“Like a Good Neighbor State Farm is there”
More than ninety-five percent of Americans own a car. This also means by law that ninety-five percent of Americans should own car insurance, but unfortunately not everyone does. For eighty-nine years State Farm has used the motto, "Be fair and do the right thing for the customers." Since the 1940s State Farm has been the nation's top auto insurer. It is important for State Farm to showcase, through television commercials, what their company can do for the customers. In 2010, State Farm created their new powerful imaginative "Magic Jingle Parking Lot" commercial to maintain their audience while keeping up with their o competitors.
The commercial I decided to use was the one where three women are walking to the parking lot as they see a dent on one of the girl’s car. The girl that is a costumer made it seem simple and just said “Like a good neighbor state farm is there” and her agent appears immediately. After the other two girls saw this; they wanted to try the same thing. But they requested different type of agents. One of them said “with a hot guy” and a cute appeared. While the other girl exclaimed “Who is also sensitive” and her agent appeared. At the end of this commercial we see that each of the girls ended up with an agent that most fit them. State Farm uses techniques to draw in customers. Compared to other car insurances, State Farm makes themselves seem very appealing. They add incentives for people to buy their car insurance. In this commercial, instead of discrediting other car insurance companies, State Farm just makes themselves look good. In the opening scene of the commercial, the women are complaining about a dent in one of the woman’s car. Typically speaking, most women would be highly upset with a dent being in their car. However, in this commercial, the owner of the car makes it seem like no big deal. To State Farm, accidents are easily fixed. The other factor that State Far Car Insurance Company considers is unpredictability. Customers are constantly changing their mind and they will want and need a car insurance company that will allow them to do that. In the commercial, State Farm shows this capability by having the three women want three different types of "men" or "car insurance agent." The first woman gets the regular suit and tie accountable insurance agent. The second one wants one who is hot and sensitive, while the third woman wants one who is hot and dangerous. When the customers want to change their plan, it is easily done. By portraying these three diverse men, it shows that State Farm is flexible and is willing to work with their customers and do their best to give their customers what they want. In the end, all that matters is that the customer is happy. At the end of the commercial, all three women seem completely satisfied.
Besides making accidents seem like no worry, State Farm shows that they are always there for any of their customers, and they are always efficient. As soon as the woman says, "Like a good neighbor State Farm is there," an insurance agent appears immediately out of nowhere. 24/7 service, nothing beats it. This part of the commercial intrigues the audience even more. People would much rather have an insurance agent who is always there when they need them and someone who is going to be efficient at their job. When the woman smiles afterwards, it shows a sense of customer satisfaction, which is very important when trying to promote a company.
In order to achieve greater customer satisfaction, it is important for company to come across as quick and easy. Again, in this specific commercial, State Farm does exactly that. The first car insurance agent comes quickly enough, but customers wonder if that will happen every time they need assistance. By showing the two other women asking for a car insurance agent, State Farm answers that question. As soon as the other women say the famous jingle, their car insurance agents appear just as quickly. Adding this to the commercial, State Farms shows that no other car insurance company will be as quick and easy as them. State Farm makes it seem as easy as a person saying a short little phrase; as soon as the person finishes that phrase, State Farm is right there. Someone watching this commercial on television will be find this appealing because the wait is so short.
Not only are the attractive actors and actresses, and the quick efficiency appealing, but the fact that State Farm satisfies all requirements is also extremely appealing. State Farm can fulfill any person's wants or needs almost immediately. In the beginning of the commercial, only one of the women is an actual State Farm customer. The other two women ask if they can try. When they do, their needs and wants are also met immediately, even though they "just joined" State Farm. By being a customer with State Farm, all of a person's needs and wants can be accommodated in one place, rather than having their needs and wants scattered across several car insurance companies. It does not matter if a person has been a long time customer, or a person is a new customer, he or she will receive the same type of State Farm quality that every other customer receives.
In this commercial, State Farm's implied audience is females ranging from their early twenties to mid-thirties. At this stage of their lives, women are staring to be more independent. Women are starting to get their own place, starting their own career, and getting a job. Meaning they are ready for some big changes, which could include buying their own car and car insurance and looking for "Mr. Right." State Farm recognizes that fact and incorporates both of those factors into their commercial. They use the power of ethos in order to attract their target audience. It uses a variety of attractive actors instead of old, unattractive, annoying actors, who would definitely dissuade the young generation from buying their car insurance.
However, State Farm also knows that women are not the only ones who shop for car insurance; obviously, men buy it too. Besides using a variety of attractive male actors, State Farm also uses attractive females. In addition to this commercial, State Farm created other similar commercials, which show what a man looks for in a "car insurance agent." This shows that State Farm is interested in acquiring new male customers as well. Being in the car insurance industry for over seventy-five years, State Farm knows that having a large number of female customers will not solely make them successful. Of course, they are going to need a large number of male customers as well. With this in mind, State Farm tries to keep everyone happy; they know that neither men nor women will change the channel when there are attractive people on the screen.
State Farm's "Magic Jingle Parking Lot" the commercial begins with enticing audiences by showing both attractive male and female actors. Then State Farm captivates the audience by showing how quick, easy, and efficient State Farm really is. Even when customers want to change their car insurance plan, State Farm makes it look easy. By the end of the commercial, State Farms expresses the satisfaction of their other customers, which hooks the audience completely. Through this commercial, State Farm wants keep their current customers satisfied. State Farm is like a good neighbor; they are always there.

