The challenge of solving practical problems inherent in the field of engineering and appeals directly to these traits. I am particularly interested in electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) because it is such a rapidly evolving discipline. The potential to integrate new technologies into real life applications and the opportunity to develop practical skills in this sphere is exciting. My bachelor degree is in Space Techniques and Technology. It is a sphere, which is in its infancy in Kazakhstan. The study of mechanical and electronic engineering share many similarities. One could not reasonably dispute that electronics occupies a massive role in the contemporary world economy. There were times, however, when it was debated just how much of a role electronics should play. Throughout the evolution of the aircraft industry and into the space age, it became abundantly clear that the capability and utility of an aircraft or space vehicle had more to do with its electronics than any other

But I thought instead of going through the same essays over and over again, you can get to know more about me and what I’d like to do for the future. Sound good? Ok let’s go. First of all my name is Gustavo Arturo Villarroel De La Concha Alvarez. Pretty long isn’t it? Don’t worry you can call me Gus for short. Over the past year when I still a junior in high school I conjured up a multitude of ideas for innovations that could very well alter the way we manufacture vehicles for the future, but first I need to be educated in the field that best suits that subject, Mechanical Engineering. During my junior year, I bought a 2001 6 cylinder Laser Red Ford Mustang. It was a stick shift too, so it was fun to drive on the highway switching in and out of gears and really hear the engine roar. I went with my mother and step father to the Rolex 24 since they worked for BRA Motorsports and went inside the garages for the racers and I was mesmerized by the array of sport horses as well as the components that make them up. I was always a curious soul, I just felt the need to poke my nose into things that fascinated me and I always had the urge to obtain a COMPLETE understanding of them...

...Essay #1: What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field - such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities - and what you have gained from your involvement. I’ve wanted to become a mechanical engineer ever since the first time I saw a Formula One racing car on TV. There was something special about the car that captured my interest. I admired the skillful drivers, but I was more drawn to the person who made the car. My father told me only mechanical engineers are able to design machines that complex. In that moment, I decided to study mechanical engineering so that I could design the best cars in the future. When I discovered physics in high school, I realized how exciting it was to focus on a subject I liked. The deeper I studied physics, the more passionate I became. My growing interest helped me make my decision to study abroad in the United States. I know that the U.S. has the most advanced engineering technology in the world, so I am excited by the possibility of continuing my education there. My parents support the idea wholeheartedly. In all the generations of my family, I will be the first to attend college—they would be proud if I pursued my studies in the United States. While there have been many events in college that have convinced me I am well-suited for the study of mechanical engineering—such as building...

...ESSAY Computer Aided Drafting better known as CAD has revolutionized the engineering world. It simplifies complex 2D drawing processes into virtual form which can easily be corrected at a click of a mouse. By the drawings being completely digitized, it almost eliminates wasted time for travel and mailing projects mainly because the engineer can just simply email the files anywhere around the world. Another advantage is the user can clean up jagged lines by zooming in on the imperfections and join them together. There are so many pluses with CAD such as no more smudges on paper, no fidgeting between drafting tools and extra care isn’t necessary damaging the paper it’s drawn on. The areas of profession it helps are vast, Architects, Mechanical Engineers and of course Graphic Designers. CAD makes it so much easier across the board regardless of the language barrier. Everyone is on the same page because it mainly requires the use of drawings and measurements. When the program first developed, it was an instant overnight success with its capabilities. Today, there isn’t any industry in sight that’s not using it for example: movie companies, car manufacturers, furniture companies and also forensic scientists. Computer-aided design, more commonly referred to as CAD, is the use of computer software, programs, and systems to create two-dimensional (2D) vector-based graphics and three-dimensional (3D) models that are used extensively in the architectural, design, drafting, and...

