My mind is still racing at the thought that I am actually a convicted criminal. Getting off that train and being surrounded by white people with guns and and angry faces, I didn’t know what to do. It all happened so fast, one minute I was searching for suitable work the next I was in a prison jail cell with the eight other guys I was on the train with. We were all convicted of the same crime, convicted for raping two girls we didn’t even know were on the train with us. Through the first court trial nobody even considered our testimony because of our ethnicity, all the logical facts were transparent and completely ignored because we were nine young black boys who looked “like we would rape two girls”. I felt such despair when we were thrown into the cells again, …show more content…
One who actually cared about the result of our case instead of just the money. Samuel Leibowitz was a very thorough man, he looked into every aspect of our case and did his research. Every piece of logical evidence was backed up and legit. We still never managed to win though. The simple fact that we were black people, that we were different from the general majority never helped our case and it enraged me, we had no control. We are all human beings and deserve the right to fair trial, but it was all overlooked because of our skin colour. I can’t imagine the disappointment and annoyance Leibowitz feels, he tries so hard to prove his points and prove us innocent but nobody cares to look past the color of our skin or the stereotypes surrounding the entirety of the black culture. To make matters worse, none of the locals like Leibowitz because he was Jewish and came from the North, everything he said only angered the locals and made his arguments have absolutely no effect. The girls that accused us continued to lie and continued to get away with the highly stretched and evidently not logical lie they
