The movie the wizard of Oz is known as one of the most known movies in America for showing a real interesting storyline. The little girls end up in a beautiful nonrealistic world. This movie is known for its storyline but while watching the movie I have found many different types of themes. One of the themes I have noticed is a very simple that your dreams can come true. I realized this theme do to many factors in this storyline. All throughout the whole movie Dorthy, tin man, lion, and the scarecrow had set their goals to get to the wizard.
Unable to get into the storm cellar in time, she runs to her room for safety. Dorothy is hit in the head by a broken window pane and becomes knocked out on her bed. She wakes up to discover the farm house is being carried aloft by the twister. As she looks out a window to watch the storm, she sees Miss Gulch also caught up inside, while simply pedaling her bicycle. To her horror, Gulch transforms before Dorothy's eyes into a cackling wicked witch on a broomstick.
The farm house crash lands in the Technicolor world of Oz in Munchkin Land. Dorothy is greeted by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and the Munchkins, who treat her like a heroine, because her house has killed the Wicked Witch of the East. Her sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, arrives. As she is about to claim the magic ruby slippers from her sister's feet, Glinda transfers them to Dorothy's feet instead. The Witch of the West swears revenge on her (and Toto). Glinda tells Dorothy to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, where the Wizard of Oz might be able to help her get back home. The Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation released their three-color Technicolor technology (Piccirillo). The color process required a special camera

...User Manual Critique ENG221 As our society grows more into a consumer based culture we are bombarded with new products every year and innovations in technology that can enrich our lives. However, with new products and new technology there is a need to learn how to use the new product. User manuals are an invaluable source of knowledge on how to use any product but some are better than others. A good user manual should be judged on its readability (not having huge blocks of text, complicated words etc.), it’s ability to be navigated easily, good use of visual aids and diagrams, rationally structured (simple ideas to complicated concepts) and to contain quality information. The guide I chose to examine is the user manual for the Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone. This user manual is very good and meets most, if not all, of the criteria to be an exceptional example of what a good user manual should be. The manual is structured in a very reasonable way. It starts off as if you had just purchased the phone and are setting it up for the first time. What the buttons do, how to install new items like a sim card, memory or battery. It then transitions into how to care for the phone, charge it, turn it on and off etc. It contains a comprehensive list of symbols that may appear on your phone and what they mean. Then it goes into how to use the more advanced features of the phone. So the manuals structure is very easy to use and follows a logical progression. The manual provides...

...to: John Doe manager from: Jim Doe subject: Teleconference software comparison and review date: August 16, 2011 Web Confrence Software review and comparison Per your request I have reviewed several teleconference software options that would allow us the flexibility of holding our mandatory weekly status meetings from our home office offering rather than travelling to a meeting or using a telephone to communicate only verbally. In review of the software, several factors were taken into consideration, this being: 1. Software expense 2. Support availability 3. Functionality 4. Performance 5. Ergonomics 6. User review There are 3 major software vendors offering a very affordable solution for our needs at each site. With each site purchasing and using the same software, compatibility will not be an issue. Each of the pieces of software selected will offer the ability to record the meetings, allow a presenter mode that will allow individuals to control and lead sessions by having the ability to mute and offer public and private chat and allow enough connections to accommodate a meeting of the whole company if necessary. The table below contains the software name, cost and website to review and reference each product. Eng221 Week 2 Web Memo

...Memorandum Date: March 5, 2012 To: Management From: Subject: Web Conferencing Programs The purpose of this memo is to inform you of the about the different web conferencing programs available to our company. Web conferencing is a great tool we can use to have those weekly status meetings. We will be able to bring our offsite teams on board and connect with them at any time. These programs will potentially save time and money while bringing the department together. I have researched 5 of the best companies and found that though they are similar in services you can see some differences if you if you look for key points. The five programs I choose were Cisco WebEx, Fuze Meeting, GoToMeeting, Infinite Conferencing and InterCall. As shown below (table 1) most common features are shared by all but Fuze Meeting did not have the capacity to use VOI P or have video or webcam features and CISCO WebEx was not capable of recording the meetings. While GoToMeeting and Infinite Conferencing have all the features the max number of attendees either exceeded or did not meet our business needs. This is the reason I choose InterCall. This program has a total of 124 number of max attendees. We can definitely expand with this program and secure a smart web conferencing tool for future use. Web-Based User Manual

...Web-Based User Manuals Shawn Craig ENG221 November 2, 2011 Dr. Yvette Irizarry Web-Based User Manuals Web-based user manuals are becoming more popular as manufacturers find it more cost effective to put their products manuals on the Internet. Printed manuals will still be available with the products but only provide essential information. Web-based user manuals provide in-depth information and include better visuals of the product. Many of the web-based manuals also offer interactivity, allowing the consumer to understand the product better. According to (Gerson & Gerson, n.d.) the techniques used for developing an effective, interactive, and web-based user manual are similar to writing a paper manual. Audience recognition, development, conciseness, consistency, ease of use, and document design are part of the process. The differences interactive web-based manuals must include are better visuals, interactivity, and more information. Adding product pictures in place of drawings gives the manual an improved look. Adding clickable tabs and links helps the user navigate the manual more efficiently. Online user manuals can also provide the consumer with more information about the product than a paper manual. Many products are too small, and the packaging may not provide enough room for an effective user manual. By providing a user manual online, all important information can be addressed without the constraint of space. These differences add to...

Week 2 Memo

...Option 2: Memo Evaluation By Lynda Jenkins ENG221 Option 2: Memo Evaluation The memo I will be evaluating is one from my place of work. The company is called Gamwell Technologies Inc. It was in regards to a program call Auto task that we were going to start using online and our boss just explains how to use it and our logins. The tone of this memo is very direct and straight forward. He always gets straight to the point in any subject, because if he doesn’t the guys will be asking a lot of questions. I think the writing style would be technical because he is explaining how to get to the site, what we use to log in and if a link on how to use the site. We cannot do anything else besides what is written or we would not be in the right site. So I think it is technical writing because in the memo he includes the user guide and the process on how to get to and onto the site. And of course at the end lets us know there is going to be a company meeting on this and wants us to write down any questions we might have after going onto the site. I thought it was straight forward and to the point I would not change anything about this memo. Even though I know that maybe he could have gone into more detail with the site and explained what its purpose was for the company instead of us logging on and finding out ourselves. Basically we were going to switch our ticketing system to this site, but we never did in the end. We all had the meeting and it was going...

Evaluation

...Week 2 Assignment: Memorandum Evaluation ENG221 5 March 2015 After reviewing the memorandum, sent by Mr. McCauley, I was baffled. The acronym, “HR”, in the memorandum heading, was not clarified. After reading the second paragraph, it was assumed that it meant “Human Resources”. The acronym, “COO”, was also not explained, for I could only assume that it meant “Chief Operations Officer”, and was not referring to Mr. McCauley’s state of sanity. In the message body, though the memorandum is responding to the Service Request RM004, the service request, even if briefly, was not explained. The disparate tools used were not explained in how they were different, nor did it reveal who used them. The second paragraph, beginning with, “I look forward to moving…,” should have been the last paragraph in concluding the memorandum. The jargon “state-of-the-art” would not be a proper description, in a professional memorandum, of the technology being integrated. A good replacement word, for that phrase, would have been, “advanced”. In the third paragraph of the memorandum body, the tone appears demanding and, within the first sentence, threatening. Though a project plan may be a requirement, it could have been stated in a different format. I would have written the following: “In order for the funding of the integration project can be allocated, a detailed written report will be required containing the following: a list of all the tasks, resources, schedule, and budget requirements. This...
