Week3 – Discussion 1

I found the point of view in the Persuasion is to get others to see things your way or to convince them that there is something that needs to be done or said. To get someone to think like you do. Both Persuasion and Argument are interchangeably, persuasion writing is to convince you to see things their way, and in general, where as argument is a specific type of persuasive that is based on logic and evidence. I found that the tone for Persuasion should be strong emotional appeal. First engage your heart, you can point out others' views that you felt were wrong, but don't attack the one that said it. Emotional appeals have a reasoning behind them, you have to be honest and never misleading. I found the structure for Persuasion writing is to; Have an Introduction, the controversial issue will need to be introduced, you may want to give two side to the controversies, give your opinion on the ideas, and set up your thesis statement. Go on to the body and make at least two paragraphs, take each of your ideas and put down in separate paragraphs why you like these ideas, give statistics, or get someone who is an expert in the field to give you something to go on to support you words. In the conclusion include your thesis statement. You can back up your statements and ideas and propose the readers take some action. Then add in some sense of closer with a strong ending. I found Exposition or Expository writing are used to help explain, analyze, and make sense of the writing. Informative writing a type of expository writing, give readers facts on subjects, like how something works. There are comparison and contrast papers that are two side of the same coin, when you contrast them to show the different. When you contrast them, it will show you the differences. There are different types of organizational arrangement, to compare and make your discussions easer. Then there is the cause and effect writing, it finds what the cause is and the effect. Everyone has a view points on these. I found the tone should be clear spoken, with explained meaning, no emotion, these writing are usually about a serious subject, and full of details, they can get boring, you can spice it up with some colorful words. The structure of these exposition and expository, starts with a thesis. The thesis is to be strong, keep your ideas in focus. I found on the body if you keep things in chronological order, this way the steps are formed and the readers will find it is easier to follow the writing. Signal words are useful to help write presentation material. Share information from articles and things you have read. Try to have three paragraphs and at least three main ideas. Don't forget the chronological order, this happened first...then this happened second... finally, the main article or idea. These exposition flow smooth, incorporate the thesis, and starting at the being and flowing to the end.

I found that Personal writing share a personal ideas and life challenges. You will have a personal perspective with your writing, you can express yourself more freely and you don't have to write formally. There are other reasons for personal writing; to tell a story, share personal experiences, personal interpretation of an event, personal feelings and opinions on a subject and entertain or provoke the audience. There are ways to tell if your assignment is personal, opinion paper, reflective paper, response papers and these papers can get into argument and exposition writing conventions.
The tone is written less formal, and it can have a conversational tone. Personal papers might also include dialogue, and writing for academic audience.
The structure of the personal writing is starts at the beginning and goes to the end. To get everyone's' attention. Start with a real eye catching thesis. If you start storytelling, you will have a narration and then you can write the story about something else or your own personal story. When crating the thesis make sure it has a good title and a clear point to start with. Make sure the main idea and significance

of the story. Create a plot, get the people interested. You can use abstract words like freedom, peace love and success, these are not physical at all. Concrete words are people places things, we can hear, see, touch, smell, and taste.
I found the tone was not so formal or conversational tone. These tones have guide lines to follow also, the language must be proper. Sharing your point on a subject. Tell story about a person form different part of the world.
The structure is in chronological order of events. You will need to have about 5 pages if it is this is a narrated story. Tell your idea of the story, bring points of interest and think about the audience and keeping their attention. Make up a thesis to go with the story. Keep with the purpose of the story from the beginning and work all the way to the end, develop plot. Let the reader stay interested in the writing until the end. Make up your paragraphs, then on to the conclusion. Bring the thesis back into the story and The End.
