...I’ve always believed that entrepreneurs are people who had been born with the talents of one but just recently I was able to comprehend that all of us have the potential to be successful entrepreneurs one day; that we just have to unlock the inner entrepreneur in us. Our class has been given the chance to know if we truly have the potentials of becoming a successful entrepreneur or what part of ourselves, our personalities, we have to improve to become a successful entrepreneur through a self-assessment sheet in which we were able to assess ourselves if we have the capacity to become an entrepreneur one day. I was a little surprised really when the sheet showed me that the self-confidence part was higher than that of the commitment to work contract and risk taking because I am a very shy person I tend to shy away with a new environment and new people also because I don’t have confidence in myself at times I always known that I have a low self-esteem and I sometimes don’t trust myself but I guess I trust myself better that being in commitments and in risk-taking. The highest score I got was in the Demand for Efficiency and Quality and I must admit that is who I am; I can get really bossy at times and I tend to become a perfectionist and I always demand for the best, I even get disappointed in myself sometimes when I don’t do the work I was supposed to do properly. The second highest score I got was on Systematic planning and monitoring and information seeking and again it...

...There are FOUR (4) questions in this section. Answer ALL questions in the Answer Booklet. 1. Discuss the FIVE (5) potential benefits and FIVE (5) potential drawbacks of entrepreneurship (15 marks) Suggested Answer: Entrepreneurs benefit by controlling their own destiny, reaching their own potential, making a difference, reaping impressive profits, contributing to society, and enjoying what they are doing. Potential drawbacks include the uncertainty of income, risk of losing their entire investment, long hours and hard work, a somewhat lower quality of life until the business gets started, high levels of stress, and absolute responsibility. 2. Assume you own a small camera shop that sells and repairs cameras and equipment. Discuss some of the methods you might select to allow you to successfully compete against the many large retailers that are nearby. (15 marks) Suggested Answer: In most cases, small business owners will not be able to select a cost-leadership strategy to meet the larger competitors who have a size advantage over them. Therefore, this small business owner will probably have a greater chance of success utilizing a focus and/or differentiation strategy. ...Jessica Turner has a master's degree in accounting and an undergrad degree in business. She established Turner Test Prep, a CPA exam review center, after being rejected by the Big Six accounting firms. She decided to bring the company into existence when she was searching for other employment options, and also because she had experience in the field when she worked at a review center's business office before taking up her master's degree. There, she inadvertently started teaching the math portion of the reviews, and received training in teaching. After passing the CPA exam on the first try herself, she decided that she would like to help those who want to take the CPA exam pass on their first try as well. And so she developed a business and marketing plan, convened with various professors to create a comprehensive curriculum, and opened her firm's doors. Instead of the normal review route of using books, software, or online courses, she provided a full service 6 week, 3-6 hours a day review regimen for her clients that include one hour live lectures from various professors, discussions about test taking skills and organizational skills to digest information faster, provided audiotapes that the clients can listen to at home or in their cars, executed timed mini tests as well as practice essay questions, one on one bi weekly client meeting to see how they've progressed and for them to ask questions, and a direct line to her via e mail for any queries the clients may have. ...Karen Reyes Professor Christiansen Business 100 October 19, 2015 An entrepreneur is a person who creates his or her own business and does this by taking on great financial risks. An entrepreneur can simply be from a recent family-built pizzeria in a small town or a worldwide corporation that has been around for years such as a clothing store or car company. Entrepreneurs vary in businesses and skills and come in different types. One example of an entrepreneur is Gary Schimmerling who is the president of Babylon Honda Dealership where Honda is known to be the second biggest purchase in the car business. His father created the dealership several years ago until he passed away and that’s when Schimmerling was handed the "torch", although he still had to work very hard to gain the position and power he has now. He did not create the business but he owns the dealership now, continues to create new ideas that improve the business and it is now his responsibility so in a way he is an entrepreneur. It wasn’t Schimmerling's initial interest to follow his father's footsteps in the car business. He was a school teacher in 1977 who was very intrigued in helping to educate others. It was then a few years later when his father gave him a reality check about the living he was making. During this interview, Schimmerling made it very clear that he is not a money-hungry, selfish man but at some point in his life he needed to change his salary in a drastic matter. He was getting married...

