In Orson Scott Card's science fiction novel Ender's Game, Graff is an essential part of the character development of Ender. While some may consider him to be ruthless and a villain, Graff is a hero because though he acknowledges that providing constant challenge and breaking Ender is cruel, it is what is necessary for the survival of the human race.
