Effects of News Media
News media has greatly affected the American culture on how the public stays informed concerning the current events of our state and government news. Now that news media is released at a more rapid pace through the internet, the American public can stay more informed than ever before. Although the public can receive the information faster, ethics and precaution still have to be kept in mind the facts remain straight.
Social responsibility has become a key factor in the reporting of news media. The prime benefactor to this would be media ethics. Examples of media ethics would include not publishing the names of juveniles and not displaying the names of rape victims when reporting the news. Media ethics help uphold social responsibility and keep society’s interest as the top priority. It also allows for the public to receive enough information to make a sound decision. (Middleton, Marc)
News media also gives the public the information they need to stay informed with political views. Keeping Society informed allows American’s to examine political views thoroughly and make educated decisions concerning their support on different views by politicians. The only side effect to keeping the public up to date with a political position is trusting the integrity of the source. Often, certain news media sources post or publish articles based on their biased opinion. So society must rely on thorough research in order to ensure the published view is credible.
The World Wide Web has completely altered the way journalism is delivered to the public. Before the internet, journalist would have the news first but they had to wait until the next printing day in order to get that information to the public. Now the internet gives journalist the capabilities needed to compete with radio and television. If a news story or political move

...| Effects of News Media Essay | HUM/186 - MEDIA INFLUENCES ON AMERICAN CULTURE | By: | Hill, Clinton | 1/27/2015 | In today’s society, information from the media plays an important role in our lives. I do agree with the fact that social media companies have a moral responsibility. We as people depend on the different types of media to provide the information that we seek. From the news to your favorite artist, we tend to find information to which we can relate, especially with music. If you are having a bad day there is a song from one of your favorite artist that you can relate to and it can help brighten your day or lead to a negative effect. With politics, some people might like what they hear and will protest to get their voice heard by the public figure or politician to possibly change their views. The Rodney King beating is a good example how the media influenced people to go on a rampage and riot the city. News and political opinions work together in a sense. Politician uses news media outlets to captivate the masses. Without the news media being involved in politics, Politicians couldn’t possibly reach out to the media they are trying to attract. But, with the news media is working hand and hand with politics to give us views and also opinions. We can choose whether we agree or disagree with the politics that we are viewing. Things like this can be very influential on our daily lives. Now that technology has advanced over the years, you can pretty much access...

Effects of News Media

...Effects of News Media Sharmendra Das HUM/186 November 30th, 2015 Patricia Morriss Effects of News Media Although there are a lot more outlets for news today, news media dates back centuries. In the early stages, news was spread through word of mouth, then came ancient scripts, which later gave rise to print media such as newspapers and magazines. As technology evolved, along came broadcast media such as radio and television in the 1940-1950. These days in the age of the internet, all these are available instantly at your convenience. You can now access the same newspapers, magazines, and stream radio and television anytime, anywhere rather than having to wait. With all these outlets, information media has a social responsibility. It also plays a major role in shaping of political opinions, and has transformed journalism and news consumption. The general public relies on information media daily. If the information is false, the public may perceive this as truth unknowingly. For these reasons the media outlets need to have social responsibility. Since majority of the public receives their news from the internet, these media outlets need to research and check their facts before publishing. And afterwards take responsibility for the content they publish. Since most people are connected via social media, information travels like wild fire, either being true or false. In the middle of all this there are spammers, who spread false information in the hopes for it to...

Effects of News Media

...Effects of News Media Media Influences on American Culture April 1, 2013 Effects of News Media The media has increased the availability of information about politics here and across the country. People have to constantly watch so they can stay in the know. The media plays a major part whether it comes from the newspaper, radio, television, or internet. It is important because it validates an issue or person, sets an agenda, and helps shape public opinion. Although the media is an important tool in society it is often biased, creates sensationalism and simplifies complex issues. Media information outlets have a social responsibility to report the news in a fair, unbiased and truthful format. Personal values and ethics will influence what a person thinks is socially responsible and this will make them think the media has different functions. For instance, I read two stories about two different women being raped. The first woman was gang raped in India. The media only covered information about the suspects how they were heavy drinkers, rowdy, and drunk drivers. No information nearly about the victim. The second woman was raped in Ohio by her classmates. Now her father talked about what her hopes and dreams were and how hard she worked to pay for her education. The news also put a lot of coverage on the suspects and how they were good students. The media needs to report the whole story and not just half of it. This is especially...

