After a quite heavy 25th scene, where we have become closer than ever on Dysart as a human being, to quite uncomplicated scenes follow where Dysart uses Alan’s apparent decision of wanting to receive help to pulling a new trick on him. But Dysart is totally open about what it is he does all the time in his attempt to help Alan. It’s all a trick!
After Alan swallowed the “pills of truth” he and Dysart have a very casual conversation where both of them looks to be saying the truth and where there’s no signs of aggression in Alan. Dysart promises Alan that his nightmare will disappear if he does what Dysart asks him to do and after some hesitation Alan starts his account about how Jill purchased him to go out on the town with her. In the beginning he pretends that it was all her idea, but we can clearly sense that he was very much attracted to her as a woman as well as he was scared by the fact that she had noticed so many things in him, which he thought he could keep hidden from his surroundings. He was simply in a dilemma!
In the cinema Alan had to admit that he was really fascinated of what he saw on the linen, even though it appears to us as quite ridiculous. But the real drama does not shows until Alan’s dad suddenly turns up and order Alan out of the cinema. First, Alan is scared to death, but after a couple of highly embarrassing explanations from the father, Alan realizes that he and his father have something in common, which they probably both been trying to repress. The father goes home clearly shaken – but Alan ends up feeling pity on his father, because he now sees the deferens between the fathers façade and the actual self he have had to hide because of his wife. He has seen trough the hypocrisy with both of his parents. Alan free in some way – and this new feeling is worth remembering in the following
