1) How is it that you could let a women dominate you to the point where you’re her human rag doll? Do you think your wife really felt responsible or was she just worried about getting blood on the carpet?

Oh stupid commoner, would it not be clear to the mind that she was never controlling me rather giving thy advice. Even if it were not to be the clearest idea, I king Macbeth will have taken all the credit soon becoming the greatest ruler to ever rule Scotland, yes at first I was a little bit nervous but after “I got the carpet bloody” it was not hard to go back. Lady Macbeth is loyal and very smart, when it comes to devious plans; that's exactly why we were meant to be, god has put us here to rule all of Scotland. Last I recall after the death of Duncan, Lady Macbeth gave me great advice “Look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under’t” (1.5.3). So don’t ask me such ridiculous questions, or you and Duncan will visit each other very soon.

2) What would you do differently to make sure you stayed King thus creating a positive outcome?
Peasant, you clearly must be blind to the fact that thee King Macbeth killed almost every important figure in a matter of weeks. Oh but enough speak of my cleverness, talent and ability to take power; let’s talk about how I could have remained King longer. One thing that could have gone different was kill Macduff instantly as well as Malcolm. As well kill Fleance, because I’d rather my children have power than anyone else. But one thing I would do is have King Duncan’s death come much easier because at first my thoughts were, “I'll go no more. I am afraid to think what I have done, look on't again I dare not."(2.2.3) But other than that I have no regrets and I do not care because I already lost hope for myself and the only thing keeping my spirits up is the King of Scotland. 3) Did your acts reflect what you really

Macbeth Drama Review

...Dramatic Review of Macbeth The Classical Theatre Project’s rendition of the “cursed” play is simply brilliant. In this professional production presented at the distinguished Winter Garden Theatre, Director Charles Roy delves into Macbeth through the viewpoint of modern military regimes. While each director will view Macbeth with different perspectives, Roy does an outstanding job by transforming Macbeth from a friendly hero to a Stalinesque tyrant. It is clear that the entire ensemble cast had created a production that was true to Shakespeare’s intent, true to their characters and true to our modern times. Having watched several renditions of Macbeth in the past, I was certainly surprised when I found myself thoroughly engaged and intrigued throughout out the entire show. Opposed to other performances, I found the this play to be exceptionally well executed because of the well trained actors, unique sets, gorgeous costumes, stunning special effects and the brilliant modernization of the play. One of the many things I specifically enjoyed was that the Witches were portrayed as nurses to fit into the modern military regime. I really enjoyed the first act in the beginning scenes when the Witches told the prophecy to Macbeth and Banquo because of how Roy added a touch of humour to that part lifting the "darkness" that typically clouds the play. One part I did not like however was the fact that the witches seemed to be not evil or mysterious unlike the text where the witches...

REED, PH.D., UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, EMERITUS and UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, RETIRED A Teacher’s Guide to the Signet Classic Edition of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth 2 INTRODUCTION William Shakespeare developed many stories into excellent dramatizations for the Elizabethan stage. Shakespeare knew how to entertain and involve an audience with fast-paced plots, creative imagery, and multi-faceted characters. Macbeth is an action-packed, psychological thriller that has not lost its impact in nearly four hundred years. The politically ambitious character of Macbeth is as timely today as he was to Shakespeare's audience. Mary McCarthy says in her essay about Macbeth, "It is a troubling thought that Macbeth, of all Shakespeare's characters, should seem the most 'modern,' the only one you could transpose into contemporary battle dress or a sport shirt and slacks." (Signet Classic Macbeth) Audiences today quickly become interested in the plot of a blindly ambitious general with a strong-willed wife who must try to cope with the guilt engendered by their murder of an innocent king in order to further their power. The elements of superstition, ghosts, and witchcraft, though more readily a part of everyday life for the Renaissance audience, remain intriguing to modern teenagers. The action-packed...