They are as follows; books, newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet. When you hear the words “mass media” the internet comes to mind. We can now access the internet for almost any kind of information we are looking for, the most common information used on the internet is news media and social media. Through both of these things you can now read about the latest news and current events making it easier for Americans to stay current on events. With social media being so popular, people can now access it through their cell phones. People all over America are now sharing and commenting on the latest news making news now travel even faster. With electronic media and their convergence it makes it almost impossible for American to not hear about current events in some way. With the technology of cells phones and internet, it has made it almost impossible to keep things a secret. Most cell phones now have cameras, American can now video or take pictures so there is proof to back up the information posted on these internet sites. Effects of News Media

...Effects of News Media Effects of News Media News media can be described as media that provides news coverage to the public. People all around the world look at the news or even hear about the news in order to find out what exactly is going on in the world today. I believe that the media is socially responsible for lots of things that may go on around the world due to the fact that once it is put out there for others to see then it at times can affect how another person may react. I feel that once the information is out there even if the information may be false others may perceive it as being true without doing the proper research to know if the information is true. I think it’s up to everyone to research the information to make sure they know exactly what they are talking about before passing on the information. Also, if the information is bias I feel that it should be noted ahead of time so that others know this information up front. One example is when we heard that taxes maybe increased for small businesses and those who had small business wanted to protest without gathering further information. They chose to get lawyers and have representation when they didn’t even need to do that, but they wouldn’t even know that since they had not done the research for themselves and just listening to information they had heard somewhere. Another example was when the 911 attack happen. This particular incident changed America in a big way which lead to more security around the world...

Effect of News Media

...Information and news media have definitely affected America in many ways, both good and bad. Positively, its affected America in the sense that news is more easily accessible and obtainable compared to years ago. Being that not all news stories reported are 100% accurate cause much turmoil, depending on the severity of the story. I believe information media does have social responsibility, but at the same time, the audience does as well. Reporters should be reporting accurate information to people it could cause havoc. Hypothetically speaking, if the news reported that gas prices are going to go up a dollar, how do you think the American people would act? They’d be calling everyone under the sun and lining up at gas stations. Now if only the story was actually true, that whole mess would’ve been avoided. I’ve seen instances firsthand where news stories haven’t been accurate and people freak out. While the reporter or news station should take responsibility, so should the person who is listening. Now a day, it’d be naïve of a person to take the first thing they hear about a topic and run with it. Not many people are truthful and accurate with things they spit out of their mouths. Reporters or not, they’re human just like us. I just can’t wait for the months when political campaigning takes place. And by that, I mean that I can’t stand them. Information and news media are the main reason campaigning is so successful. If a politician wants to get something out, that’s the way...

A. Adesanoye Department of Communication and Language Arts Faculty of Arts University of Ibadan November 27, 2012 ABSTRACT This literature-driven study examined mass media effects. The work peered into the history of the ‘powerful media’. An in-depth review of relevant theories of mass media effects was analyzed. Findings pointed towards both positive and negative impacts of mass media. However, there was no empirical evidence to substantiate a direct cause and effect relationship of mass media messages with the actions of the consumer of the information. Consequently we can only assert that the mass media impacts on society but does not necessarily have an effect since other factors also influence people other than information consumed from the media. As such, this study asserts that the mass media influences public opinion but does not necessarily cause it. Key words: powerful media, mass media effects, theories of mass media effects, impact of media messages INTRODUCTION The mass media involve organisations that are responsible for the dissemination of information to a large number of people. ...The media of mass communication have long played a fundamental role in people’s lives. The media informs, persuades, entertains, and even sells. For the most part; mass media is only owned by a few private companies, as we learned in the “media ownership” discussion. According to the “Telecommunications Act of 1996,”, this act was to spawn some competition the broadcast companies. It also eased the restrictions on the number of television stations one individual company can own. The media, controlled by power corporations and government organizations, has positioned itself to influence people in all manner of ways, but no one group controls the system as a whole. 90% of all television media is controlled by only six broadcast corporations. Media can provide companionship, shape perception. They are fundamental to an informed and educated public.(Pavlik, McIntosh 2004). “An important aspect of digitization is that the boundaries between different media have brought into question, and a presupposition has the developer that we are in an era of media convergence” (Storsul,Fagerjord (2008). Strosul and Fagerjord believe that “blurring the border between media does not have to mean convergence. There is also development toward stronger differentiation of media in which elements from earlier separate media and sectors are combined in new ways.” In communication, there are three forms of interpersonal, intrapersonal...
