People who don’t take their medications as prescribed end up costing the health system up to $290 billion per year increased medical cost, according to a Boston-based health policy group that is pushing to make the issue part of the national health reform debate (Fierce Healthcare, 2009). Ethics in Management

...Individual Paper: Evaluation of Business Code Ethics Francisco Pacheco PHL/323 - ETHICS IN MANAGEMENT September 9, 2012 Donna Falloon Individual Paper: Evaluation of Business Code Ethics In the business world, every company, large or small, has a set of guidelines and standards that describe a person’s expected behavior at the work area. Everyone, including employers, must follow these regulations because it describes organizational expectations for all employees. Business organizations often develop several different policies, rules and guidelines for administering their business. Code of ethics and guidelines do not exist to govern all behaviors, but just enough so that everyone can harmoniously work together while at the same time being productive so that the business or organization can prosper. There are many big and small companies in the business world, and they all have a set of code of ethics that help to establish order and integrity. Even one of the largest oil companies in the world, Shell, has a code of conduct and ethics. They share core values and honesty, integrity and respect for everyone in their foundation and are required to conduct their affairs in accordance with those same principals. Shell Code of Conduct provides basic rules, standards and behaviors that are necessary to achieve the agenda. They are expressed clearly and concise for all their employees on a number of enterprise-wide risk areas and employees are reminded to remember that there...

Pepsi Business Ethics

...Business ethics is a topic that is often on the forefront of media and journalism reports in the United States of America today. To someone that doesn’t have a background in business, or a general understanding of the business world, these reports can be cumbersome and hard to follow. One must first understand what business ethics actually are. Dictionary.com defines business ethics as the study and examination of moral and social responsibility in relation to business practices and decision-making in business (dictionary.com). Once one understands the meaning of business ethics, they often wonder what major companies do to stay ahead of the curve, and excel in the area of business ethics. Sadly, it seems as if the general media is only interested in companies with poor business ethics and practices. Media outfits are able to sell more papers, and gain more viewers, and honest companies such as PepsiCo never get the positive publicity that they deserve. Ethics and compliance are present in PepsiCo’s day to day operations. PepsiCo also has procedures in place to ensure ethical behavior for both their employees, and the company as a whole. Next, one must take a look at processes within the organization PepsiCo employs to comply with SEC regulations. Finally, the financial statements of PepsiCo will be analyzed with the intent of looking into the trend for different ratios and what it tells investors, and the public alike about the organization’s financial health. In a...

Reporting Practices and Ethics Paper

...Reporting Practices and Ethics Paper Bryan Luther HCS/405 April 30, 2012 Janine Lewis Reporting Practices and Ethics Paper Financial Management is important in all portions of health care financial planning. Numerous financial decisions are made on a day-to-day basis from all the accounting records and business dealings that occur. Chief financial officers make decisions according to the organization’s fiscal objectives or by using generally accepted accounting principles. Many sources have divided the elements or principles of financial management up into different 10 principles. Baker (2011), on the other hand, identifies four basic principles that are crucial to health care organizations reporting practices: planning, controlling, organizing/directing, and decision making. Initial planning requires financial managers to know the short term and long term objectives of their organization and to create plans for meeting those objectives. Planning is more than the higher management of a health care facility deciding what it wants to accomplish. Effective planners define strategies when planning and seek the input of everyone involved in the process. This ensures everyone supports the plan and understands their roles in executing the plan (Baker & Baker, 2011). To control the finances, the manager guarantees that every part of the organization is following the strategy of the corporation and all of the information has been established. To do this the manager will...

Administrative Ethics Paper

...Administrative Ethics Paper HCS/335 Introduction This technological era has yielded many awesome and innovative products that have been a great benefit to the health care industry. Unfortunately, there have been areas in which the technological advances have backfired on health care providers and patients alike. Describe the issue and its impact on the population it effects most. Caitlyn Dewey of the Washington Post wrote an article that sheds light on one such issue: protecting patients’ information from the internet. The article outlines the increasingly horrendous trend called medical gore, “graphic, bloody images from surgeries, accidents and morgues, passed around Youtube, Imgur and more shadowy sites not for educational or training purposes, but for the macabre titillation of amateurs” (Dewey, 2014). It seems that frequently clinical staff, including doctors and nurses, take these digital images of these patients and share them with other people. While much of the gore comes from other countries with less strict patient protection laws, it is not uncommon in the United States. According to Dewey, there is a large gathering of people who “enjoy the bloody mess” (2014, p.2). The medical gore trend entails taking expository pictures of patients in extremely vulnerable positions. One such patient is described in the article as being horrified at the discovery. She was notified that a picture of her recent suicide attempt, where she stuck two pencils in her eyes, had...

A drug manufacturing company needs to step back and look at the problems of lack of communication and fix standard ethics. This simply can be resolved with the sales rep and administrative systems. The sales rep is responsible for giving the doctor the warnings of side effects; the doctor is responsible for giving the patient the warning of side effects. The administrative staff is responsible for hiring sales representatives.