...The Internet as a Powerful and Empowering Tool A computer in the hands of a conscientious student is a powerful tool that, utilized to its fullest potential, can encourage that student to become a success in his or her studies. Some believe that the use of computers in an educational environment diminishes the quality of material turned in by students; I disagree. There is great potential in accessing the millions of megabytes of data available on the World Wide Web, potential that should not be overlooked. It is incumbent on the educators today to guide their students in the best way to harness the material they find on the internet. “Most of the data my students Net is like trash fish,” says Judith Levine in her article I Surf, Therefore I Am, “and it is hard for them to tell a dead one-legged crab from a healthy sea bass.”(Levine, p.223) I hear her frustration with students who feel that using the information on the computer is the way to an easy passing grade. However, I also can see where a little guidance from her will go a long way toward helping these students sort through and discover the pieces of information that will help them. Students look to their teachers to guide them. Many schools and teachers have not realized that there is a variety of ways students can access information over the internet. ...September 1, 2013 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE CLASSES AND DISTANCE LEARNING Distant learning typically involves you sitting in a classroom while an instructor, via satellite, instructs you’re class or vice versa. You can see them, they can see you. Many online learning is typically for college, you may meet once or twice, but the learning is done through an online server. Usually, you have a book to read, projects to submit electronically and quizzes online to take. So, in my paragraphs, I will describe to you the differences between online classes and distance learning. Honestly, distance learning for me is more accurate than online learning, because you can learn more in a classroom setting. I like to be in a classroom setting because, an instructor can teach you more, and actually break down the work for you step by step. Also, if you need additional help, a teacher is actually there to help you with the work. On the other hand, online classes are actually convent for some people that work. You can do it anywhere, anytime, as long as it is done by the due date. My disadvantage of online learning is that, if I need help with any project, I can’t actually get in touch with my teacher right then. I would have to wait until the teacher contact me. In my conclusion, I would prefer distance learning over online learning. But, for right now, I would have to take online classes due to my own schedule. I like that online classes give me the flexibility to do my homework...

Personally I am very fond of writing. In the childhood I used to write famous inspirational quotes in my diary with meaning. Then after that, life became too busy writing was done only when necessary such as writing application for leaves and doing assignments for my various online courses. Personally, I feel that the online courses have helped me a lot but there are still many areas that I can improve on. While writing an essay, my process is simple. I think about the topic I need to write and then bullet down the main points that I need to write and organize them and frame the essay. The most stressful thing I experience while writing with regards to writing about a particular topic. I have the habit of making it short and simple and sometimes I am able to add words to my essay. Though according to me my essay has all the points, but the lack of words does affect the meaning of the essay. Adding words to the essay is the most stressful part for me. The most rewarding was the essay that I helped me fetch praises from my teacher. I was never a good writer and when you receive praises for things you are not good at, it feels so good. ...Bethany Martinez ENG 101 M. Brown 30 April 2013 Mandatory Financial Counseling Should be Provided to All College Students A growing number of college students today are facing unnecessary hardships upon graduation from college because they lack preparation, and the necessary skills needed to manage their financial circumstances. Lack of knowledge combined with distracting, busy study schedules have led many college students to make poor decisions, leading to costly consequences upon graduation. According to the Project on Student Debt at The Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS) in the college graduate class of 2011, two-thirds had an average of $26,600 in student loan debt upon graduation; at the same time the unemployment rate among new graduates was at 8.8 percent ("Average Student Debt Climbs to $26,600 for Class of 2011"). As a result, thousands of new graduates are forced to face huge amounts of debt on student loans that they cannot pay, immediately after graduating. There has been talk on Capitol Hill about federal loans to help graduates with their debt. Government involvement to fix the problem seems very retroactive considering that universities could and should have taken a more proactive approach. Universities must better prepare their students for the foreseeable financial hardships they could face upon graduation by providing mandatory financial planning counseling to all students. Without proper counseling and direction, it is......

