It was exciting to look back into our history at someone who many revere as our greatest leader. Many people today, believe that Abraham Lincoln was and is the greatest President the United States has ever seen. Donald Phillips shares his agreement with this sentiment in his well written book, "Lincoln On Leadership."
The book itself was thoroughly enjoyable. It was a very easy read and shared much of President Lincoln's leadership through the eyes and stories of others of that day. This book is a great history lesson of the period of the Civil War and Lincoln's legacy. Through numerous stories, Donald Phillips shares example after example of Lincoln's style of leadership.

According to Phillips, "In order to comprehend modern leadership theory and be successful in the future, leaders must look to the past - to President Abraham Lincoln, for example - who routinely practiced nearly all of the 'revolutionary thinking' techniques that have been preached to American industry in the last ten to fifteen years. Lincoln can be looked to as the ideal model for desirable, effective leadership." We would agree for the most part with his assessment of Abraham Lincoln as a leader.

This book highlights a number of wonderful leadership characteristics and skills. The one characteristic that seemed to come to the front the most was Lincoln's ability to be a "Servant Leader." Through Lincoln's own writings and words, plus the writings and words of many others it seems clear that he was a man that understood the critical need to engage people in relationships while balancing the need to accomplish goals.

"Lincoln On Leadership" is a great read for anyone desiring to learn how to be a better leader. If businesses and organizations today were successful in effectively implementing Lincoln's leadership style, we would see a tremendous turn around in our country today. We would see far more productivity with unrivaled relationships and employee contentment.

We recommend this book for all to read. Not just to read though, but to take the time to put his principles into practice.

Summary of Main Points
Lincoln On Leadership describes the leadership style and qualities of the man who many say was the greatest leader in American history. Author, Donald Phillips shares numerous historical references to demonstrate some of the critical leadership skills that Lincoln utilized in his political career.
Although Phillips describes numerous leadership qualities, there are a few that form the center of Lincoln's leadership style. Lincoln was a man of great integrity and honesty. He was referred to as 'Honest Abe', and still is. His honesty combined with his ability to be direct and compassionate at the same time, certainly sets him apart from many other leaders. Lincoln had tremendous compassion for his staff. He seemed to be ever willing to give them opportunities to grow and develop. He offered tremendous support for them to develop into the types of leaders he needed. At the same time he was willing to make tough decisions. Throughout his Presidency, Lincoln relieved many of the most powerful leaders in the country of their duties. But not until he tried everything he could to help them to succeed.
Another critical leadership quality that set Lincoln apart was his undying desire to learn and be prepared for everything he faced. Donald Phillips recites example after example of speeches and meetings that made Lincoln so famous. All of these examples exemplify his strength in preparation. Lincoln was also very talented at speaking extemporaneously, to the degree that some of his most well received speeches were not prepared beforehand. Interestingly, however, it is noted that his ability to be extemporaneous was based on his great commitment to preparation

Because yeast cells are so small, they do not require as much energy from their food as large multicellular organisms do. Yeast use a process called fermentation. What is fermentation? Fermentation is a way for cells to get energy without using oxygen. Small organisms can break down complex organic substances such as sugar into simpler ones and release the energy that is in the carbon-carbon bonds. The waste products of this process are molecules such as ethyl alcohol and lactic acid, as well as other. Human beings have...

...The introduction of the presentation was done by Matt. He started off the presentation with a loaded question as to whether God exists or not. He then defined as to what creationism actually was. This is an example of the use of rhetorical definition as he mentions what creationism meant. The use of rhetorical definition was seen again when he defined later in the presentation as to what evolution meant. The use of example about Matt Slick from CORM falls under the rhetoric device of argument from celebrity. There were also a few visual images used in the presentation. Matt ended his part of the presentation with a video which involved Richard Dawkins an atheist. This is an example of argument from celebrity. In the video Richard Dawkins got into a serious argument with the interviewer. This was an example of argument from outrage. The next part of the presentation was the pros of Creationism which was presented by Melanie. She started off with a question asking how creationism has started. She, then explained how God created the Earth in seven days. This falls under rhetorical explanation as the way she presented showed that day 2 happened because of day 1. Melanie had most of her material based on what the Bible said. This is an example of argument from popularity as she presented saying creationism is true because Bible says it. Melanie also ended the presentation with a video which included many examples. Argument by example is the rhetoric device used here. ...

...Throughout this course I have learned a lot, not only about the subject itself but also about myself and the direction I want to take for my future and how I want to apply my education in my future career goals. As its been defined in this course, IMC is a communications process for planning, creation, integration, and implementation of diverse forms of marcom delivered to a brand’s targeted customers and prospects. The main goal of an IMC camping is to influence and affect the behavior of the target audience. These two base concepts of IMC can be applied in our everyday life. ...Evaluation Essay of Simi’s Indian Cuisine Marcos A. Salz Evaluation of Simi’s India Cuisine The purpose of this paper is to provide an in-depth assessment of a restaurant with specific criteria as the basis for the evaluation. In this paper, I will evaluate Simi's India Cuisine in San Antonio, Texas. The evaluation will be based on three criteria: Affordability, quality of food, and customer service. Description Simi's India Cuisine first opened its doors in 1989. Owner Amarjit Singh envisioned a dining experience like no other in San Antonio. The quaint restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet and a la carte dinner, served in a casual, yet decorative setting. Simi's India Cuisine specializes in traditional Indian food, and is known for excellent service and authentic Indian cuisine. The dishes served range from lamb and chicken curries, to vegetarian dishes such as saag paneer, and vegetable biriyani (“Simi’s India Cuisine,” 2011). Affordability As far as specialty restaurants are concerned, Simi's India Cuisine is moderately priced. The most expensive items on the menu are the seafood dishes, which run $12 a plate. Simi’s offers family meals that give bulk discounts on the already low prices of the individual entrees. Breads and side dishes are also less than $5 each; making for a very affordable dining experience. However, Simi’s offers two sampler platters that cost as much as $35. While these platters are not advertised as “dinner for two,” the amount of...

Eval and Judge

...There are several different methods that we evaluate and judge other people. Fist we have to get an impression of someone before we begin to evaluate or judge them. There are several different characteristics we notice right away when we first meet someone, such as how well they are dressed and how well they take care of themselves as far as grooming. We put each of these characteristics into a schema. A schema is a set of expectations about something that is based on past experiences and is assumed to correct about everything in that category (Maisto & Morris, 2010). If this person’s appearance is unkempt, then we will assume that they are someone who just does not care about their appearance, but something else may be causing this person to become a slob that we are unaware of. There is a self-fulfilling prophecy that is the process by which we expect something from someone, such as expecting them to be friendly, and we act as if they are friendly. This person will then show us friendly traits (Maisto & Morris, 2010). Stereotyping is another way that we evaluate people. Stereotypes are a set of characteristics that are believed to be shared by all members of a specific social category. People who believe that those who live out in the country are stupid, inbred and all farmers; this is a form of stereotyping (Maisto & Morris, 2010). With these different ways we evaluating and judging people, we expect different things from everyone. If we saw someone who kept their appearance...

If there is an environmental problem, the manager can also usually make adjustments to promote higher performance. But if motivation is the problem, the manager's task is more challenging.
