Fallsburg Teachers Association: Case Study

The Fallsburg Teachers Association is passionate in our support for the significant task of representing the teachers of the Fallsburg School District. We believe that the agreement in place has caused our members to be deeply dissatisfied with their wages, health benefits and teacher rights. It is threatened by an operating budget and now that the economy is improving, we welcome the opportunity for change.
We are here as members in the community and also as the representatives for the Fallsburg Teachers Association. Teachers in the Fallsburg School District are being paid less than other teachers in the state of Oregon. There has been no pay increases in the past 5 years and health care costs will increase from 33% to 40% by next year. We …show more content…
Therefore these are the issues our members are unhappy about:
1. They seek to be compensated fairly, which has not happened for a long time (5 years). They are being underpaid and they seek fairness in their wages.
2. A desire for an increase in health benefits is imperative. A way must be found to achieve this.
3. Compensation for advanced education is something that cannot be ignored, the current system has flaws and we need them addressed.
4. Leaves of absence were denied 3 times in the last two years, and we must move forward with the times. A change in our policies concerning leaves of absence must be changed. Same-sex partners deserve the same rights as our other members.
5. We request that our teachers get a sabbatical policy in place. Other school districts in the Oregon area have one and it is proven to increase productivity in the classroom and decrease turnover.
6. Teachers are being criticized in public for insignificant reasons. Teachers are now stepping forward and plea that their morale be respected and want administrators or personnel to be sanctioned for their actions in regards to them being publically
