to the sun. Velocity of Rotation: rate of travel of a point on the earth's surface in a circular path due to rotation. Angular velocity (constant on earth) and linear velocity. Equator: 25,000 miles / 24 hrs = 1050 miles / hr 40,000 km/24 hrs = 1700 km/ hr 60 N & S = 525 miles / hr = 850 km / hr 90 N & S = 0 mile / hr We are unaware of this motion because......

...Days on the Planets We are all accustomed to thinking of a day as a period of 24 hours. Many people often wonder how and why a an hour consists of 60 minutes and a day is divided into 24 hours. We can all tell time and we schedule our appointments and dates around time and day all the time. No one ever really stops to look into the history of the origin of time and how it was determined to be divided upon. However, that definition is a narrow one that only applies to planet earth., but what about other planets? One day is the length of time it takes for a planet to complete one single rotation on its axis which is 360°. Since all of the planets rotate at different speeds, the length of a day on each one differs. The definition of a day will explain just how many hours are in a day for Earth, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus , Neptune, Mercury and Pluto. Explanation of the units of an hour and day There is documented evidence of the use of sundials that were used by Egyptians as early as 1500 B.C.. Sundials were stakes that were strategically placed in the ground so that they can indicate the time by the length and direction of the resulting shadow. A duodecimal system was used to divide the time period between sunrise and sunset into 12 parts. The number 12 was significant because it is the number of lunar cycles in a year. The night sky was divided by 12 and a circle into 360 degrees. They divided the day and night each into 12 hours. The hour was......

Original Creation of Earth

...Original Creation of the Earth (The Big Bang vs. Six-Day Creation) TANITKA C. SMITH PHSC210_A24_201240 Debora Ladner December 3, 2012 INTRODUCTION The Big-Bang Theory, accepted widely by atheists and many scientists, simply says this: between 10 and 20 billion years ago a “bang” or explosion occurred from a single point in nothingness and with the scattering of googles of atoms, the earth came into being. An eruption of sorts occurred, haphazardly distributing the smallest particles of matter that miraculously adjoined themselves to create living, breathing organisms and every other object on the earth. Every word of the Bible is true. Every day, creation scientists are finding more and more evidence to support the six days of creation. There is nothing wrong with science, but in the end it is the fallible word of man. YOUNG EARTH At its simplest, evolution is a hypothesis which claims that all life has descended with modification from a primitive single celled organism in the remote past. The development has been one of increasing complexity. Originally, the first cell evolved from a preexisting organic “soup” in a primeval ocean, which in turn developed from chance conglomerations of inorganic chemicals. Ultimately, these chemicals themselves were produced by the “Big Bang” origin of the actual universe. Against overwhelming evidence it is said that the Big Bang happened billions of years ago, and gives argument that the earth and the universe......

...learnt so far. A greenhouse is a house made of glass. It has glass walls and a glass roof. People grow tomatoes and flowers and other plants in them. A greenhouse stays warm inside, even during winter. Sunlight shines in and warms the plants and air inside. But the heat is trapped by the glass and can't escape. So during the daylight hours, it gets warmer and warmer inside a greenhouse, and stays pretty warm at night too. This is because the heat received from the sun is trapped inside the greenhouse by the glass. The Earth is also like a greenhouse. During the day Earth’s surface warms up in the sunlight. At night, the surface cool, releasing the heat back into the air. But some of the heat is trapped by gas like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. These gases, called greenhouse gases, work like the glass walls and the roof and keep the earth warm. This is global warming and it is making the earth dangerous planet. Unfortunately, we are making the earth too hot. We are using oil, gas and...

