...Internet Use among Central Luzon State University Students Thelma T.Dancel Carlota Villaroman Angelie D. Maningas Nico F.Ace Salas BSBA1-1 First Semester Academic Year 2009 - 2010 One of the technologies dominating the computer industry today is Internet technology. The Internet, also called the Information Superhighway, is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standardized Internet Protocol Suite. It carries a vast array of information resources and services and the infrastructure to support electronic mail, online chat, file transfer and file sharing, online gaming, and person-to-person communication via voice and video. The origins of the Internet reach back to the 1960s when the United States funded research projects of its military agencies to build robust, fault-tolerant and distributed computer networks. On 6 August 1991, CERN, a pan European organization for particle research, publicized the new World Wide Web project. The Web was invented by English scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. It was eventually replaced in popularity by the Mosaic web browser. By 1996 usage of the word Internet had become commonplace, and consequently, so had its use as a synecdoche in reference to the World Wide Web. (Wikipedia.com, 2009) As of 2009, an estimated quarter of Earth's population uses the services of the Internet. During the 1990s, it was estimated that......

Prevalence and Factors Associated with Alcoholism Among College Student of Samar State University

...primary psychosocial factors that predict problem drinking among college students. Variables examined included demographic variables, personality, drinking history, alcohol expectancies, drinking motives, stress and coping, activity involvement, and peer and family influence. Evidence from studies of college drinking indicated that the variables associated with college drinking seem to vary at levels dealing with one’s personality and coping mechanisms, one’s thought processes about drinking, and the environment. (Isohanni, M., Oja, H., Moilanen, I., &Koiranen, M. (1994)) Alcohol and caffeine are the two substances that are most widely abused in the world. Alcoholism affects 10% -20% of men and 3%-10% of women. Most of the industrial and road accidents are result of chronic alcoholism. It also contributes to domestic abuse and child abuse in majority cases. Most of the alcoholic drinkers start off as a social drinker and may be knowingly or unknowingly, get indulged into the habit of chronic alcoholism. Tolerance to alcohol varies widely among individuals but it increases as drinking gets heavier and then this becomes a very serious issue for the individual (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, NIAAA 2004). According to World Health Organization (WHO) 2010, worldwide alcohol causes 1.8 million deaths (3.2% of total) and 58.3 million (4% of total) of Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) among students. Injuries alone account for about one third of the......

Poverty in Philippines Among the College Student

...Poverty in the Philippines: Causes, Constraints, and Opportunities comprehensively analyzes the causes of poverty and recommends ways to accelerate poverty reduction and achieve more inclusive growth. The report provides an overview of current government responses, strategies, and achievements in the fight against poverty and identifies and prioritizes future needs and interventions. The analysis is based on current literature and the latest available data, including the 2006 Family Income and Expenditure Survey. Other cause The incomplete land reform aiming at overthrowing the traditionally unequal agrarian society coupled with lack of support for farmers has been a long-lasting flaw in the governments’ development policies that can still massively reduce poverty in the Philippines. Thus, the role of the state remains central to redistribute more equally the wealth created in the country, in order to avoid leaving the poor behind. Supporting the extremely poor must be seen as a long-term investment and counterbalanced with future gains. However, mistrust in the government combined with corruption and/or incompetence makes the overall task much harder, even though it has led to the rise of militant movements that speak in favor of farmers to build fairer trade systems. In a strange way, another problem for the Philippines is that, in spite of having embraced liberalization and international organizations’ rules, they have now ended up less integrated in the world economy...