...Lady Macbeth is a character in Shakespeare's Macbeth (c.1603–1607). She is the wife to the play's protagonist, Macbeth, a Scottish nobleman. After goading him into committing regicide, she becomes Queen of Scotland, but later suffers pangs of guilt for her part in the crime. She dies off-stage in the last act, an apparent suicide. According to some genealogists, Lady Macbeth and Duncan's wife were sisters or cousins, where Lady Macbeth had a stronger claim to the throne then Duncan's wife. It was this that incited her jealousy and hatred of Duncan. The character's origins lie of the accounts of Kings Duff and Duncan in Holinshed's Chronicles (1587), a history of Britain familiar to Shakespeare. Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth appears to be a composite of two separate and distinct personages in Holinshed's work: Donwald's nagging, murderous wife in the account of King Duff, and Macbeth's ambitious wife Gruoch of Scotland in the account of King Duncan. Lady Macbeth is a powerful presence in the play, most notably in the first two acts. Following the murder of King Duncan, however, her role in the plot diminishes. She becomes an uninvolved spectator to Macbeth's plotting, and a nervous hostess at a banquet dominated by her husband's hallucinations. Her fifth act sleepwalking scene is a turning point in the play, and her line, "Out, damned spot!," has become a phrase familiar to many speakers of the English language. The report of her death late in the fifth act provides the inspiration...

Power in Macbeth

...reality is the fact that it is the main cause of corruption in the world and is often taken advantage of. In William Shakespeare’s work entitled Macbeth, the lust for and corruption by power is clearly portrayed specifically through Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth. Firstly, the play commences with King Duncan and Macduff socializing about ‘the good and hardy soldier’ Macbeth, who at that point in time is brave and gallant warrior who exhibits loyalty and devotion towards his King. Macbeth and Banquo cross paths with the witches who proceed to prophesize Macbeth’s future, labelling him as the future King of Scotland. This immediately grabs Macbeth’s attention and is the driving force behind the alteration of his mind and wellbeing and he ponders what needs to be done to fulfill such a prophecy to become of a high power. Secondly, it is clear that Macbeth deals with the concept of power within his personal relationship with his wife. Lady Macbeth can be viewed as a sinister figure in the sense that she subdues her feminine qualities to express her dark emotions. The more infatuated Macbeth is with his wife, the stronger her power is “Come, you spirits; That tend on mortal thoughts! Unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty. . .” (1.5, 40-43) Her power is exercised through the manipulation of Macbeth – she formulates the plan for her husband to murder Duncan as a result of her greedy desire to become...

...Languages Program Literature and Theory Professor Gomez Julian Andres Ospina Correa The Tragedy of Macbeth: the thirsty for power In history, a vast majority of tragedies have been written causing excitement and other effects on the reader. Indeed, William Shakespeare and his work The Tragedy Macbeth is not the exception, on the contrary, great value and critics unfolded from this work. Macbeth opened up several ways for tragedy within the literature world, forasmuch as the high quality of its elements, such as its plot, thought, character, diction, and so. Hereafter, I will proceed to go beyond the lines and leave my analysis of the most relevant elements of the magnificent tragedy of Macbeth by the master William Shakespeare. Thrilling from beginning to end is how I perceive The Tragedy of Macbeth as in its plot, which I am going to analyze right after, some important moments take place which makes this tragedy brilliant upon the reader’s eyes. The story is developed during the eleventh century in Scotland lands of which Macbeth looked after as the thane, although some parts of the story take place in England. Some of the most important characters within this tragedy are Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, the three witches, Duncan, Banquo, Fleance, Malcolm, MacDuff, the three murderers, among others of minor relevance. Macbeth and Macbeth Retold

