Evaluating Media for Creditability

The news broadcast that I watched was local channels. Channel 7 and Channel 2, they are really the only channels that I watch. The times of the broadcast were both 11:00pm news on Friday July7th 2012. I recorded the one channel while I watched the other. I decided on local news because I knew that these would be more similar then the national broadcasts because they have such a wide range of things to report on, where the local is just in your area so the stories should be similar. The news channel that I felt was more credible was channel 2. The reason why I think that channel two news was more credible is because they were more through with their reports on each story and they always had witness either involved or around to put in their thoughts or insight. I think that they are more rounded when it comes to reporting on a story. I think that this is funny that I feel this way because I favor channel 7 personally, I always watch channel 7 and no other channel so I am a little shocked with my own findings. I can tell that they are all about getting as much information out about something as quickly as possible. Each segment was short but supplied a lot of information and like I said they were always on site, so where ever the story was they were reporting from there. Channel 7 news reports were just pictures and the regular reporters sitting at a desk chatting it up, although I do enjoy listening to their friendly banter at times I must say. For each station they reported on equal material as well as the same amount of time. The big story was a car accident that killed three young boys; a male driver of another vehicle was driving on the thruway the wrong way. The driver was 87 years old and he crashed head on into the boys vehicle in which three died except the driver. The controversy now is if elderly people should have to get tested all over again for driving, in the past year there have been many accidents involving an elderly person where they have driven into building and restaurants that people are fed up. I think that channel 2 went into more details about the accident they knew that the gentle man talked to the responders when they had gotten there and they knew that the three boys that passed away were only 21. Channel 7 was less informative and just gave the basics of the story. In this case scenario I believe that my answer was based on an informational stand point and no other way.

Detecting Media Bias

...Detecting Media Bias Nolan Tisdale HUM/111 9/15/2013 James Williams, PhD, DM, CHE Detecting Media Bias The article titled Lawsuit targets Medicaid expansion in Arizona, discusses the latest lawsuit filed by Legislators to targeting the federal Healthcare Reform Law. This article was posted on September 12 2013, on the Fox 10 Phoenix website. The subject of the article is the Lawsuit filed by 36 Republican legislators to target GOP Gov. Jan Brew’s plan to expand Arizona’s health care program. Having a clear understanding that Fox News identifies itself with, and targets the conservative Republican audience, it was very important to take this into consideration when determining the creditability of the story. It was important to observe the author presenting the facts in a clear and accurate manner, and paying extra care to detail. The fact that the author did not leave the facts to interpretation by making vague or over the top statements, leads one to believe that the article was not written in a bias manner. The story was presented in a manner that clearly identified and represented the perspective of all the parties involved in the discussion. The author describes the suit filed by 36 Republican legislators and a pair of citizens, through the Goldwater Institute, and the grounds on which these opponents of the Medicaid expansion plan believe they are filing the suit, while giving equal time and......

Evaluation of Planning

...company used to resolve their problems. The paper will focus on four functions of management and the internal and external factors that will affect management. Toyota needed to evaluate their planning, organizing, leading, and controlling functions. This is the responsibility of management internally. Mechanics, dealerships, and customers, are external factors that also have an interest in Toyota's planning. Once the problem has been fixed, the information is sent to corporate office to determine the success rate. * Toyota Technology Toyota took responsibility of its failure external mechanical systems, and did not ignore a potentially fatal problem. Toyota implemented a strategy control system. This system is designed to assist in evaluating repairs needed in the automobile making process. It then enables Toyota to adjust their strategy based on the discrepancies that exist, thus allowing ample time for corrective action. Toyota has a new sensory detecting device, which can detect when a car is losing control or sense a collision about to take place. The car will alert driver of a potential accident, secure the seatbelt, and decrease the car’s speed to ensure safety (Toyota and Runaway Auto Technology, February 2010). * Toyota Globalization Appropriately, 223,068 vehicles recall in Japan, such a drastic number could tarnish the reputation of the Japanese automaker and that of autoworkers across the world. It Pays, Airline

...Running head: IT PAYS It Pays to Fly Full-Service Rene Gonzalez Jr. Ashford University Managerial Marketing BUS 620 Larry Flegle November 28, 2011 It Pays to Fly Full-Service In this essay I will create a nine-component marketing plan on flying full-service business class with Delta opposed to flying with a discounted low-fare carrier like Southwest. As the economy struggles and air travel becomes more competitive it is not easy to establish the best niche market strategy for an airline. Teplensky defined (as cited in Parrish, Cassill, & Oxenham, 2006) niche market strategy as, "an emphasis on a particular need, geographic, demographic, or product segment" (p. 695). Therefore, it would be ideal for Delta to seek a more specific niche in air travel and differentiate by precisely satisfying customers’ needs; rather than attempting to generalize broad niches that only partly satisfy customers’ needs as a whole. Company Overview/ Description of Location Delta Air Lines Inc. has their corporate headquarters in Atlanta Georgia. However, Delta Air Lines Inc. has a vast worldwide airline system. Delta serves over 160 million customers annually, and offers 356 destinations in 65 countries. Additionally, Delta has over 80 years of passenger service, more than 80,000 employees, and 700 aircraft that spread across six continents. Packed with an array of good services, Delta offers more than 13,000 daily flights, SkyMiles rewards (frequent flier plan)...

Enron Case

...Enron Case 10.8.2014 Melissa Becker Boya Du Sidi (Fiona) Chen Wei (David) Yu In June of 2001 Enron’s new CEO, Jeff Skilling, was heralded as the “No. 1 CEO in the entire country and Enron was saluted as “America’s most innovated company.” Just six months later, in December, Enron filed for bankruptcy. The failure shocked the public and angered investors. How could this have happened? Did no one see this coming? Where were the accountants? Where were the controls? Enron’s public troubles began on October 16th of 2001 when management released a third quarter earnings report with a “mysterious $1.2 billion dollar reduction.” The following month the company restated earnings for the previous five years and erased $600 million in profits. It turned out that the October report began to reveal Enron’s gross abuse of special-purpose entities (SPEs) and the mark-to-market accounting method. The company used SPEs to keep enormous amounts of losses off its books while inflating earnings from supply contracts by booking all profits from a contract in the quarter the deal was made. What also became clear was that Enron did not accomplish their gross manipulations without the help from their accountant’s at Arthur Andersen. Enron shareholders and executives were not the only groups negatively affected by Enron’s aggressive accounting practices. Arthur Andersen was also unraveled because of the role it played in Enron’s materially misstated financial statements. In a letter to...
