People say they don’t judge, but the first thing they notice is appearance. People say they don’t eavesdrop, but in seconds a rumour is spread out. People say they’ve changed, when there still stuck in a moment of identity crisis. but what are people to judge for, when they feel the same as what others criticize them to be.
That’s what im going through, a phase or series of my drastic identity crisis.
‘ding’, I woke up. The tiniest alert made my eyes reopen, to a blurred view of the outside world. The everyday people, cars and routines that make me realise how boring the world is, nothing to look forward to and nothing that triggers the happiness of life. I turn to face the few people on the bus, it amuses me what things people are interested in, even the one guy playing around with his chewing gum like it was play-doh. I laughed to my own thought of me doing such a thing. I eased back into the seat, trying to find a comfortable spot which didn’t seem to exist for the worthy price I paid, $50. I couldn’t complain much I mean the guy next to me seemed to be irritated, to the point where his whole scarf covered his face.
I didn’t mention it did I, I wasn’t escaping to find the true me that would be too cliché, im more like discovering through a process which will determine my identity. I was heading towards Mystic Falls, a town of mystery and tonnes of ancient history which is still relived and spoken about today.
“ next stop mystic falls” the bus driver yelled.
This was it, i jumped out of my seat and to my luck coffee spilt all over the passenger infront of me, his clothes, hair and part of his face. Did I mention that I had terrible

Year 11 English Short Story

...“Morgiana did you see Hakuryuu?” Alibaba had asked the fanalis girl. You could tell by the way she looked something was bothering her, something had to have happened between her and the Kou prince. Before you could make a move to try to comfort the girl she spoke softly. “..Hakuryu..” she started seemingly trying to put the words together, “..Departed from the city already and is heading alone to the Tenzan plateau.” Glancing at your two male companions it was clear the two were surprised by this news. Of course you were as well, though Alibaba had seemed to take it the worse. Aladdin then continued to question Morgiana about it as Alibaba’s body began to shake a little. All three of you were surprised when he started to walk off towards where Hakuryuu had been heading, saying he needed to talk to the other prince. You tilted your head to one side as he spoke of someone named Cassim, you had only met the trio as well as Hakuryuu when they arrived in Sindria. The air around the former prince of Balbadd had changed. Aladdin and Morgiana must have felt it too as they then began to try to calm him down, while you, the newest member of the group watched on. If you felt you knew how you would have also been trying to calm him down.Morgiana had then grabbed the blond and begged him not to go, this act alone seemed to calm Alibaba down. Aladdin then asked if it was okay for him to go instead, to which the fanalis girl didn’t object. “Aladdin please let me go too,” you said as...

English Story Paper

...10/28/12 English In the story “Girl” there is a variety of things being said and it is easy to tell this is a mother, daughter relationship going on. I say that because most of things being said by the mother are things that usually only a mother would tell her daughter. The speaker in the story is the mother and the listener in the story is the daughter. In the story the mother is giving plenty of advice and telling the daughter what is appropriate and what is not. I can tell that all the information the mother was giving was too much for the daughter to take in because the daughter did not really say much at all while the mother was lecturing her. The life being described in the story “Girl” is really loose and care free which is why the mother is being strict on the daughter. The location is important because that is where most of the things that the mother is warning the daughter about are happening. I somewhat sensed that about the location in the story when the mother said “On Sunday try to walk like a lady and not like the slut you are so bent on becoming”. This quote showed me that there is something that the mother does not want the daughter to experience in that location. The advice the mother is giving in the story “Girl” is strict and controlling. The mother is not suggesting that the daughter take the advice, she is actually demanding that the daughter listen to her and take the advice than suggesting that she do so. An example would be when the mother says “Wash...