...rt of an ongoing effort to help the world learn more about DecisionDesk, what we do, and what we’re interested in, I sat down with our Co-Founder and Chief Business Development Officer, Marc Plotkin, to pick his brain on the issues the we as a company face on a daily basis.  Here’s what he had to say:  What got you interested in starting your own company?  I never had a specific interest in starting my own company; however, I’ve always been making things: music, films, and all sorts of creative projects. However, up until we started DecisionDesk, my creations were mostly out of a need to express, whereas this company was the first time I wanted to make something that was solving a real-world problem that no one else was solving. I actually believe that’s what companies are for. I think starting a company without trying to solve an existing problem is pretty silly, but when you combine the nature of a for-profit company with a focus on solving a true problem in people’s lives…then you have something powerful that’s worthwhile to make.  How has your background in music contributed to your role in Business Development at DecisionDesk?  From what I’ve seen, great companies have to build niches to build momentum. For us, the performing arts world has been a fantastic beachhead for us, which has allowed us to spread to other parts of higher education. Our founding team spoke the language of Fine Arts professionals and educators very well and that has been an essential asset. Aside from...

Entreprenuer Interview

...For my interview, I choose to interview the owner/entrepreneur of Affordable ATV’s, LLC. I asked her a variety of questions from different categories such as: Business overview, Business strategy, Human resources, Marketing, Technology, and Accounting. Affordable ATV’s was started in 2005. It was started in a good economy and the owner, Eric Bascom, started the business because he lost his union job that required him to travel all over the country for work. His brother-in-law sold 4-wheelers in a small shop in Indiana and when Eric lost his job he was trained on how to build the 4-wheelers along with many other types of small recreational vehicles. Eric brought his knowledge back to Richland county and started Affordable ATV’s. This company is S corporation, which means they operate like a corporation but are treated as a partnership for tax purposes. ATV’s sells powersports equipment such as 4 wheelers, utility vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, and dirt bikes for adults and children. They sell off-brand units of all the vehicles. Other brands such as: Honda, Kawasaki, or Suzuki, would cost about 4 times as much as the vehicles sold at Affordable ATV’s. This drastic difference in price is a huge competitive advantage for the company. Price makes a big difference when parents are buying a small scooter or child sized 4 wheeler for their kids. Parents don’t want to pay for a name brand that will cost them an arm and a leg when they can buy the off brand that runs...

...Entrepreneurship Case Michael Oakes MAN 105 May 23, 2015 Kimberly Jackson Introduction In the Netflix case I will go over elements of exchange process: marketing management: relationship marketing for customer satisfaction: my personal exposure to their advertising and holiday sales tactics. Many of the topics will show and explain how they dominated the video rental market and continue to stay on top of advancing technology. First thing to go over would be their exchange process. Netflix has a multi-level recurring subscription process with the most popular allowing three video rentals at a time. With a direct mail to customer send and return feature, you can order, receive and, return your rentals from your home. On top of all that the customer never has a late fee. The recurring subscription allows the customer to keep the videos as long as they like. (Cengage Learning, Inc. 2009). Netflix has, most likely, the largest online database of rentals. All a customer has to do is make a selection list and the movies will be sent out in accordance to your subscription. Once a movie has been returned the next movie will be sent from your list. All rentals come with their own pre-paid return envelope. Most rentals are shipped out with one day of ordering from one of their thirty-four distribution centers. The marketing management philosophy Netflix subscribes to would be marketing orientation. (Answers.com 2015). Focusing on customer needs and wants and making themselves...
