Sustainable forest management requires three major criteria which are the maintenance of ecological processes within the forest (soil formation, energy flow, biogeochemical cycles (carbon, nutrient and hydrological cycles), maintenance of biodiversity of forest, improving the net social benefits derived from the mixture of forest uses within the constraints by considering the future. Forest provides habitats for more than half of the fauna and flora on the Earth (SCBD, 2001). Forest biome plays an important role in mitigating climate change by serving as carbon sinks (Hassan et al., 2005). Forest land is the most fundamental natural resources which become reduced mainly due to anthropogenic pressures. For proper management of land, it is essential to have information about existing land cover and about the naturalness of the land. The increment in forest cover does not mean that …show more content…
Bojocco et al(2010) Reported that fire has a major role in the determination of diversity and vegetation dynamics. It has influence on landscape structural diversity (Weatherspoon and Skinner 1995). The frequent occurrence of forest fires has been one of the vital reasons for the exhaustion and extinction of most of the biodiversity. This results in partial or complete degradation of vegetation cover or fragmentation of the forest thus modifying the radiation balance by growing the surface albedo, water runoff and raising the soil erosion (Darmawan and Mulyanto, 2001). Historical study of forest fire is significant for ecological and forest management applications(Iniguez et al. 2008). In terrestrial ecosystems, Landuse change and fires are considered as the drivers of global change(Rudel et al. 2005;Fraterrigo et al.

Globalizations and the S.L.A.

...Abstract This essay examines Canada’s lumber industry, the Softwood Lumber Agreement with the US and how globalization, the industry and the agreement all play a factor in each other’s functions. This essay is not a detailed examination of Canada’s softwood lumber agreement but a generalized examination of how globalization influences and affects the lumber industry, and in turn, the softwood lumber agreement. Executive Summary Logging 200 years ago was a booming industry and started a chain reaction to building our nation. Today, technology and government regulations have changed how logs are harvested but the industry’s core function remains the same, to harvest logs for sale. Today the US is Canada’s largest lumber market, but once exports to Britain were more important. What remains the same through centuries of market fluctuations is Canada’s comparative advantage in lumber, Canada’s forests account for 10% of the world’s store. Globalization is bringing markets closer together and how this affects the lumber industry needs a closer analysis in how the lumber industry has evolved from hand falling trees to where the industry is today. Government regulations influence and control the lumber industry and this essay attempts to analyze the Softwood Lumber Agreement (its evolution, perspectives of, economic effects) and how globalization may affect future agreements. This essay also looks at globalization and the alternatives to the Softwood Lumber Agreement. Depending...

Applying Leadership Theories

...Blanchard, & Johnson, 2008). Leadership is defined as the process of influencing the activities of an individual or a group toward reaching goal achievement in a given situation (Hersey, Blanchard, & Johnson, 2008). For the past three decades, education has been going through a sustained period of reform and restructuring (Razik & Swanson, 2010). With these changes, leadership styles must undergo changes to keep up with the needs of the global society (Razik & Swanson, 2010). Experts do not agree on one leadership style or theory that should be implemented to achieve success. Many have decided that a combination of different theories based on needs will yield the best result. This essay will depict how different leadership theories apply to my school (Forest High School) setting as reflected from the leader’s behavior and actions. Applying Leadership Theories Individuals’ interest in leadership increased during the early part of the twentieth century. Early leadership theories focused on what qualities distinguished leaders from followers, while subsequent theories looked at other variables such as situational factors and skill levels (Cherry, 2011). The aim of every school should be to promote the success of every student who is part of the organization. However, some schools accomplish this task while others fall short. In many organizations today, different leadership theories can be...

They, moreover, help control climate and prevent soil from erosion. Forests, however, are under threat by deforestation – an act of clearing trees to exploit resources like woods, minerals, medicines and to create land for agricultural activities or space for building facilities, for instance houses, roads, etc. Deforestation is a pressing problem, and it is killing our planet because of many reasons. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impacts of deforestation on our planet, the causes of deforestation, and some necessary solutions to reduce deforestation. 1. Native American Environmental Issues

...Essay on Native American Environmental Issues by David R. Lewis This essay is taken from Native America in the Twentieth Century: An Encyclopedia, edited by Mary B. Davis and published in 1994 by Garland Publishers of New York. The encyclopedia includes additional essays on mining, natural resource management, hunting and fishing rights, and economic development. It's a highly recommended resource. Reprinted without permission for educational purposes. Traditionally Native Americans have had an immediate and reciprocal relationship with their natural environments. At contact, they lived in relatively small groups close to the earth. They defined themselves by the land and sacred places, and recognized a unity in their physical and spiritual universe. Their cosmologies connected them with all animate and inanimate beings. Indians moved in a sentient world, managing its bounty and diversity carefully lest they upset the spirit "bosses," who balanced and endowed that world. They acknowledged the power of Mother Earth and the mutual obligation between hunter and hunted as coequals. Indians celebrated the earth's annual rebirth and offered thanks for her first fruits. They ritually addressed and prepared the animals they killed, the agricultural fields they tended, and the vegetal and mineral materials they processed. They used song and ritual speech to modify their world, while physically transforming that landscape with fire and water, brawn and brain. They did not passively...

There is an appreciation that Kenya is experiencing unprecedented road and highway expansion in line with its Vision 2030 Strategic Plan. Mitigations that need to be put in place to reduce the severity of these impacts have also been discussed. The second part discusses the Global commons, their interactions and the effects experienced as a result of depletion of one or more of them. Federal Lands in Idaho Should Be Managed by Idaho

...Research Essay Federal Lands in Idaho Should be Managed by Idaho This year the federal government spent a billion dollars fighting wild fires. The Prepare Act, currently under consideration in Congress, would give funds to local governments for wild fire mitigation. FEMA would provide oversight for any funds directed to the states as the recent fire season was considered a disaster. Prepare, Ready, Equip, and Prevent Areas at Risk of Emergency Wildfires Act of 2013 or the PREPARE Act of 2013, was authored in part by Idaho’s own Senator Crapo and Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado (The Library of Congress, S.1428, .IS, 2013-2014). The federal government is aware that our forests have been mismanaged and this act, in a small way, helps to make up for previous management practices. It does not do enough to mitigate the effects of pests and wildfires that endanger our forests in Idaho. Some of you may know a little about the ownership of federal lands in Idaho. This paper will help you to learn more about this. Some of you may know a lot about ownership of federal lands in Idaho. Perhaps you know someone personally who has dealt with land issues in Idaho. Hopefully, you will learn something new about this topic that persuade you that the State of Idaho needs to assume ownership and oversight of these public lands. I was employed by the timber industry for several years and spent time lobbying on their behalf to keep public lands open for logging. I have researched...

If you only have one domain controller (not recommended), there is nothing to do since all roles must be on this server, but if you have multiple servers you should move some of theese roles on to more servers. It is also important to be aware of what servers are Global Catalog servers, especially if you have more than one domain and even if only one domain, they will be prefered by applications like Exchange server. It is recommended to place the forest roles on one Domain Controller (DC) and the domain roles on another server. If not all Domain Controllers are Global Catalog servers, it is also important to place the infrastructure master on a server that is NOT a Global Catalog server.
