The most distinctive qualities of participant observation are its demand on time and personal cost. When the meaning of cost we are not only talking about the financial obligations nut the personal involvement as well. As we know, the researcher is committed to studying a group for a certain period of time and that could be a disadvantage when it comes to time and cost. There are many types of observations that can be used in collecting data to analyze. In our unit, the example was given when Irwin talks about prisoners as though all of them were victims of an oppressive society.
