Based on the Newsela article “Exotic glass could help unravel mysteries of Mars” by Maria Temming, NASA and the help of the Mars Orbiter has found a glass-like material that may preserve ancient life forms on Mars. This material is called impact glass. This finding was reported by Kevin Cannon and John Mustard from Brown on June 5th in Geology. It is made when an asteroid or meteor hits a planet's surface, the energy from that can melt large amounts of rocks and soil. If the liquid rocks cool fast enough before the atoms can rearrange themselves, the outcome is a dark brownish crystal lattice or impact glass. The problem was that the impact glass gives a weak spectral signal which makes it harder to find. Scientists pick rocks on Mars by

Stripes

...Why do you want to do stripes? I want to do STRIPES because I understand the danger that irresponsible drinking includes. Living on-campus has given me opportunities to meet many new friends, many of which drink irresponsibly regularly. I have heard of many horror stories concerning individuals who are left stranded, are forced to walk long distances in the middle of the night intoxicated, or even those who resort to drunk driving. Considering how many students drink and how many require help after a night of intoxication, a little help can go a long ways. One of the founding pillars of STRIPES is that we are non-judgmental towards our patrons. What does being non-judgmental mean and why do you think this is essential to our organization? Being non-judgmental means that one does not offer judgment or thoughts but rather acts objectively. In the case of STRIPES, it would mean that those involved would merely work to the best of their ability to assist those in need, no questions asked and no judgment given. Helping for the sake of helping those who need it. This is especially essential to STRIPES because they would want all students to be comfortable using the service as it is a representation of safety and trust. Members are expected to volunteer at least five nights per semester. Considering the typical night is from 9 pm to 4am but often runs later, will your schedule allow you to fulfill these basic requirements? Yes, I have no plans to be busy from 9 pm to 4am...

Exotic Animals Are More Than Just Pets

...Davis Mrs. Smith ENGL 1101 15 November 2011 Exotic Animals Are More than Just Pets The exotic animal trade is a growing industry in which exotic animals are bred, sold, and traded in massive amounts. Millions of exotic animals are being kept in private residences, small roadside zoos, and traveling wild animal exhibits. Sadly, beautiful and majestic animals are being held captive in unfortunate living conditions. They are being deprived the enrichment and companionship that they require to develop and flourish effectively as if they were living in the wild. These mistreated animals can be extremely dangerous to human health, the safety of the public, and the animals themselves. Many exotic animal attacks have been front page news; most recently, the release and killing of forty-nine exotic animals in Zanesville, Ohio, was said to be the worst exotic animal incident in United States history. This dangerous incident and those like it need to be thoroughly investigated, and legislation must be improved to avoid future incidents. Stricter laws will ensure exotic animals are being cared for humanely and the public is protected. Common exotic animals that are being purchased for private ownership or entertainment purposes are large game cats, bears, wolves, zebras, reptiles, birds, and nonhuman primates. The genetic anomalies of zedonks, crossbreeding zebras with donkeys, are even being advertised for sale (Green). All of these exotic animals may seem cute and cuddly in zoos and...

My Scaly Neighbor, Friend or Foe?

...Krystina Palka 3/17/2013 Final Draft Review My Scaly Neighbor, Friend or Foe? Has your child come home from school, after learning about reptiles in science class and wants one as a pet? Do you or your significant other, have an interest in a pet a bit more exotic than your average cat or dog? It could be simply that you want to embark on a new adventure as a pet owner. What ever your reason maybe, I Think I may have a solution for you. I highly recommend the Bearded Dragon for any first time exotic pet or reptile owner. I have been the proud owner of three beautiful bearded dragons for the past year. At first I was scared to even pick one of them up. Reptiles are not normal pets to most people, so it can be intimidating and overwhelming at first. After getting to know their temperament and behavior, I soon became comfortable in knowing that they meant no harm to me. I learned to look past their rough textured skin and really paid attention to their demeanor. I quickly went from being the owner of one to three bearded dragons in a matter of months. Bearded dragons make great pets for a number of reasons. They are one of the tamest, friendliest reptiles around, compared to the Iguana, whose temperament is unpredictable and can often be aggressive. Reptile owners will agree that if you are new to reptile ownership, the bearded dragon is the best reptile to start off with because of their friendly disposition, hardiness and gentle nature. Bearded Dragons are...