...English Homework. 19/2/14 During times of great hardship and sadness throughout the U.K, there lived a young 9 year old boy named AJ. He had a rough childhood, growing up on the streets of a depressing and crime-ridden council estate in South London, only having his mother and older sister to take care of him (since unfortunately his father was a victim to a seemingly normal gang murder, with 5 members of the notorious crew named ‘Terror Squad’ being the identified suspects of a reported vengeance attack. After it was confirmed that AJ’ father owed the crew’s kingpin leader £10,000 after losing a bet, in which he fled and tried to evade not paying. But time finally caught up with him and he’s now gone.) However, AJ’ sister (a couple of years later) left the still grieve-stricken family in order to head to university in York and pursue her dreams of becoming a successful nurse for hospitals not just in England but around the world. All in order to hopefully enough gain money to send to her beloved family and rescue them from further painful and suffering times laying ahead of them at the hands of cold-hearted criminals in the rough council estate known as Trey Lane. ...The Ministry of Magic denies the existence of extraterrestrial life. It is this “conspiracy”, to which we have devoted our lives to uncovering. Discrepancies are paradoxical and the only thing to trust is magic, when reasoning fails. Though the pitch is littered with skeptics, we still remain dedicated to the search; the fact is however, much is unknown and there are obstacles at every turn. A larger scheme is at work, and maybe not those from other worlds, but someone amongst us. Nevertheless, the truth is out there. The room was dark, filled with unease. A chilled tension that Malfoy couldn’t help but feel in his skin, a sense of foreboding. Curtains drawn painfully shut, casting only menacing slits of light into the office. Silhouettes of assembly danced behind the desk, but only a red butt of light was to be seen as he was seated into the only available chair. As to which side was more apprehensive for the meeting remained to be seen. After the war the strain between relations had lessoned but that Death Eater stigma still remained. The harsh lighting wasn’t assisting the matter either, casting dark shadows and sharp flittering light about the space, highlighting the dark mark on his pale arm. He’d stopped hiding it at this point, what was the use? Everyone one knew what he’d done and trying to deny that would seem cowardly. No. Let them look. A desk lamp adorned the cherry stained desk, the only concentrated source of light, making this meeting feel more as if an...

English Short Story Essay

...Married Woman’s Complex In 2012, the University of Chicago conducted a “well being” study and it was found that 97% of married people are “happily married”. If this study were conducted a century ago, 97% probably would have reported being unhappy in their marriage, the majority being women. These dutiful wives and repressed mothers were not allowed any personal or intellectual freedom. These oppressed, married women are the types of characters feminist author, Kate Chopin, revels in. During the production of “Kate Chopin: A Re-Awakening” at Emory University, Elizabeth Fox-Genovese said Chopin was “nonetheless a woman who took women extremely seriously, she never doubted women’s ability to be strong.” The characters in Chopin’s short stories’, “The Story of An Hour” and “The Storm”, are unfulfilled and desire more in their marriage. They have no validation in life and may have husbands that love and provide for them yet they are still unhappy. They are all invested in their marriages and families yet at some point realize that they ultimately yearn for a single and free life. Louisa Mallard ironically felt more liberated when she learned of her husband’s death and Calixta and Clarisse are involved with the same man yet want different things from him. In such few words, Kate Chopin is able to illustrate the oppressiveness women of the late 1800s felt in their marriages. Louisa felt more obligations in her marriage than love. Chopin describes her as, “young, with a fair, calm face...

...families move to a new country, they are often confronted with a new culture. For the grown-ups this can be exciting to meet a new alternative world other than the one they are used to. But the children on the other hand, often experience the upheaval to be much harder than their parents. Where the parents have a strong anchorage in their old culture and religion, the children have not learnt much about their culture and their religion, which makes it more likely for them to be manipulated. When they are growing up in a society which teaches them one culture with one set of norms and at home they learn another where they have to behave and appear different. This is what the story pictures is about: The story is written by a Pakistani woman; Rahina Khan, and it takes place in the 50’s in a town in England. The story is about the girl Amina. Amina goes to a school where there appears to be mostly British students. This conclusion comes from the fact that they draw pictures from the Christian bible, and that the teacher does not know that Amina is not allowed to draw pictures from the bible. Amina is a young Muslim girl. A guess is that she is around eight years old, based on the facts that she does not know that she is not allowed to draw the Jesus child and they apparently spend a lot of time drawing in her school, so she is probably going in 2’nd grade or so. Amina lives with both her parents in the back room of their shop, where she spends most of her time alone with...