...Macbeth vs. Macbeth Retold Most people believe that books are absolutely better than movies because movies have a tendency to be incomplete, either from lack of important details or from different interpretations and setting, but Macbeth retold has proven that it is one to watch, not only does it have great actors and a stupendous storyline, it has also stayed fateful to the context of tragedy that makes Macbeth a true literary work. The British Broadcasting Company’s Macbeth Retold, directed by Mark Brozel, is truly an amazing film because of it stunning cinematography and plot, with actors like James McAvoy (Joe Macbeth), Keeley Hawes (Ella Macbeth), Joseph Millson (Billy or Banquo), Vincent Regan (Duncan), Richard Armitage (Peter Macduff) and Toby Keebel (Malcolm). Together with its faithfulness to Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the tragedy that is shown, Macbeth Retold is truly a great adaptation of its original book. Although the original book, Macbeth, and its modern adaptation, Macbeth Retold, have some similarities, their differences are still quite evident, such as the language that is used, the setting and the characters. Macbeth and Macbeth Retold both exhibit how greed and a hunger for power can destroy a person’s kindness and righteousness. Macbeth Retold is a truly tragic story set in modern Scotland. Joe Macbeth is the head chef of a famous restaurant known for its delicious and mouthwatering food, along side his wife, Ella Macbeth, who is the manager and...

The Three Character Traits of Macbeth

...Joel Johnson English IV – Period 1 Mr. Brunson 02/21/2013 Lady Macbeth: A Monstrous Feminine In classic literature, women traditionally have been characterized as the “weaker vessel”, meaning that because they possess feminine qualities, they are weaker than men; however, this does not appear to be the case with Lady Macbeth. At the first glimpse of Lady Macbeth, she is a character of deep mystery and unknown motivations. These motivations manifest themselves into a sort of sexual lust for power, which gives her the image of having strong, raw power. Yet this strong, powerful image transforms into a weak woman with no self-control. Upon receiving her husband’s letter about the witches’ prophesies, she attempts to be like a man in order to exude the strength needed to gain additional social status as royalty. This can be seen when she says, “The raven himself is hoarse that croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements. Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe topful of direst cruelty!” (Macbeth 1.5. 38-43). She isn't sure there's enough manhood to go around between herself and her husband, so she calls upon scheming spirits to "unsex me here." This is her vivid way of asking to be stripped of feminine weakness and invested with masculine resolve. She imagines herself as a vessel which may be emptied out and refilled "from the crown to the toe." Lady Macbeth simply insults her husband to make him do what...

Macbeth Synopsis

...great love for their homeland and a great sadness for losing it to the tyrant, Macbeth. Macduff is sad about the death of his child and wife and the fact that he was not there to protect them. Macduff is sad that their last breath and thoughts were of him as a fugitive in hiding, thus making him long for revenge against Macbeth. Scene 2 is in the same location, at the sound of drums Malcolm enters leading a larger number of English soldiers. The chorus points out that the trees are Birnam Wood. Malcolm informs the chorus that every man should break off a branch of Birnam wood to conceal himself, thus tying into the prophecy that “you will be glorious and invincible until you see Birnam Wood.” Malcolm calls on vengeance to Macduff, but Macduff claims he cannot have it as Macbeth has no children. Everyone joins in to recite lines about winning back their oppressed homeland. Scene three is at night in a hall in Macbeth’s Castle, a doctor and Lady Macbeth’s gentlewoman wait for Lady Macbeth to sleepwalk again. Biblical Allusions In Macbeth

...Sarah Powell Mr. Carter English 4 2/24/17 Macbeth Macbeth is a story of a hero turned villain. It explores the cause and effect of sin, outlining the downfall of an ambitious, prideful man whose strong commitment to evil destroys him and his kingdom. The Bible has multiple historical stories that parallel to the story of Macbeth. Macbeth multiplies his sin by attempting to kill the man he fears will inherit the throne after him: Banquo and his son, Fleance. This event recalls another Biblical story, one that corresponds to the story of Adam: the story of Israel's first king, Saul. The link between the story of Adam and Saul lies on the surface for an advanced reader of the Bible. Every new leader is an Adam in some sense. For example, in the book of Genesis, Noah and Abraham are identified as new Adams through repetition of instruction given to Adam in their stories. This Adam theme that was defined clearly in Noah and Abraham becomes an undertone for the rest of Scripture. It finds it's ultimate fulfillment in Christ, the last Adam. However, Saul, the first king of Israel, can be seen only in the new Adam framework. Shakespeare noticing the relationship between Saul and Adam is seen both in subtle and explicit allusions to the story of Saul. An example of an...

