Motor efficiency labelling scheme

What is it?

This is a scheme aimed at emphasising to all motor users, the importance of efficiency. With the backing of the European Commission, manufacturers representing 80% of the European production of standard motors, have agreed to establish three efficiency bands or classes for their standard TEFV, 2 and 4 pole, squirrrel cage induction motors in the power range 1.1 to 90kW. The bands are designated EFF1, EFF2 , and EFF3 - EFF1 being the highest band.

The band must be declared by means of a label on the rating plate and in the catalogue. With all of its WP premium efficiency motors falling within the higher bands, Brook Crompton will, in addition, give greater visibility by means of stickers on the motors By encouraging the use of motors in the higher efficiency ‘band’ EFF1 , the European Commission expects to reduce significantly the consumption of electricity by industry. This in turn will lower the environmentally harmful emissions from power stations.

We use this energy for basically everything that we come in contact with; cell phone chargers, laptops, television, lamps, refrigerators and even your car’s battery. Even though you will always use this energy every day, the amount of the energy can vary. In 12 days we will be turning our clocks for daylight savings, and in this case this is help us save on energy because it will stay daylight out longer so you will not need to turn on the lights so early. ...Personal Energy Use My current energy usage consists of many forms of energy, mainly fossil fuels. In the home I use natural gas for cooking, and electricity for heat, hot water, and appliance usage. There is one other form of energy I use in the home and that is wood, a biofuel, as fuel to burn in the fireplace to help heat the house in the winter. On my way to work I use gasoline, another fossil fuel, as energy for transportation. While at work there is a large amount of energy usage, from powering the computer monitors all the way to supplying the power for ventilators so patients can breathe. My energy needs fluctuate throughout the year, as the summers and winters in Pennsylvania can be at the extremes. My energy usage in the summer is much lower than the winter. I rarely use my central air for cooling in the summer as I find opening the windows or spending time in the basement just as comforting. The days are longer which limits the amount of electricity I use for lighting. I do spend quite a bit of time traveling to the beach in the summer which uses a lot of gasoline. In the winter my energy consumption rises as the temperature drops. Electricity increases as the house needs to be heated and the days grow shorter increasing the light needed. The energy sources I rely on come mainly from fossil fuels, a non-renewable form of energy. ...Rockets use Energy Rockets use and convert energy many times while operating. First of all, energy is the ability to do work or to organize or change matter. That energy is what moves the rocket. But first the energy starts out in the rocket fuel, as chemical potential energy. Potential energy is stored energy that is in an object due to the positioning of its parts. In model rocket engines, the fuel is made out of pressed black powder. The fuel is stored in a cartridge, which gets placed in the bottom of the rocket. Chemical potential energy changes into heat when the engine is ignited, turning the potential energy into kinetic energy which is energy in the form of motion. Heat is kinetic energy because heat is how fast atoms in an object vibrate, which is motion. When the rocket fuel ignites, it expands. When the heat is created, the fuel becomes a gas and expands out the bottom of the rocket. The force pushing down pushes the rocket in the opposite direction, up. Isaac Newton’s 3rd law of motion explains this reaction: “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.” That means that when you push down, you will go up. When the expanding gas pushes the rocket up, the gas loses energy, and the rocket gains kinetic energy. This is because a force that changes an object's motion gives that object energy.
