The intelligence quotient is a score that is measured by one’s chronological and mental age, and then multiplied by 100. The use of this test is to basically determine the I.Q. of an individual, while taking into account their experience because of their age. To determine the mental age of an individual, a test was given that was developed by Alfred Binet. This test was discovered by testing an equal amount of students, that teachers had labeled dull and bright, and giving them all the same test and averaging the results to determine how close to their age they were. This was contributed to the I.Q. exam. The test arranges the chronological age of an individual as the denominator and the mental age as the numerator. This fraction is then multiplied by one hundred, coming up with the intelligence quotient for that individual. With the experimentation of the test, the determination can be made that an individual that has a mental age equal to their chronological age will have an I.Q. of one hundred. It can also be said, that someone with the mental age greater than their chronological age will have an I.Q. over one hundred.
