Ethical Decision Reflection HSM/230 Keyanna Rogers January 30, 2013

There have been many moments in my life that I can say that I am not proud of, but we learn from own mistakes. Nobody is perfect and we are going to keep making mistakes in life. We learn from our mistakes to make better choices in life. There was a moment in my life that I had to make a decision regarding my friend and my job. I worked at a retail store with a friend of mine; we went to high school together, and hung out from time to time. It was about 3 months into the job and she started to steal money from the register, and some merchandise from the store. This came back to both of us because we was responsible for closing and making sure our register had a certain amount plus the end of the day receipts was not adding up. So, I had to have a meeting with the store manager, and some corporate people of the company; because they were trying to fire me, and have me arrested. My job and work ethics was at stake, and the factor that I had to consider was how I am going to explain this to my landlord for not paying my rent. I had to make a decision to tell what really happened or take the fall for something I didn’t do. So, I told the truth my friend was fired and they didn’t press charges because she admitted to the crimes. This was a hard decision to make, but at the time I just moved on my own with my son, and fiancé. The outcome was me continuing my job while being harassed for about a month by my ex-friend. Time passed and I still had my dignity and my

Ethical Decision Reflection

...Checkpoint: Ethical Decision Reflection Phoebe Edwards HSM/230 Carrie Cooper 3/19/13 I have not had to make any decision dealing with ethical decision. But if I did have to make ethical decision the factors I would consider are to make a clear logical choice about the issue. Also I would try to solve the issue by simple utilitarian thinking, this make you look at moral duties and virtues, bring a person to a derived from the principles of right or wrong. Say like if I had people living at my house and one was not doing anything around the house then I would say to them that if they could not help around the house that they would have to leave, but if I have to talk to that person more than once, Then that when I would make my ethical decision making and the action would be put into affect. The problems that we run into are that everybody has their own views and making their decisions is based on their views, which that bring me to the ethical decisions. That make me ask questions and look and at my actions of right and wrong as with the feeling of honesty and fairness and with some compassion. When you have decision making with action that make people action and...

Ethical Lens

...Reflection of Group Assignments with Utilization of Professional Ethical Lens Inventory INTRODUCTION “Knowing’ ethical theories, principles, values, and morals, and ‘understanding’ how to apply them must go hand in hand” (Pozgar, 2013, p. 173). We have been asked to view many different ethical dilemmas and decide which course of action would best fit the given situation. There is no right or wrong choice. Each ethical decision is based upon the make up of one’s morality. “It is a guide to behavior that all rational persons would put forward for governing the behavior of all moral agents” (Pozgar, 2013, p. 57). To better understand our individual morality, we were asked to complete a series of 36 questions that would determine our own ethical viewpoint and how we utilize it to come to a conclusion. According to Baird, there are four ethical frameworks that are utilized upon attempting to solve an ethical dilemma. These frameworks are based upon four core values: rationality, sensibility, autonomy, and equality. Each framework is compromised of two of these four values. (Baird, 2005) There were two different scenarios that were completed individually in which we had to make an ethical decision based upon our own ethical lens. We then came together as a group to make the same decision again, but this time the decision needed to be made unanimously. Many frameworks were represented as we worked through each scenario and choice to come to a clear consensus. These frameworks...

The Ethical Teacher

...Reflection is a necessary component of everyday life, as well as the growth an individual makes within their profession. This concept remains true for teachers who, due to the particular changes they must make in order to meet the fluctuating needs of both their students and society, are perpetually connected to reflection. Beginning with John Dewey, during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, numerous scholars have articulated their viewpoints concerning the positive and negatives impacts of this reflective teaching, in addition to its influence on the moral dilemmas faced by educators. One of these people, Elizabeth Campbell, asserts her perspectives throughout her text, The Ethical Teacher, wherein she describes the relationship between ethical knowledge and moral agency, the link between moral dilemmas and ethical knowledge, and the methods of lessening moral tensions in education. Within her book, Campbell (2003) maintains that “ethical knowledge relies on teachers’ understanding and acceptance of moral agency as professional expectations implicit in all aspects of their day-to-day practice” (p. 3). These demands of moral agency are important for students’ learning and development. Consequently, it is essential to understand moral agency. Campbell (2003) declares that moral agency “relates to the exacting ethical standards the teacher as a moral person and a moral professional hold himself or herself to” and “concerns the teacher as a moral educator, model...

Included, in this paper will be a reflection on the author’s ethical perspective and how it has evolved. Ethics plays an essential role in both the business and social environment. Ethics reflects the morale beliefs and principles that demonstrate society’s opinion of an action performed by a group or individual that are considered right or wrong (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). Ethics and Social Responsibility Corporate Social responsibility is best defined by the concept that an organization has a commitment to serve society on an overall basis and to meet the financial interests of its stakeholders (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). Strategic Planning

...Ethics Reflection Alicia Zisumbo STR/581 September 23, 2014 Shad Slaughter Ethics Reflection A strategic plan is an important part of business development because it defines the organization’s strategy, decision-making and the path the company takes in order to succeed. The social responsibility an organization has on the community is how it accomplishes its business while it meets its obligations to society and the environment. Ethics plays a strong role in a company’s strategic plan because the public persona will determine if the company is successful or not. Corporations must remember that the decisions made not only affect the company and its employees, but also the stakeholders and the communities that drive the business. A business has an ethical responsibility to uphold the commonly held beliefs of society because it is society that ultimately makes or breaks a business. A perfect example of this is currently being played out in the media regarding the image of the National Football League (NFL) and its stance on domestic violence. The NFL brings in millions of dollars a year from ticket sales, merchandise, sponsorships, and TV ads. It is a very prosperous business to say the least. The NFL has a code of conduct policy that must be followed by its employees (players, coaches, etc.). The Ray Rice scandal is currently marring the image of model behavior in the NFL. As an avid NFL fan, I have been watching this scandal unfold with the start of a new football...

Ethical Self Reflection

...Running Head: Ethical Self Reflection Ethical Self Reflection [Name] [University and Area of Study] Abstract In many cases, a person must choose between two or more “rights” that may or may not align with both one’s moral and ethical standards. The care-based, rule-based, ends-based thinking to arrive at a decision rather than rationalizing after the fact are necessary for analyzing ethical dilemmas (Hughes, Ginnett, & Curphy, 2012, pp. 164-165). The self-reflection needed to identify one’s fundamental nature, and to understand the morals, ethics and values one uses to make decisions are critical to becoming an authentic leader who is a moral manager that serves the people that follow him or her (Hughes, et.al, pp. 152-153). Ethical Self Reflection What is right? Morals define personal character related to the ideas of both right and wrong. Ethics, while inherently linked to morals and one’s moral obligations, is a set of moral principles used in a social system in which those morals are applied. In other words, ethics point to standards or codes of behavior expected by the group to which the individual belongs. These standards could be national ethics, social ethics, company ethics, professional ethics, or even family ethics. So while a person’s moral code is usually unchanging, the ethics he or she practices can be dependent on exogenous factors not controlled by the individual or the group to which the individual belongs. Care-based thinking describes what is...

Ethics in Strategic Planning Ethical means that which is morally good, and morally right, as opposed to legally or procedurally right (Mendonca, 2001).
