Factors and Credibility Dq

I would believe that a true newspaper (New York Times, not The Enquirer) is very credible, they write an article and stand by it, reporters with false facts usually get fired or punished. With a magazine I would have to go fifty-fifty on the credibility. Depends on the magazine. If you are looking at People vs. American History, I would believe American History because the material is backed by research and professors’ of that study. Watching Tv would depend on the program; the Discovery Channel I do think is a credible source. They only show true facts, which are researched, if facts they have given are not completely accurate, they take the responsibility and show the show again with the corrective information. When you have a movie the producers go for ratings not for what the true facts are. They might have true facts mixed around with in the plot of the story but sometimes it is hard to take a part of a movie but nothing else. I believe news reporting to be a credible source because their materials are usually well researched. I would not believe most the internet unless you do full background on the paper and site where you have found the paper. People use the internet to say what they want to say most of the time it is not facts. Most the advertising you see around is just to get your attention. I do not think this is a very creditable source at all.

Qualitative and Quantitative Research

...Qualitative and Quantitative Research- Module 2 DQ 1 Quantitative research is a process in which data is gathered systematically, analyzed and reported in numerical and statistical values in an attempt to explain what has been observed or hypothesis. The researcher is clearly aware of the specific information being sought prior to the initiation of the study and a data collection adheres to a specific, rigid framework. This system of research uses large groups for data collection and utilizes questionnaires, experimentation or other tools for this purpose depending on the subject being studied. This type of research is more accurate in the absence of variables with statistical outliers frequently discarded. The advantage of quantitative research is precise measurements from a large data bank. Data can be collected from many participants in a short amount of time and collated. A disadvantage to this that questionnaires for this type of research are often closed with only a few answer options from which to choose. Qualitative research is focused on subjective information. The interviewer is the primary tool for information collection however data can also be collected with other methods such as observation and questionnaires with open ended questions. This type of research utilizes a smaller population than that of quantitative research and can include focus groups as well as 1:1 interviews. The information obtained in this type of research often addresses the why...

Discuss the Relationship Between Persuasion and Attitude Change

...advertisements particularly on a daily basis; from the television to magazines. To explain the psychology of persuasion there are various models; the Hovland-Yale model and the elaboration likelihood model. The Hovland-Yale model states that there several factors that will affect how likely a change of attitude through persuasion is, after all behavioural change cannot occur without attitude change also having taken place. The three most prominent factors are the source, the message and the audience. Hovland et al found that source characteristics played an important role in determining the persuasive nature of any communication. The theory states that people more likely to be persuaded when a source presents itself as credible. For example, people were more likely to be persuaded when hearing the information from an expert. This was supported by Bochner and Insko study, where they found that people were more likely to trust a sleep expert than a non-sleep expert, on matters surrounding sleep. The creditable sources were more influencing towards the audience, where with the non-expert source the audience tried to find ways of discrediting the communicator. The Hovland-Yale model says the content of the message is an important factor. When trying to persuade a person, we may look at both sides of the argument, the positive and the negative effects. Research on one-sided and two-sided messages found that two-sided messages influence attitudes more than one-sided messages to those...

Parental Substance Abuse

...Parental Substance Misuse: An Exploration of the Impact of Substance Abuse on Children 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Background and Problem Definition It is beyond debаte thаt the use or misuse of substаnce hаs severe impаct on the well being of children. The term substаnce refers to both the illicit аnd non illicit forms of drugs. The use of substаnce by а pаrent becomes misuse when the pаrent in question uses it to the level where the usаge becomes hаzаrdous for both the behаviour аnd heаlth of the pаrent аs well аs the life of the children involved. The hаrmful behаviour in the pаrent hinders the pаrent’s аbility to tаke good cаre of their children which is the children’s fundаmentаl right (Forrester 2011, p. 4). The pаrentаl substаnce misuse hаs physicаl, behаviourаl, sociаl аnd emotionаl or mentаl consequences for the children. The processes and outcomes are evaluated with respect to the effectiveness of service learning as an educational means and the contribution to the nonprofit sector made by service learning initiatives. The findings include the benefit of the initial ambiguity of the service learning project and the benefit of the project outputs to the nonprofit agency. It is concluded that researchers may need to figure out the absolute relationship between initial ambiguity and the effectiveness of a service learning project and that between project outputs and the benefits received by the organization concerned. It is also concluded that researchers need to study how to keep participants’ passion towards the nonprofit sector after completion of...