...Eléonore van der Straeten 130243 19.04.2013 Manufacturing Technologies – Assignment 1 Producing engineering housings: examination of the manufacturing-materials-design issues I. Introduction This assignment is an examination of the manufacturing-materials-design issues involved in producing engineering housings. A housing can be defined as an “envelope designed to retain and position a range of mechanical or electrical components”1. More specifically, the aim of this essay is to discuss what aspects need to be considered when determining which materials and processes are to be used in the manufacture of a car engine cylinder block (which is considered to be a housing). First of all, an identification of the developments, difficulties and constraints introduced by the design requirement to cast (or mould) a housing will be done. Secondly, a comparison of the material/process choices between ferrous alloys and light alloys for housing applications will be developed. Thirdly, the finishing, joining and assembly aspects will be identified and finally, this essay will be ended by a discussion about how the overall organisation of the manufacturing system might be expected to change with production from cast iron to aluminium alloy engine blocks and how the manufacturer has accommodated these changes within their overall manufacturing strategy. ...Review of Related Literature (Appendix C) Gender Differences Gender differences have become on the hotlist of critical issues around the world. Hausmann, Tyson, & Zahidi (2009) reported that there is no country in the world that has yet reached equality between women and men in different critical areas such economic participation or education. It is well accepted that there are no differences in the general intelligence or basic cognition between males and females, the issue is whether each category is innately better at certain, very specific, skills.  The cognitive differences that have been put forward include men being slightly better than women at tasks that involve the mental spatial rotation of an object, spatial perception and visualization, and math problem solving.  Women seem to score slightly better on tasks that involve visual memory, word and landmark recall and math calculations (Kimura, Doreen, 2002, Pinker, Spelke, 2005, Newcomb, Nora et. al., 2005).  “It is important to remember, when we sees assertions such as these, that these are general trends and that not every individual is held to them.  Although both men and women as populations tend to do better at certain tasks, the margin of difference is quite small”(K. Smythe, 2008)   Male “In mathematics, boys and girls have similar results at the fourth and eighth school years in most countries. Boys' advantage emerges in the later school years and is especially noticeable among students who attend the...

...Communication and Writing Skills       For many years, in the masses of people there has been made a stereotype of the working engineer. This is a person who spends ten hours straight in front of his computer, making some strange graphs and calculations. He is afraid of sunlight and spends his free time inventing the time machine. When people try to start a conversation he says that he has a lot of work to do and tries to run away as fast as possible. This picture may be a little exaggerated, but it is how media and television draw it. But today, engineers need communication and writing skills even more than actual engineering.       Any engineering career starts from the resume writing. Usually a resume consists of two parts: the list of things that you have done well in your life and the cover letter. Dr. Craig Gunn, a professor of mechanical engineering, clearly explains, “Many big companies do not require the cover letter, but it will be much better for you to write one, because if a manager will read it for some reason, your chances to get a job will be a lot higher.” A person that is going to give you a job will not see you directly, so you have to convince him or her not to throw your resume in the basket by presenting all of your best qualities in the resume. To write a good convincing resume is a very difficult thing to accomplish without some preparations. A good thing will be to go to a library and read a special book about resume writing. Also, the Internet is...

He was born n Detroit, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1972 and a Doctorate degree from Northwestern University School of Law in Boston in 1975. Mr. Gillum has had a countless number of achievements and jobs over his lifetime. The Pathway to Excellence program that I am apart of I had a chance to hear some words of wisdom from him. He spoke about many things including many pointers on how to be successful, but the three things that really caught my attention were “Make a Plan”, “Take the Shot”, and “Preparation and Opportunity = Success”. The Make a Plan point referred to knowing what you are doing, before you start something. You want to remain focused on what you want. On the road to success you are going to lose things and have to make sacrifices. You are going to have sacrifice going out, hanging out with friends, and doing some of the things that you really want to. You are going to have to make changes, but you cannot be afraid of them. You might have to relocate, and you cannot be afraid to lay it all on the line for your dreams of success. The second point that he made, that I found useful, and important was that of Taking the Shot. This means if you work hard, you can play hard. You cannot succeed if you do not put in the time...