Macbeth

...Synopsis Macbeth is a play about a Scottish nobleman who learns, from a prophecy given to him by three witches, that he is to become king. When Macbeth's ambition overcomes his moral judgement, he assassinates the reigning king and fulfils the prophecy. In doing so, however, he undermines his own rule with insecurity - insecurity he created when he upset the natural succession to the throne. Beheaded in battle, Macbeth's death allows the rightful heir to reclaim the throne and order is restored. Historical background The play is set in Scotland and the characters' names, including Duncan, Macbeth, Malcolm and Siward, are based on the names of real 11th century British figures. Although Duncan and Macbeth were both kings in life as in the play, Shakespeare did not directly base his narrative on fact, but instead used historical events as a frame for the action in the play. The real Macbeth, ruler of the Moray region of Scotland, was elected to the Scottish throne when the previous king, Duncan, died in battle. Whether Macbeth killed Duncan in the battle remains unknown. Historical opinions suggest that Macbeth was a charitable king who brought peace and prosperity to Scotland during his reign of 17 years. During this time, he made advances into northern England, which displeased Siward, Earl of Northumberland. Siward then campaigned to depose Macbeth and reinstate Malcolm Canmore, Duncan's son. Malcolm eventually beheaded Macbeth in a duel at Lumphanan to become Malcolm...

Macbeth

...In the play, The Tragedy of Macbeth, William Shakespeare develops the theme of hunger for power through the use of irony, foreshadowing, and symbolism. Shakespeare ultimately proves that hunger for power can mislead a person from situations and turn good intentions, to bad intentions all because of there blind lust. Power, as grand as it may be, can always be misleading. William Shakespeare, often called the English national poet, is widely considered the greatest dramatist of all time. Known throughout the world, the works of William Shakespeare have been performed, taught, and studied for more than 400 years. William Shakespeare was born in 1564 to a successful middle-class glove maker in Stratford Upon-Avon, and created the play “Macbeth” in 1606. In 1582 William at the age of 18, married an older woman named Anne Hathaway. They had three children, Susanna, Hamnet and Juliet. Their only son Hamnet died aged just 11. By the early Seventeenth Century, Shakespeare had begun to write plays in the genre of tragedy. These plays, such as Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth and King Lear, often hinge on some fatal flaw in the lead character, and provide intriguing insights into the darker aspects of human nature. You can now see where this comes into play in other situations Macbeth is a play of contradiction and ambition. Macbeth, a well-known war general driven to become King, killed not only King Duncan to receive his kingship, but also all the heirs to the thrown which happened...

Similarities Between Tragic Heroes

...There are two main similarities between tragic heroes of the plays, Macbeth and Oedipus the King. In these plays, to stage a downfall of the heroes, the heroes are equipped with blindness and flaws. As to other similarities between the heroes of these two plays, Oedipus and Macbeth are both approached by a kind of seer and told of the things to pass. They both committed regicide and they both gained the throne by committing this crime even though the motive differs. Blindness, in other words the hero’s inability to understand his foreknown fate, is one of the main similarities between the two tragic heroes, Oedipus and Macbeth. In the case of Oedipus, blindness first shows itself in the case of regicide. In the plot, after Oedipus is told by a seer that he was going to kill his father, he tries to avoid his fate by running away but when he is confronted by a difficult situation he chooses to kill. This proves that he kills even though he knew he was going to kill his father. He is blinded to his fate although it is revealed to him. On the other hand, Macbeth’s blindness shows itself in the case of Macduff. Macbeth is foretold that he needs to beware of Macduff, he is incapable of being harmed by any man born of woman, and he will be safe until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane Castle. Macbeth, even though, knows all these prophecies kills Macduff’s family because of insecurity and startles Macduff. In the battle English army shielded with boughs cut from Birnam Wood and Macduff advances...
