Was there an issue of being prejudged or stereotyped by others, including school faculty, based on the clothing one chose to wear? That was then, now remember how it felt. Times have changed and economic status plays such an important role in everyone’s lives, image how children of today feel. Social economics is a hard issue for adults to deal with and yet children are forced to deal with it on a daily basis in schools with their classmates, friends, and even their teachers. What solutions can be offered to change this bias for all children, regardless of age, race, and social status? One suggestion is to put school dress codes in place which would require school uniforms. School uniforms should be mandated in public schools because our children’s self esteem and education should not be determined by the clothes they wear. There is a nationwide campaign for the use of uniforms and the efforts are “gaining momentum”, states Susan Thomas (1994, p. 44). ...When autoimmune diseases emerge, the human body’s immune response produces autoantibodies that attack its own cells, tissues or organs due to an immune system malfunction. A category of autoimmune diseases, auto-immune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) is a disorder where the immune system malfunctions by producing auto-antibodies to self’s red blood cells (RBC) as well as other cells (Gurpreet et al., 2004). This unregulated increased destruction primarily affects premature RBC reducing their lifespan of 120 days coupled with the bone marrow unable to compensate to this destruction rate (Gurpreet et al., 2004). Clinical findings that result from this inapt immune response are usually directly related to an abnormally reduced RBC quantity and function. These include a lower haemaglobin count, a high indirect bilirubin count, a reduction in plasma levels, a low haptoglobin, a positive direct antiglobulin test (DAT) and reduced gas exchange rates among the lungs and tissues. As these clinical effects occur after a few hours or a few days before detection, not all clinically related typical features may be present complicating the AIHA diagnosis. Based on the characteristics and pathogenesis of these auto antibodies present, AIHA is classed as warm antibody haemolytic anaemia (WAIHA), cold antibody haemolytic anemia (CAIHA), drug indcuced haemolytic anemia or the rare paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (Lechner & Jager, 2012). PM Najib announced the country’s minimum wage policy on the eve of Labour Day. The National Minimum Wage Policy is part of the Strategic Reform Initiatives (SRI) for Human Capital Development under the Economic Transformation Programme. The minimum wage is set at MYR800-MYR900 per month with some allowances or fixed cash payments allowed to be considered in the calculation for minimum wage. It will be enforced six months from the date the Order is gazetted and will benefit 3.2m private sector workers (26%) out of the 12.3m total employment in the country. Impact on inflation should be gradual. Labour costs account for 9% of total production costs for the whole economy. But with only 26% of workers to benefit from the minimum wage, this group, at most, constitutes only 2.4% of total production cost, we estimate. According to a World Bank study in 2011, Malaysia’s wage growth (2.6% p.a.) was slower than productivity growth (6.7% p.a.), implying the capacity to implement minimum wage without causing excessive inflation rate pressures. We expect a gradual impact on inflation and maintain our inflation rate forecasts of 2.7% for 2012 and 3.3% for 2013. Gradual implementation to help manage the impact.
