Every single one of you get up in the morning, eat, and get dressed. But how many of you actually think about where your food and clothes comes from? Do you think of farmers and clothes designers or how about agriculture in general? There are many different types of jobs that involve agriculture like farming, veterinary, gardener, and teaching. Everyone has heard about all of these kinds of agriculture jobs but the one that people forget about is agriculture teachers. There are over 20,000 agriculture teachers just in the United States, and thats not even counting the ones that are also FFA advisors. (FFA.org) Although agriculture teachers have a very tight and demanding schedule that they have to work with throughout the year, they have a really exciting career because of the history of the job and what they do, the …show more content…
Agriculture Education started around the 19th century and started to rapidly grow from there out. In 1862, the United States Congress created the Department of Agriculture to gather and distribute agricultural information. (FFA.org ) A law by the name of The Smith-Hughes Act was established in 1917 was an act of the United States Congress that promoted vocational agriculture to train people "who have entered upon or who are preparing to enter upon the work of the farm," and provided federal funds for this purpose. (FFA.org) From there on the amount of Agriculture teachers grew enormously. Then in 1969 The amount of kids that were in an Agriculture program grew because girls were allowed to join the agriculture program. After women were allowed to be in FFA the amount Agriculture Teachers grow because then more people were interested in agriculture and women could be in agriculture and become an agriculture teacher. Today there are over 20.000 men and women Agriculture teachers and their are even more men and women that are FFA advisors along with being an Agricultural Educator.
