...Reaction paper (El Presidente 2012) “El Presidente” movie brought into life the story of the first president of the Republic of the Philippines, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. It is not a film for all Filipinos but only for those who have high regard to Philippine Independence. If you are Andres Bonifacio fanatic, this is not for you. Members of the Bonifacio clan might be of total outrage right now for the film has put Bonifacio in somewhat a ‘bad light. Directed by Mark Meily, “El Presidente” offers a beautiful journey back to history with great action scenes and cinematography. The lines, in Filipino, Spanish, and English are well-thought. Casting big names in Philippine showbiz like Cesar Montano, Christopher De Leon, Allan Paule, Sid Lucero, and Joko Diaz, among others was a good move as they portrayed their roles excellently. Montano‘s portrayal as Bonifacio is believable and is deserving of his Metro Manila Film Festival Best Supporting Actor award though those who have watched him portrayed Jose Rizal might have a hard time picturing him as Bonifacio. Having comedian Bayani Agbayani in the cast is okay, just that his mustache looks funny. The same goes with the other cast who wear funny looking mustaches. The lead actor, George ‘E.R Ejercito’ Estregan, Jr., portrayed Aguinaldo’s character very well though it is hard to believe that it was really him portraying the lead for the film he produced. There’s nothing wrong with that if it’s just for the sake of arts or even if it...

Barstool's Competitors Analysis

...“internet warfare.” They asked all stoolies to attack Travis on all forms of social media. The barrage of social media attacks was not stopped until Clay Travis was brought to Barstool headquarters to apologize and explain his situation. For the entire history of the website, Barstool and its bloggers have felt extremely protective of their ideas, as well as the culture that they have created in the community surrounding the website. Hernandez-Avila, in addition to many other topics, wrote on the issue of cultural appropriation in the indigenous community of North America. In particular, she discussed how Native Americans have reacted when middle class white people began to participate in a number of their sacred rituals and practices. In reactions, she writes, “Oddly enough, this notion of taking what is indigenous is never characterized as ‘stealing’, or as ‘theft’, or even as disrespectful or outrageous. Imagine people wanting to find out what it ‘feels like’ to take part in the Catholic ceremony of the Eucharist, or to wear the priest’s garments, or the dress and hairstyle of Orthodox jews, because it seems ‘cool’” (Hernandez-Avila 343-344). In other words, there are some people who feel that their spirituality can be gleaned from an amalgamation of religious and cultural ceremonies of different cultures and traditions. This presents problems for some communities whose religious and cultural traditions are nearly one in the same. Hernandez-Avila’s thoughts on cultural appropriation...

...In Other Words This book addresses the need for a systematic approach to the training of translators and provides an explicit syllabus which reflects some of the main intricacies involved in rendering a text from one language into another. It explores the relevance of some of the key areas of modern linguistic theory and illustrates how an understanding of these key areas can guide and inform at least some of the decisions that translators have to make. It draws on insights from current research in such areas as lexical studies, text linguistics and pragmatics to maintain a constant link between language, translation, and the social and cultural environment in which both language and translation operate. In Other Words examines various areas of language, ranging from the meaning of single words and expressions to grammatical categories and cultural contexts. Firmly grounded in modern linguistic theory, the book starts at a simple level and grows in complexity by widening its focus gradually. The author explains with clarity and precision the concepts and theoretical positions explored within each chapter and relates these to authentic examples of translated texts in a variety of languages, although a knowledge of English is all that is required to understand the examples presented. Each chapter ends with a series of practical exercises which provide the translator with an opportunity to test the relevance of the issues discussed. This combination of theoretical discussion and...