...Running head: Psychoanalytic Therapy Psychoanalytic Therapy Helping Relationships Abstract This paper is an illustration of the psychoanalytic therapy and how therapists utilize in during counseling sessions. It will discuss the ego that balances the id and superego, the right from wrong, in people’s personality. This explanation is divided into four concepts the philosophical, development, structural, and process elements. Philosophical Element Psychoanalytic therapy was developed by Sigmund Freud and he believed humans have a basic desire to avoid pain and increase pleasure in their lives (Bryan, 2007, p. 283). According to Gerald Corey, Freud also believed that human behavior is driven by irrational forces, unconscious motivations, and biological and instinctual drives (2005, p. 56). This theory insists that people strive to reach the most pleasure in life and try to avoid situations/behaviors that remind of them of pain. People will use defense mechanisms as a counterattack causing a person to suppress a traumatic event in their lives; however this could cause problems in their future if something happens that makes the experience to resurface. The two instincts that are pivotal to this theory are life and death. Life (sexual) instincts are the survival tactics people use to gain growth, development, and creativity (Corey, 2005, p. 56). On the other hand, the death instinct is a...

...ESSAY 1 Mike Gaston ENG 101 ENG 101 – C02 – Spring 2015 LUO THESIS: Chores are a beneficial and important factor in the upbringing of children for many reasons. Outline: INTRODUCTION: In the military I have met many people from many walks of life. What I have gathered and witnessed from my encounters were that basic household skills were lacking in some and not others. I found that many of the people I met who were not raised to do chores lacked basic household skills; whereas the people raised to do chores did not. The ones who lacked these household skills were at a disadvantage when it came time to living on their own; having to be taught how to do laundry, cook, and clean at the age of 21 was not only difficult for some, but embarrassing as well. I, as well as my brothers, were raised with the notion that chores were essential. Performing chores as children aided us into our adulthood. Chores helped us become better team players, it fostered a sense of discipline and personal responsibility and an understanding of risk/reward, and it also taught us basic life skills to living and surviving on our own. I still believe that chores are a beneficial and important factor in the upbringing of children in our society today. 1. CHORES AID IN BEING A BETTER TEAM PLAYER a. Chores teach children (siblings) to work as a team to speed up the cleaning process. b. They teach single kids to help the burden of cleaning for the......

Exemplification Essay (Eng 101)

...Exemplification Essay How many times have you heard the saying “It’s not the clothes that makes the person, it’s the person that makes the person?” I know it’s a mouth full. And we’d all like to believe that, right? But unfortunately in today’s society that’s not the case. How you dress is a representation of you. Like a first impression and we all know you only get one. But exactly why does it matter? Why would anyone care about how I dress? Well that’s what where here to find out. In today’s world how you dress is a reflection of you. It defines how people will react or treat you. Possibly even stereotype & judge you. Luckily it all depends on the type of social situation you are in. If you dress appropriately for the right occasion you’ll have nothing to worry about. Let’s use me for an example. I went job hunting for the first time when I was 16. I didn’t know any better. I went to different stores in the mall wearing a pair of ripped up jeans with my American Eagle striped polo shirt and my most favorite pair of black and white low top Chuck Taylors. I felt like I could conquer the world, or at least the mall. I went to the mall around 2pm and left around 5pm with no job applications. I didn’t understand it, every store I went into had a “Now Hiring” sign, but I kept getting turned down. Soon my “conquer the world” attitude disappeared as I took the bus back home. When I got home my grandma asked me how the job search went. When I told her what happened she sat......

...English Composition 1 Diagnostic Test Due: 1/31/12 Cody Evangelous “Black cat, white cat; [Who cares] as long as it catches mice” In life, situations can be looked at and perceived differently, which then leads an individual or a group to decide on the best possible outcome to resolve that situation. The solution is the most important part of the problem and as long as the necessary outcome happens that is all that matters. This is true in the quote above; cats do their job by catching mice, it doesn’t matter what type or what color the cat is. I agree to this to some extent. In certain scenarios it’s not black and white and coming up with one simple solution. Some problems have depth behind them where it’s not just a “cat catching a mice”. More specificity is needed when it comes to in-depth problems. In most case scenarios the quote “Black cat, white cat;[who cares] as long as it catches mice “ applies, but not every scenario. The quote is most evident in when anyone is given a certain task, that person then takes on the responsibility of having to accomplish that task. For example, when a carpenter gets a customer that wants new cabinets in their kitchen. The carpenter then has to complete the requests of the customer, doesn’t matter how he gets the job done, but as long as the cabinets are completed. He could get his five workers to complete the job, or he could do it himself with his two top carpenters. The task is given first and it does not matter how or......
