Research Paper Article Psych

...IQ And Mathematical Learning In the article Motivation, Not IQ, Matters Most for Learning New Math Skills, psychologists study math abilities and habits of thirty-five hundred German students from the fifth to tenth grade. Students’ mathematical abilities were evaluated each year using standardized testing. In addition to this students were given an IQ test and surveys that questioned about their attitudes toward math. As the title of this report suggests they found that IQ was not the main determining factor in how well the student’s math abilities grew. Instead IQ was found to be a predictor of initial math skill and studying and motivation where found to be predictors of growth in mathematical abilities. These findings came as a surprise to the researchers who predicted that intelligence measured by IQ would be a strong predictor of mathematical abilities. This article encompasses the main findings of the researchers into a summarization of their findings. This research in this study is credible and believable but the article leaves out some essential information about the findings that could strengthen or weaken the researcher’s argument and allow the reader to develop their own opinion. In this study the independent variable is the student’s IQ and the dependent variable is the student’s mathematical scores/abilities. IQ tests have long been used as a system to measure the intelligence of the testee. Standardized mathematical testing is an accurate method of......

The Study on the Factors

...(BSAT) is a program that prepares students for a career in the accounting and finance divisions of organizations in the private and public sectors. The accounting courses in the program, combined with business management courses, equip students with the needed skills, proficiency, and intellectual abilities to lead successful careers. But, unlike Accountancy, BSAT is a non-board course. However, the graduates of the said program can take the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Examination for license. This study aims to determine the reasons and causes why BSA students end up getting BSAT degree instead of Accountancy degree. We, researchers, will investigate on the factors affecting the students focus in studying. We will be conducting survey in the form of questionnaires and interviews with 3rd year and 4th year BSAT students of Araullo University – Phinma Education Network. There are many factors that affect a BSA student to fail: his abilities, his interest in the course, the teaching method, the classroom, lack of personal direction, pressure from parents or peers, laziness, lack of confidence, family or relationship problems. Another factor that is going to be stressed out in our study is the retention policy being imposed in the accountancy program. It will be explained here how this policy affect each and every BSA student; what improvements can be done to maximize its use and be an effective tool in producing quality students. Spirituality and Trauma

...of victims of emotional trauma particularly in disaster mental health studies. In this paper the value of spirituality in providing emotional care to survivors of trauma is analyzed. Why is the value of spirituality in emotional care important to me? Conventional wisdom has held to the notion that boys are better at math than girls. Perhaps, this age old belief was responsible for Mattel the company that produced “Teen talk Barbie” in 1992 to create a Barbie doll that had among its stored phrases, one phrase that said, “Math class is tough!”. This phrase was stored with 270 other girl talk phrases such as “I love shopping” and “Will we have enough clothes!”. The result was that Mattel was soundly criticized and quickly changed the doll’s offending phrase a few months later. In spite of Mattel’s effort to correct a message that verbalized an inherent cultural bias, one wonders if the is any accuracy to the stereotype that associate math being difficult with the female gender and whether math is less difficult for males. Bryner (2007) indicated that women are still outnumbered by men in math science and engineering fields. Tachibana (2010) posited that as much as 90 percent of the engineers in the United States are male. Mathematics is considered a gateway such to the hard sciences....
