Introduction:
For Haiti, the year 2010 started with a violent disaster. It was just another Tuesday in Port-au-Prince. Then, as the clocks nudged 4.53pm, the earth shook with a magnitude of 7.0 it was recorded to be the biggest urban disaster in the modern history. At 4:53 p.m., Haiti changed forever. Haiti became a massive horror story played out on the world stage.

Environment:
In just about 30 seconds the buildings in Haiti fell one after another. Poverty played its role, in places such as Haiti, where 72% of the population live on less than $2 a day, and in cities like Port-au-Prince, were many houses and buildings were in very poor condition, and were not designed or constructed to be earthquake resistant, the destruction is also expected to be greater.

Inhabitants:
Haiti left around 230,000 dead, 300,000 injured and 1.2 million homeless in just 30 seconds. Imagine how many people were killed in just 30 seconds which is the amount of time it usually takes a person to get themselves a glass of water.

Short Term:
Could you imagine that one in every 15 people died. In Haiti, in a big city like Port-au-Prince, with so many structures coming down, more rubble will kill more people. It is estimated that about 211 people were rescued. Imagine, 16, 588 people could have been rescued yet only, one in every 16,588 people were rescued.

Long Term:
One of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere Haiti already had severely limited resources before the earthquake caused large-scale damage to existing infrastructure, hospitals, and other health facilities. In the long-term, Haiti faced outbreaks of diarrheal diseases such as e. coli and cholera due to lack of clean drinking water and health-care options.

Recovery:
It has been almost three years since the earthquake struck Haiti, yet till today Haiti looks like the earthquake happened just months ago. Haiti's recent earthquake is the most destructive natural disaster that a single country has experienced, by some measures; it may have caused much more than $13.2 billion in damage. By January 2012 rubble remains lying on the streets of Haiti. Till today they are putting so much effort in reviving the country.

Power of environments:
Most of the time natural disasters are unpredictable, and they are definitely out of our control. Earthquakes are impossible to run away from. Natural disasters can have both negative and positive consequences. Looking back in history you would notice that many great natural disasters were a reason for a huge positive change. As for Haiti, there were lots of negatives coming from that disaster, such as, death, injuries, and people left homeless. Yet looking on the positive side, after the Haiti earthquake stroke Haiti was finally noticed and people all around collaborated to help. Now the buildings that are being built in Haiti are stronger and will most probably be able withstand the terrible earthquakes.

How humanity accommodates their environment and adapts to it:
Disasters impact the environment causing it to change. Therefore people are forced into adapting their new environment. After disasters people work together in order to restore the country. In this way humanity accommodate their environment and adapt to it.

Japan was hit by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded on March 11. The magnitude-9.0 quake spawned a deadly tsunami that slammed into the small island nation, leaving a huge swath of devastation in its wake.
