We have all read a book and then watched the movie and it was unconditionally different, or maybe it was basically the same. In the Devil’s Arithmetic, there are bountiful; differences between the book and the movie. They combined countless things in the movie that weren’t in the book and left things out of the movie that were in the book. It makes a vast difference if you suspend details that were in the book that the producer didn’t put into the movie. The Devil’s Arithmetic begins with a teenager named Hannah who doesn’t desire to remember. Hannah then goes to her grandparents house for Passover and she really doesn’t wish to go. They celebrate the Jewish holiday with watered wine and bunches of food. Grandpa Will then gives Hannah the …show more content…
For example, Rivkah is Hannah’s cousin in the movie and finds out that she is Aunt Eva early in the movie. In the book, though, Rivkah is a character that Hannah meets at camp and she then realizes that she is actually Aunt Eva at the very end of the book. In the light of that, in the book, Grace and Shmuel are Hannah’s aunt and uncle. In the movie, there isn’t even a Grace. There is a Shmuel, but he’s not related to Hannah at all. Lastly, in the book, when Hannah gets transported, her name becomes Chaya, but in the movie, her name stays Hannah. The plot also changes a lot during the book and the movie. One example is that in the movie, Rivka almost taken away in the oven because she is sick, but then Hannah takes her spot. But in the book, Rivka almost gets taken away to the oven because a guard found her not working, but then Hannah also took her spot in the book too. Another example is that in the book, Hannah returns back home right as she is about to get into the oven and then is back home when she closes the door. But in the movie, she actually goes in the oven and dies and then wakes up back at home in a bed because she had passed out from drinking too much