Old Earth Geology

...The Origin of Old-Earth Geology and its Ramifications for Life in the 21st Century The theories and beliefs about how the world began can be a tense and hot button issue. Usually, it is the Christians vs. the scientists. However, in Mortenson’s article, he presents us with a third group of believers, the Christian scientists. Mortenson explores these beliefs and theories of all three groups, and explains to us the importance of the debate then and now. Brief Overview and Main Points Christians in Eastern and Western Europe and the United States believed overwhelmingly that the world was created by God in 6 days, and each day was 24 hours long. Belief in this was steadfast until the late 18th century, when different types of theories were developed. These new theories did not include God’s works (or flat-out denied them), but just focused on the origin and history of the earth (Mortenson 2003). . Three French scientists, proposed that the earth was anywhere from 78,000 years old to that the earth was formed an indefinite amount of time, but very, very long ago. These new theories were just focused on biological and geological ideas. At this same period of time, geology was becoming more a legitimate field of study. Abraham Warner, a German mineralogist, was really the first to state that geologically, the earth was at least a million years old. This continued to build and popularize the idea of old-earth theory (Mortenson 2003). James Hutton, a farmer......

...the early days of mankind, humans were led to believe that he or she were the sole entity of the universe. The Earth was thought of as exact center of the solar system, and that other planets revolved around it. Through the efforts and determination of individuals who refused to believe unchecked facts or documents, Earth is not the center of the universe but is instead a small piece to a larger solar system. The discoveries made by earlier pioneers of science Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton. Developed ideas that help individuals understand the concepts of motion, and the formation of celestial bodies in space. Theories of gravity and space dramatically changed the views in which Individuals determine the origins of our Moon and other planets within our Solar System. As science and technologies progress, ideas of formations and motions in space provides more educated theories of how our world, or universe has formed and will continue to function. The Earth was formed about five billion years ago and is the earliest material in the solar system, which a solar nebula that collapsed from the formation of the sun ("How Did the Earth Form", 2012). An Essay on Global Warming

...We can feel that our earth is warming day by day from early childhood to now. The mountains covered with snow that we can see around us are getting naked. Many species have become rare and some have been disappeared from Earth. The sea level is increasing and the seasons are changing i.e. we can feel cold in summer and hot in rainy season. People are suffering from the different incurable diseases. This is all because of the global warming, which is the increase of the average temperature of the atmosphere of the Earth. One of the causes of globalization is deforestation. In my early age I still remember that there are many trees in and around the Kathmandu valley which can’t be seen now. Similarly the forest in the Terai region of Nepal and over the earth is getting smaller and smaller. The decrease in the forest results the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Thus, results the globalization. The second cause of globalization is the increasing use of fertilizers in the land. There was a time, crops used to grow without the use of chemical fertilizers which is very rare now days. Farmers are using high amount of chemical fertilizers to maximize their production. When the chemical fertilizer is added to the soil, nitrogen oxide escapes in to the atmosphere. This nitrogen oxides trap 300 times heat per volume than carbon dioxide, causes the globalization. The next cause of globalization is increasing population. When the population in the Earth increases the demand...

Hum105 Cosimic Creation Myths

...There are nine different styles of myths when talking about creation: accretion or conjunction, secretion, sacrifice, division or consummation, earth-diver, emergence, two creators, deus faber, and ex nihillo. For the purpose of discussing the Norse creation myth, and the Genesis myth focus will be on secretion, division or consummation, deus faber and ex nihillo (Leonard, 2004). Genesis: The Creation Account Arguably one of the most well-known mythological account of how the world came to be is the story of Genesis. Before divulging into the myth itself, there are two different styles of creation presented. The first is deus faber - wonder of nature, intricacy and complexity of life, and secondly, ex nihillo – of god, creating out of chaos (Leonard, 2004). In the beginning of the world, according to Genesis, there was nothing but God. Then God took seven days, which symbolize the seven days of our week. On the first day, Sunday, God created heaven and earth. Not finished with his creation, he created light on the second day, and with light came darkness, this is what is now know as night and day. On the third day he created water and land, followed by vegetation. On the fourth he created the stars to give light to the night sky, as well as the transition of seasons. All animals were created on the fifth day, and on the sixth day man was created in Gods image, to walk in his walk and do his bidding. He was to take care of world that God had built for him,......
