The data shown in the first table expresses quantitative, or numerical statistics taken while performing the experiment. In the first trial, the limestone chips were dry when first weighed and were 218.8gm, then once the chips were placed in the beaker 1cm above the chips equals to 150 mL of vinegar. After shaken the chips weighed 227.8gms, which meant the weight went up 4.1% which is different from trial 2 where the weight started at 227.8gm and went down 2% to 223.2gm. Afterwards, in trial 3 the weight went up .8% going from 223.2gm to 224.9gm this could be considered an outlier because other than the original increase (where the chips added alternative weight as explained in Error Analysis) it is the only percentage increase. In the last trial the weight drops from 224.9gm to 217 gm, a 3.5% …show more content…
Before shaken in trial 1 the chips were light gray, dusty and some of the chips contained shellfish fossils, sedimentary rocks (limestone) contain many fossils so this is not surprising. During the shaking period the vinegar seemed to bubble and immediately after the stones were dirty, cloudy, and when the beaker was opened it hissed. Afterwards, once the chips were taken out of the bottle, the rocks seemed like they started to crumble and some parts felt similar to sand. The second trial went similarly, directly after and while shaking the chips were harder to get out of the bottle, but other than that shared most characteristics with the first trial. Once taken out the chips felt more crumbly than before showing consistency, to the previous trial. After trial 2 and beginning trial 3 the rocks seemed more crumbly and the process went around the same as the previous, once shaken the rocks were much less rough and more particles appeared.
