Elizabeth Browning was an author from England who wrote love poems to her husband, Robert Browning who was also a famous writer. She was one of the most prominent English poets of the Victorian era. Her works of poetry are widely popular in England as well as in the United States, and she is greatly admired for her successful works in literature and poetry.
She was born in Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England on March 6, 1806 to Edward Barrett Moulton-Barrett and Mary Graham Clarke. Elizabeth was the eldest of 12 children. There were eight boys and four girls in her family. She was very fortunate to be born into a wealthy family. They owned almost 500 acres of expensive sugar plantations in Jamaica. She developed a lung illness when she was fourteen that required her to take morphine, a drug that had the risk of shortening a person’s life. One year later, when she was fifteen, she suffered a spinal injury while saddling a pony. She overcame these health issues by devoting herself to living a literary life to the fullest. She even taught herself the Hebrew and Greek languages so that she could study the Greek culture and the Old Testament of the Bible..
An important thing that Elizabeth did was to publish the collection “An Essay on Mind and Other Poems.” This was significant because it was the first test in her writing career. After it was released, she faced more obstacles that included the death of her mother and the failure of her father’s business that forced them to move to London. Then, her brother drowned while sailing at sea. Despite all her problems, Elizabeth never gave up writing. She continued to write poetry that included love poems and themes about social
