Individual Analyzing Internet Sources Week 2

...Pearson student lab activities. In the first activity I knew most of the information presented, but in the second activity I learned quite a bit about researching a topic. I did not know that the URL .org is no longer limited to a non-profit or research organization; which makes it harder to use that as a reliable resource but it can still be useful. I learned it is important to look for non-bias opinions, information with publish dates are resourceful, research based, and the best domains to find good information on are .org, .gov, .mil, and .edu. Although just because the site has one of these domains it does not mean the resource is accurate or correct necessarily. What did you not learn? Well as I said in the previous paragraph in the first activity most of the information that was present I acquired before. The comparison between the library and the internet are basic knowledge to most people. The Library is based for research purposes, with trained staff to help you, but closes at certain times. The internet has multiple reasons for use, with no trained assistance, but it never closes. They each have great traits that can be used for study. I also knew it is not safe to purchase items online you must be careful when doing this. You need to do research and make sure the site is reliable. Some people think because a paper has a title and author that it is true but this is not so. On some websites anyone can input whatever information they want without verifying this. It is...

Design Liability

...Design Responsibility under Design and Construct Contracts: Some issues for Principals Introduction There are a number of reasons design and construct (D&C) contracts are attractive to principals and lenders. There is a single point of responsibility for both design and construction aspects of the project, the principal is able to fast track the project although not all aspects of the construction are complete, there is greater certainty of price and the contractor is involved from the earliest stage in planning design and programming. In consequence, the principal will need to accept a higher price for the contractor to take on this additional risk compared to more traditional construct only contracts. This paper will identify some issues for principals to consider when allocating design responsibility to contractors within a D&C project. These issues arise as the design and construct process involves a fundamental conflict of interest. Principals desire to have constructed a product of the best quality for the lowest possibly price. The contractor on the other hand is more likely to make a higher profit if the product is of a lower quality (and therefore cost) and a higher price (as opposed to costs). In addition, although a greater proportion of design risk is placed on the contractor, this passing of risk is often accompanied by the abrogation of responsibility and loss of control. The paper will refer to the approaches of 3 standard form contracts -...

...positive definition one can make of "what it is." We as humans are aware that we have the freedom to choose but this is a decision made possible by our own free will and freedom. "Bad faith" is the paradoxical free decision to deny to ourselves this inescapable freedom. As humans we are consciously aware of who we are and aware of what we are. However "Bad faith" offers the free decision to deny ourselves of this freedom. Sartre cites a café waiter, whose movements and conversation are a little too keenly. He is eager to please and he carries the food solidly and impressively, "his movement is quick and forward, a little too precise, a little too rapid". His exaggerated behavior demonstrates that he is acting as a waiter, and as though his purpose in life is to simply be a waiter. He is obviously acting that lie and is aware that he is not just a waiter, but is rather consciously deceiving himself as a waiter. Sartre believes that this is "bad faith."...

...Purpose Of Life About ten years ago I was working so much I forgot about my health, family and friends. Somewhere along the road of shooting to become a successful business owner I lost track of what was most important. My dream somehow turned into a reality of being stressed out, and unhappy. It finally hit me...... Work had become my life's purpose. Like so many other entrepreneurs, I started my business for a chance at freedom and opportunity to be the master of my own destiny. I had visions of success and money, and with that I believed I could one day finally be happy. But the reality was I was not happy. I was miserable. I won't bare you with business concepts, but there is one important concept I learned that changed my life and I want to share it with you. All great companies have four things: purpose, vision, mission and care values. I asked myself, why can't I apply these ideas to my life? So I did, and here's how you can apply it to. Your life's purpose is the reason why you exist. It's the reason for being. Let me ask you again, because it's in my humble opinion, the most important question you could ever ask yourself – why do you exist? In the past, if you asked me what my life's purpose was – I would have told you it was to make lots of money. Believe me, there's nothing wrong with making money, but for myself, I finally realized it was not the reason why I exist. It was only an enabler at best. Finding your life's purpose is very much about...

Purpose of Brochure

...Purpose of Brochure The main purpose of the brochure is to inform potential customers about the business, and what sorts of products they sell. Panel 1 – This panel is essentially the most significant as it is the first part of the brochure that potential customers will see. Panel 1 contains a small amount of text, with four images and a bold, eye-catching WordArt title. I feel that it is purposeful because the images represent the products which are sold within the shop, and the text offers a brief overview of what sorts of products the shop sells. Panel 2 – The purpose of Panel 2 is to provide the potential customers with details on how to contact the business, should they want to. It contains the address of the business, an email address, and a telephone/fax number. There is also a map of Llangollen showing where ‘Cottage Cards and Crafts’ is located. Panel 3 – It informs potential customers about the business, with minimal text so that it does not look overloaded with text (which could put people off viewing it). It also contains 3 images of Llangollen within panel 3, which are purposeful because ‘Cottage Cards & Crafts’ is located in Llangollen. Panel 4 – The purpose of panel 4 is to convey a small amount of information about lovespoons. There is also 2 images on that panel; one of lovespoons and one of a welsh dragon. They are purposeful because ‘Cottage Cards & Crafts’ sell welsh lovespoons. Panel 5 - This panel contains a combination of text and images...

...a social pariah and may present harsh consequences, the road to individuality gives one an opportunity to discover his or her purpose in life through uniqueness and their morals. In “A&P,” John Updike portrays an exceptional story of a teenager’s battle between doing what is right and going along with society. The teenager, Sammy, works as a cashier at the local grocery store where he is presented with a situation with three teenage girls who walk in the store with only their bathing suits. When the manager spots the girls, he asks them to leave, and Sammy decides that they were not treated fair, so he quits his job at the store. Sammy made a choice to stand up for the girls in hopes of they would recognize his bravery and talk to him. His choice to refuse society’s ways cost him his job, but it teaches the audience a valuable lesson. When stood with adversity between what is right and wrong, one must always stand up for what is right no matter what society will think of them and no matter the consequences. By being unique, one expresses his or her individuality by standing out from the norm of society either by the way they dress and/or the way they act. In a society, one will meet some interesting people who have chosen to be unique and refuse to follow the rules of the standard world. These people are on their way to discovering their purpose in life, but they are criticized often for the choices they make. Nowadays, people are criticized not only by the way they act...

...Brinkman English Composition Journal 6 4/5/16 Exploring Our Interconnected World We live in a world full of differences, but without differences we would all be the same. Our differences is what makes us all unique. By being able to accept others for who they are allows us to recognize what unique feature represents them. Each individual contributes something special to our world without even realizing it. We need to respect each other in their own unique way of understanding and not try to change or mold them according to our way. In the reading Declarations Peggy Noonan defines the stories of America. Noonan explains the values, purpose and acceptance of how throughout our lives and the many other lives to come each individual will have a purpose and meaning to their lives and humanity. America is a world where people don’t treat everyone equally. When really everyone has the same values just in a different mindset. We all have light and dark inside us when stated, “In this valley there is beautiful and/breathtaking scenery, but there is also, old, massive, and gloomy/structures that can disturb a person deeply” (Lim, 165). This quote shows how a valley is like an individual’s personality it can be light or it can be dark depending on what that person has been through. Each one of us values something different whether it is a person or an object. Values have a major influence on a person’s behavior and attitude and serve...