House on Mango Street

...Tiffany Scott English 1020 Dr. Hall 5/10/2015 The House on Mango Street The house on Mango Street was based on the life of a little girl named Sandra Cisneros. She wrote the book based on her life growing up. She was born in Chicago in 1954 where she had six brothers and was the only daughter. Growing up, her mother and father moved Cisneros and her brother around a lot. “Because we moved so much, and always in neighborhoods that appeared like France after World War II, empty lots and burned out buildings, I retreated inside myself” Cisneros said when explaining all her moves as painful experiences. She found a way to deal with her life by writing. This led her to writing the book, The House on Mango Street. As the story began the writer explained why she had her name. That girl’s name was Esperanza. She was named after her great-grandma. She never knew her great-grandma but she would have really like to have known her. She never liked her named but it did have some meaning to it. Other than it being the name of her great-grandma it also means hope in English and sadness in Spanish. She then explained how they didn’t always live on Mango Street. Before that they lived on Loomis and before that they lived on Keeler Street. But even before that they lived on Paulina Street and that’s all she can remember. This book is written in a very different manner, it seems a lot like a personal diary. The technique of the book is according to a story told from a girl's point of view...

...Analysis The text I am going to comment on is a story by William Somerset Maugham. He was a prominent English writer, and he is best known by his short stories. When Maugham described people and places in his stories, he did it mostly from his personal experience. The text under consideration is an individual story «A friend in need». The plot of the story is concerned with situation when Burton the Young was down and out, and he asked Burton the Elder to give him a job. The action takes place in one English office, where Burton the Elder was a prosperous businessman. Such is the plot of the extract. The story is first person narration. The main idea reveals that every person does his own fade. The author lays particular stress on the fact that everybody must achieve good life. The opening paragraph presents appearance of one of the main heroes in this story. All the details of his appearance speak of Burton the Young’s temperament and style of life. In this story we can observe the conventional sequence of compositional elements: an exposition, a gradual mounting of tension with final climax, denouement. Exposition presents the time, the place of the action and the circumstances which influence on the action as « he came to see in my office one day and asked me for a job». We found gradation as « he didn’t move. He went rather pale. He hesitated for a moment. He was down and out. If he couldn’t get something to do he would have to commit suicide». And repetition presents...

How Theme Shapes a Story

...Theme Shapes a Story By Trina Carr English 125 Instructor: Clifton Edwards Running Head: Theme page 1 Like many people who haven’t studied literature, if someone asked me what the theme of a story was, I would have given a synopsis of the story detailing the actions and characters in it. As I have come to learn, theme is much more than a distilled retelling of a story. Theme gives a story a deeper meaning. The theme focuses the story and is the behind the scenes force that propels the story forward. In other words it gives the story purpose and shape. “Theme will attempt to hold all the elements of your story in place. It is like a cup. A vessel. A goblet”(Bain, T 2010). In this paper will attempt to explore how literary elements like symbolism and character build and affect the narrative of theme in a story. One element of a story’s theme is symbolism. Symbolism according to our text is something that has a literal identity but also stands for something else (Clugston, R 2010). For an example the five interlocking ring of the Olympic symbol. Clearly they can be identified as ring, but when they are colored blue, yellow, black, green and red, they become much more. They are a symbol of the pinicle of atheletic compition and excellence. Symbolism in literature gives the writer’s work texture. It is one element that is used to provide the reader with a deeper meaning of the story. It is what makes...

And the boy freaks out, but then there is a man who has a compass. And then they continue to walk with the man. And they then reach the top of the mountain. And after that they keep walking. And then they are setting their tent up. In the story we don’t get many details about the boy. We don’t even know his name. What we do know is that he is 8 years old, and that he haven not seen his father for four months. Descriptive vs Narrative

...Descriptive vs. Narrative Jamie Godard ENG 121 English Composition 1 Abby Forster December 23, 2013 Both styles of writing are great examples of what narrative and descriptive should be, but a narrative allows you to live within the story for just a moment.   By the end of this you will see why in my mind narrative is superior, how it draws the reader in as if they were a part of the story, instead of just being a spectator. I am speaking of the entertainment aspect as well as key writing essentials, and I will do so by using to great stories, Caged Bird by M. Angelou and I want a wife by J. Brady. First we will start with the detail, both share a style of being able to paint a vivid picture in a reader’s mind.  Whereas Angelou’s writing of a Caged Bird paints a great picture of a free bird gliding on the wind, Brady is able to cast you as the woman/wife that seems to only live with the purpose of pleasing her spouse.  Brady made it possible for you, the reader, to almost know how it feels to be the one standing at the door when your husband comes in and says, “I need dinner for me and several of my co-workers, and for you to play hostess/server while he entertains”. But, with Angelou’s story you get a description that sort of reminds you of an oil painting, with a picture of a bird as their wings dip through sunrays.  With Brady, you get emotion that gives you a sense of the writer’s mental state.  How, in order to deal with their situation, they see the humor in...
