Nowadays, debit and credit cards are very useful and convenient. This is especially true for college students. Young people generally depend on debit or credit cards. Nevertheless, the convenience of a debit and credit card does come with a “price to pay”. El Camino restaurants has a minimum debit and credit card purchase of six dollars. This means if a student were to use their debit or credit card to purchase something from the cafe, the total cost would have to add up to six dollars, or else a student cannot use a card. A student that only wants to purchase something for a dollar is unable to do that, because of the policy. Students in college should be free to use their debit or credit card to make purchases, to any amount they desire …show more content…
The El Camino cafe faces two effects if the six dollar minimum policy is not changed. The first effect of this policy is El Camino loses profit. Some students are reluctant to want to abide by the six dollar policy, so they will go elsewhere. El Camino is a college, but it is also a business too. And as a business, the focus, especially as a cafe or bookstore is to make money off of the students. And if El Camino college is not making a certain amount of profit, that could lead to laying off employees, and so on. No one wants to be laid off, but the policy could potentially lead to that if enough students are not buying from the cafe. And that way if a student were to go to the El Camino restaurants, there would be no minimum balance to impose on students. If a student chooses to purchase only one item, then they can without the worry of having to purchase more items. Cal State Long beach has something along the lines of this idea. On their website it did not go into much detail about it. However, the card is an all access pass, so it can be used all over campus. And this card is a student's id that can be reloadable with money. And the machine to withdraw or add money would be located all campus. According to, BankRate Student IDs have been doubling as payment cards on college campuses for decades. El Camino college should implement this idea, because there is no minimum purchase for students and no fee for the El Camino Restaurants, since the card is technically an id and not a credit
