The conversation of assimilation into a discourse community has been a long standing presence in academic conversation. Especially if you give the church the title of a discourse community. The church to which I would be referring to is Titus Harvest Dome Spectrum Church. Titus Harvest Dome (THD) is a large religious group (large church) that is located around a suburban area. From what I researched, I have found that the assimilation into Christianity can be related to the social aspects that surround them, as well as in them. Such as, the area the church is located in, or the population that lives there. Daniel Olson states in his research that smaller religious groups find more committed members through leaving and joining the group, compared to larger religious groups. Although Rahsaan Maxwell and Erik Bleich uses Muslims as his topic, presents relatable assimilation reasoning that Muslims who were born in France, was a French citizen, and spoke French would identify themselves as French. These researchers and others that I mention in the Annotated Bibliography, all mention how the social aspects of what surrounds a community has an effect on the process of joining/assimilating into the community, in this case it is the THD community. However, there has not been inquiry on how this would relate to the genres used by larger religious groups …show more content…
I mentioned before that THD uses Announcements and Monthly Prayer Calendars as genres to keep people informed with what is going on, well this is another way for people to stay informed with what is happening. The genre is a better form of news to provide compared to the other two, because it is updated almost every day. The audience is anybody who is a part or outside of THD. It is run by THD, also it serves as a constant reminder of events and activities that are happening with the THD. This improves the social awareness that is needed for a large religious

...computing and compatible devices   Promising research strategies Wedawatta (Wedawata 2011), in his research paper, emphasizes that identifying and following an appropriate research strategy is a critical element in research study as it defines the theoretical underpinning of the research and spans across to data collection and even extending to designing a solution to the identified problems. Wedewatta(Wedawata 2011) further elaborates that a research strategy is one of the components of research methodology. Research strategies provide overall direction of the research including the process by which the research is conducted. Research can either be exploratory or explanatory. Exploratory research is concerned with studying objects in their natural settings thereby letting the findings emerge from observations. Exploratory research is usually supported by qualitative data. Explanatory research is mainly concerned with quantifying the relationship to identify a cause effect relationship. Explanatory research is conducted through controlled experiments and is supported by quantitative data that promotes comparison and statistical analysis. Research strategies will assist in answering research questions that need to be investigated. The research strategy defines whether primary research is carried out or if existing research will be used. The most promising research strategies include: • Surveys • Case Studies • Experiments / Quasi Experiments Surveys Survey research is used...

Project Management in Banks: a Case Study

...A Project Management approach to Service Delivery within the Financial Services Sector; A case study of CAL BANK 1.1 Background The competitiveness of service business is contingent, at least in part, on the design and configuration of quality service delivery and the value proposition inherent in such services (Frei and Harker, 1999; Johnston and Clark, 2005; Verma et al., 2002). Therefore, congruence high level of alignment between a service experience and value for money is crucial for success of all organizations. From this perspective, a study aimed at investigating how project management can be successfully applied to service firms (banks) to lead to quality service delivery for customers is highly justified, as customers are the life blood of any organization. Indeed, several empirical studies suggest that firms achieve higher levels of profitability and performance through successful implementation of project management (PM) (Sauser et al, 2009; Lockett et al, 2008; Chin, 2004; Atkinson et al, 2006; Alleman, 2008; Gallo and Gardiner, 2007; Fernandez and Fernandez, 2009). Moreover, project management has been proven to have the ability to enhance flexibility, remove bureaucracy and also to create room for adaptability (Gomes et al, 2008; Lockett et al, 2008; Lord, 1993). Similarly, the argument for providing quality service has far been advanced by many scholars both in marketing and management circles. For example, Heskett & Sasser, (2010) documents the importance...

Once the writers are lucid about the technique of writing an essay and how to write an essay outline, the next step that they face up to is how to move toward a particular research paper topic. And what type of writing works best? Students often complain about a certain type of essay they have been assigned with. It seems to them that writing within essay type boundaries doesn’t allow them to think out the box, limits their potential. But writing a paper without any directions could be even more confusing than the class assignment you got. Do not think about the limitations as of the prison walls, but as of the walls in your room where you feel free to paint murals or change nothing whatsoever, simply being in control of it, being yourself. Non-Probability Sampling

... but to successfully apply the methods of probability sampling too, seems close to impossible. This essay will look at the sample-problems that this survey faces, and how a non-probability sample can be successfully integrated. Before starting to analyse the survey, I would like to briefly explain what a sample is, and the main differences between the two sampling techniques. First of all the objective of most surveys or research projects is to obtain information about the parameters of a population. To do this a sample is collected representing a subgroup of the population selected for participation in the project. The sample characteristics are used to “make inferences about the population parameters”. (Malhotra, 2010: 370) Meaning that you by selecting a small representation of the population can tell something about the whole population. Non-probability sampling can be defined briefly as “Sampling techniques that do not use chance selection procedures, but rather rely on personal judgement of the researcher” (Malhotra and Birks, 2000, 358) An example of this would be a person who choices people on the street to take part in a survey by using his personal judgement. There are different types of non-probability sampling, the most common are: Convenience -, quota -, snowball - and judgmental - sampling. The convenience sample is the most accessible of the samples,...

Child Care Center Market Research

...Market Research Study for Pre-School venture in Lower Manhattan Introduction The price of private education in Manhattan is exponentially increasing. Over the past 10 years, the median price of first grade in the city has gone up 48%, adjusted for inflation, compared with a 35% increase nationally (NYTimes.com, 1/29/2012). Clearly there is a supply and demand crisis, with more students than seats available. Therefore, our team decided to research the possibility of launching a new pre-school in lower Manhattan. We believe there is a desirable opportunity to open a customized pre-school that serves both our own interests and parents’ current unmet needs. To give some color, below are three recent excerpts concerning the topic: “I think the nursery school admissions process is a war zone. It’s parent against parent, it’s toddler versus toddler… Parents are crazy competitive…It’s about getting in, fitting in, it’s about belonging. That’s why people sweat it.” (Parent from “Nursery University” documentary, 2007) “In an entrepreneurial city where even volatile commodities like real estate eventually find their equilibrium, the desire for private school seats has outpaced supply for many years, in some cases by an order of magnitude. “ (nytimes.com, 2010). “When the public school Pre-K selections were announced, we were denied acceptance to ALL 10 schools…out of 12 friends with kids hoping to enter Pre-K in the Fall of 2011, not ONE of them got in. The intention of the article is two-fold. It explores how nurses perceive fairness in the process of their PA and how the perceptions can affect the effectiveness of PA. Twenty-two participants of nurses from a single department of a public hospital participated in interviews and focus groups held over a period of two months. Qualitative data collected through the interviews and focus groups were taped, transcribed and subsequently interpreted by thematic analysis. The article concluded that injustices were perceived the greatest in procedural justice. Participants felt that there was insufficient notice given to prepare. The article found that employees valued regular communication of expectations and progress prior to PA. The article recommends greater formalization of PA process and adequate training for both the appraiser and employee for a PA process to be...