Exotic Pets

...The Dangers of Exotic Pets Pets can be good companions to humans, but there should be a line that should never be crossed. Exotic animals have become very popular, but they are also dangerous in so many ways. The dangers are not only for the owners of exotic animals, but also for the general public. Disease is also one of the main concerns regarding exotic pets that can affect everyone. Exotic animals are attractive and wonderful creatures, but they are dangerous when people turn them into pets and raise them in captivity for that reason they should never be pets. Exotic animals do not make good pets as they require especial care that cannot be provided when they are raised in captivity. They are wild animals that deserve to be free, and not caged in small cages. Taking care of all the necessities these animals need would be impossible as they are not being raised on their natural habitat, and this is not only cruel but also abusive because it causes stress to the animals. Dr. Jennifer Conrad is the veterinarian that started the paw project, and in her documentary she brings to light the truth about declawing not only exotic cats but domestic cats as well. Declawing cats cripples them for life, and the cats are in constant pain. Dr. Conrad states on her...

Persuasive Essay About Keeping Exotic Animals

...Keeping exotic animals may be interesting or exciting but is not as it seems. Keeping an exotic animal is hard work because you have to make their home as similar as possible to their natural habitat. In addition, you have to feed them more food than what you would normally do to regular pet such as a dog or cat. Also you would have to make sure there is a cage or shelter for the animal to live in. Any way, keeping a dangerous animal as a pet is a bad idea because they can attack you, they are expensive, and last but not least, and are a threat to public safety. Although animals are adorable and fun to have around, exotic animals are the opposite. Keeping an exotic animal in your house means that you have to train them to listen and obey your commands. But what if they don't’ listen and go wild and attack you. If the animal does attack you, at the end you can be seriously injured or maybe even dead. For example, in the article written by “REXANO”, it states that “In the last 10-16 years, 1.5 people on average gets killed by captive...

Time Travel

...Time Travel Jessica Xaypangna Mrs. Pecina Bernal NSC 1 November 28, 2012 Jessica Xaypangna Mrs. Pecina Bernal NSC 1 San Joaquin Valley College November 28, 2012 Time travel is the concept of moving between different points in time in a manner similarly to moving between different points in space. Once thought of as science fiction is now theoretically possible. Reading books, depicted in so many movies, lingering in many minds, can time travel really exist? Whether walking through a portal or spaceship speeding faster than the speed of light, if time traveling is indeed possible it will be considered physics, at a higher level and intelligence at which humans would not be capable of fully understanding for at least a few hundred years. Albert Einstein, Michio Kaku, and many other scientists and physicist alike believed in the expanding of the universe as one that curves on itself in three-dimensions. Through the bending of the universe, it is thought to be some loop holes or shortcuts allowing one to cut or travel through time. Black holes or wormholes are considered to have the power or the ability to do this. Speed has an important role in the rate at which and how we experience time. Time passes more slowly the closer you approach the cosmic speed limit which we call the speed of light. For example, the hands of a clock in a speeding train move more slowly than those of a stationary clock. A human passenger wouldn't feel the difference, but at the end...

Criminal Justice

... I have never put much thought into how glass could be used in the criminal justice field but it plays a very important more than you could believe. In the following paper we will discuss the history of glass, how to locate, collect, identify, and compare samples of glass. The very first glass know to man was called obsidian, which was black volcanic glass; this glass was used to make weapons and decorative objects. Obsidian glass was dated back 3500BC in Egypt and Eastern Mesopotamia. People of the Stone Age used naturally occurring glass which formed when strikes sand lightning and by volcanic eruptions as a result of high temperature when certain types of rocks melt. In the beginning era of glass making the process was very slow and expensive luxury item to have and not many people could afford it. The glass industry was developed in Europe at the end of the 13th century but was was already established in Vince around (A.D. 1096-1270). Parsons Challenge

...For the Parsons Challenge we were asked to look into a subject that is overlooked in our everyday life. When I was thinking about the subject of being “over looked” windows came to mind. A window is a space that you look through, created by a sheet of glass. The glass of a window is a transparent clean surface to allow vision to another space, while not being in it. I thought that windows are overlooked because they are meant to be looked through. So, I focused in on glass and was looking at the windows that I encounter in my daily life. The idea of a window is a clear transparent space to see through. Windows are meant to be kept clean so, it can fulfill its job of being a space to see out of. What made me inspired were the windows of my Jeep Liberty. In the winter, long streaking white stains start to plaster on top of the window surface, obstructing the view through the window. It was an interesting concept for me to realize that windows in reality are not actually clean or perfect. I always thought of windows in an ideal manner. These stains on the window conflicted with what I imagined a window would be,clean and almost unnoticed. These stains changed the space of the window that they laid on. Something that was once overlooked is manipulated to be something to look at. I turned this concept into three pieces of art that, show stains in new way. The stains on the windows are photographed, then traced onto tracing paper, and finally onto a frosted vinyl plastic. On...
